This place only serves Japanese people. We went there at 1:30pm (an hour and a half before their stated closing) and saw a crowd of (Japanese) people being served. A staff member told me that they were closed, but then proceeded to seat a Japanese couple that arrived after us. I understand that all businesses have a right to serve whoever they choose, but keep in mind that non-Japanese customers are treated as second class here. Beware.

Super delicious and unique restaurant. It’s close to the bamboo forest. I would highly recommend stopping here for lunch. It’s along a river with a fantastic view. Staff was very friendly.

Amazing traditional Japanese restaurant right on the river. We were seated on the second floor on tatami mats and had a wonderful meal with great service. Our vegan friends were very happy with their food though some of the Tofu set dishes included shellfish. Wait on a Saturday was about 40 minutes, not unreasonable considering the substantial crowds and 2 hour waits at other restaurants.

A little off the beaten track. It’s not a place u chance upon if u are just walking and hunting for food when hungry. The places near the bridge are Super crowded and if u venture all the way in, down a slight ramp onto the riverside stone path, u will see this place. Very home style, no frills food. Upstairs is tatami seating and a direct view of the river. No crowds. Food portions are large and the taste is ok. Just like what your grandma may cook at home. Cash only. No card

Highly recommend this restaurant. They provide traditional Japanese home-style food, nice presentation and really tasty. The location also great where located at the starting point of the Arashiyama Park observation deck. Also, another route to bamboo forest.

Came here for lunch at around noon, we chose to sit outside to enjoy the view while we ate. We ordered the oyakodon and tofu teishoku. Everything tasted amazing and fresh, they gave us fruits and mochi for dessert as part of the teishoku. Highly recommend! Also met a very cute dog outside 🐶

Super good view! You can enjoy Japanese homemade cooking while watching people row. We got the: Curry udon Chicken soup with udon Marinated fish Everything was quite tasty! Downside was that the udon noodles were too soft, but everything else was good! Extremely affordable in Japanese standards. You can get a udon or a chicken-egg don for like 600yen. Highly recommend for people walking around this area!

Unbelievably tasty food in incredible surroundings. Well priced with a meal costing approximately ¥700 per person. I had the tempura udon which was delicately battered, beautifully cooked with a crisp outside and soft broth infused inner and my wife had the beef curry udon which was wonderfully fruity with mushrooms and generous amount of tender beef. I very highly recommend trying this place and is a great lunch stop after exploring the bamboo forest which is in walking distance.

Wow. Unexpectedly this was the best meal we had during our whole stay in Japan. Food was delicious, portions generous, flavors on point, quality exceptional. Topped off with a gorgeous view of the river, this restaurant is a true gem!

Very “homey” meal with an awesome view! Walk past all the tourist traps and come straight here. The tempura and the oden was so delicious. I’m so glad I found this hidden gem tucked away. Definitely an exquisite lunch. Very cheap as well. Highly recommend!

This is a great spot for lunch after the bamboo grove. The riverside is beautiful, with ton of activities going on. The food is ok, but I liked it because of the atmosphere.

We went there for lunch when we visited Arashiyama during Autumn season. The staffs were really friendly and welcoming. We have ordered Oden, Niku Udon, and Tanindonburi, all 3 approx. 2300 yen. Food were fast, delicious and affordable. The view of the lake was amazing as well. Definitely our to go place when we visit Arashiyama again.

Japanese restaurant by the river, I fully enjoyed food and nature at the same time. Waiting for 30 mins to get a table, absolutely worth it. It would be one of the best choices for lunch after a morning walking around Arashiyama and Okochi Sanso Food was great and served quickly. I will come back again in autumn when the Japanese 🍁 momiji turns red.

Beautiful tofu set which is very cheap considering the surrounding prices (tofu set was 1200 yen). The restaurant is next to a beautiful river with table seating on the ground floor and tatami mat seating on the second floor. Service was fast and food was delicious. Their tofu is homemade (picture provided is of tofu set with chicken/egg bowl next to it). Be sure to come 10-15 mins before opening and put your name down, as it gets busy.

Best place to have a nice, peaceful meal in nature. Place was very popular but nothing felt rushed. Highly recommended! Remember to write your name on the paper due to its popularity.

The food was perfectly balanced, priced well, cooked fast. The staff were adorable and kind. Locals visit the place so you can have a pleasant conversation with them. Friendly to foreigners. Isolated from the crowded streets with a gorgeous view and sense of tranquility.
