We had such a wonderful experience staying at this ryokan!!! We booked a 2 night stay in the japanese style room which included breakfast and dinner. Check-in was quick and easy. After checking in, there are colorful yukatas for women to choose from to wear during the stay. There are additional yukatas available in the room. Our room had a small jacuzzi, and a balcony with mountain view. The room was kept impressively clean. Staff serves breakfast and dinner in the room and helped us setup and put away the futons. Food was very well crafted, visually it was beautiful and tasted delicious. Dinner menu consists mainly of seafood and beef. Staffs are so pleasant to interact with and they provide such exceptional service. There are 2 hot spring baths available. One is a large rectangular pool/bath with a small bath in a glass room. The room has glass walls that look out into the bamboo forest. The 2nd bath is a natural stone bath. There are 1 large and 2 small round baths at the womens' side. They are both separated by gender. Each gender has their own respective hot spring rooms. There are staff onsite and the hot spring bath is cleaned daily. The womens dressing room is also very clean and spacious. There are iced/hot water and tea available in the rest areas. The ryokan is located on top of a hill. It's roughly about a 7min walk up/downhill to the arimaonsen station. They do provide shuttle bus for pickup and drop offs at arimaonsen station. This is a great place for some quiet relaxing time, away from the city. This is by far, my favorite traditional japanese experience in japan.

We utilised the hotel shuttle as a little out of the way from the station. The lodge was almost completely wooden, 2 floors. beautiful landscaping. Our host for the evening meals is an amazingly friendly chap. "More bread?", he always asks. Made us laugh so much.

There are two public onsens in the basement of the multi-floor hotel. Men and women are entirely separated, and though you may be able to shout and be heard, mostly you won’t see your husband/wife if you go together. One of the onsens is located outdoors, which is great if you like the refreshing cool air. You can also stay indoors and stare outside through windows. I think they advertise this as the ‘outdoor’ onsen. The downside of this one is that it feels a bit artificial: it’s all tiled and rectangular like a swimming pool. The second one is the original (I think), as it’s located in what feels like a grotto/cave. The pools feel far more real… you climb over watermelon-sized rocks to get into misshappen hot springs. The walls stretch skyward and have plants growing out of them. It’s very nice. Oh yeah, there’s also a hotel. I mean - the rooms are absolutely massive. We stayed in a Japanese-style one, and it was the first time we slept in Tatamis. Fell in love with them; so comfortable! Along with in-room dining and a pair of chairs situated beside the balcony to look out at the incredible view, we didn’t even bother exploring the rest of the compound. We walked here, but there’s a shuttle service that you can call when you arrive at the Arimaonsen train station. It’s just a 10 minute walk, but it is all uphill, so it might be a lot if you’re not used to it. You go through some nice bamboo forests though so I thought it was a great way to arrive. I wished we stayed longer!

The room is too old and dark. I paid over 35000yen/person but have bad experience. The room and the dinner are poor. I won’t stay again and don’t recommend this hotel to others.

We are quite disappointed as your staff arrange the rooms so far away from the reception and the rooms are very dark and old. We feel really not comfortable when we go to our rooms. Somethings are destroyed like the air conditioner is not work as well. We think that it is not worthy to stay here in so high price. The dinner is also not good enough as nothing special. It is not worth to stay here in so expensive. Rooms are different from the photo shown in website.

Arima Onsen Motoyu Kosenkaku Hotel is located halfway up the mountain. It can be reached by driving through a winding mountain road. There are two hot springs in Motoyu Kosenkaku, namely Hakkado and Iwafuryo. The environment of the hot spring house is quiet and pleasant, and tourists who stay here can relax and enjoy themselves. Enjoy the fun of bathing.

Great place to stay at, lodge cabins were well equipped and comfortable, hotsprings weren't crowded and had a good view. Only suprise was the booking website had said they offered traditional Japanese cuisine, however they served western cuisine in Japanese style. This was still great, but a little misleading. Therefore, I would still recommend staying here!

Location feels like one of the further hotels from the station. Had to climb up a hill to get to the location which was very challenging when you are tugging your luggage bags along. Other than that the staffs are super friendly and the onsen was nice. During peak check out hours, the wait for the shuttle was estimated to be 30 mins. So we had to slowly roll our luggage back down the hill. Which took only 10 mins.

Stayed here for one night to enjoy the Arima onsen in the middle of our trip around the Osaka region. It's located up a hill and the hotel provides a shuttle to ferry us back and forth as we explore the tiny village, which essentially goes to sleep after 6pm as the sun goes down. The staff is very professional and courteous. I still apologize for accidentally kicking their pile of guest slippers in the lobby, and they were nice about it. After check in, the staff walks you to your room and explain the procedures on how to use the onsen, and provides kimono/yukata for you to wear to the onsen and instructions on how to wear it. The room is very comfortable and has a jacuzzi if you are shy about using the onsen. The view of the forest behind the building out the balcony is magnificent - unless you have the far left corner room, in which case you are treated to the greatest view of the parking lot. There is also a souvenir store in the lobby. Between this and the village itself, there were plenty of knick knacks for gifts and they are not unreasonable prices (~500 yen for a box of onsen themed cookies for example) - even the Arima train station itself has a tiny store selling items for that onsen spirit anime for Arima. It was a great experience coming here on our trip and I highly recommend it.

Having stayed in lodge with family of 4, I was totally satisfied with the high quality of service, and serene atmosphere of the resort. The resort was not crowded, very calm and definitely the best place to take a rest. The staffs were very hospitable, amicable, and english proficient. Not only high quality of central hot spring, the spa which is inside of the lodge was also very good. For foreign Arima onsen travellers, Kosenkaku would be the best resort to stay!

A perfect ryokan with onsen. I booked this place via Booking.com. The review is quite positive and most importantly, this ryokan has its own onsen!! Arima is quite famous for onsen, thus, there are public onsens within the area. But having own onsen (not private onsen at room, public within this ryokan) is a great advantage. I travelled with my brother-in-law and he was suffering with the hand eczema for years. I don't know if the muddy spring helped him but his hands were cured (temporarily for few months after this trip) after bathing in the muddy (and salty) spring here!!! Enjoyable: 5/5 Design: 5/5 Staffs: 5/5 Room service (Kaiseki dinner) looks expensive comparing with other dining options around this area. But worth trying if you wish to try an authentic Japanese cuisine.

Pros: Service is really great. The hot springs are nice and clean. Toiletries are provided. The dinner and breakfast are excellent. Cons: Maybe a little pricy but worth trying.

This is our first time staying at a ryokan! What a wonderful experience! We stayed at a Japanese style room. It’s big enough for 4 adults. It has a sunroom and balcony overlooking the mountain. The bathroom is in decent size, has both jacuzzi and shower area with a large window overlooking the mountain as well. The room is a bit old, has some stain on the carpet in the sun room area but other than that overall the room is clean, cozy & quiet. Location is perfect, up in the mountain, yet just a short walk to the old streets with street snacks, restaurants and shops. We got to see the hot springs source. Pretty cool! By the way, Kosenkaku is one of the few ryokans with its own hot springs source. We stayed there for one night but we were able to visit the baths 3 times. We were surprised that all 3 times that we visited, there were only a few people there. Nice and quiet! We could really relax and enjoy the bath! Sometime, it was only me taking up the whole pool. Best onsen experience! Not to mention they have 2 different bath houses with both golden spring and silver spring, both indoor and outdoor. Also has sauna. The temperature of the springs is very comfortable. We all love it! As for the meals, we had both the kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast served in room. Quality and presentation of the food is impressive! Everything tastes very good! We are all very satisfied with food! Wish we could stay for another night!
