Wonderful church which was built to accommodate the huge number of visitors that make the journey here to be near the famous statue of Christ! Look at the very modest size of the original chapel of less than 10 square meters size! The large chapel in the meadow now can seat hundreds of worshipers and draws thousands of visitors each year! The beauty and scale of the Pilgrimage Church of Wies brings a perspective to a person of how mighty God and Christ are while having such compassion for anyone who stands in the presence of such glory!

The Pilgrimage Church of Wies (Wieskirche) was designed in the late 1740s by brothers Zimmermann. It is located in the foothills of the Alps, in Steingaden in Bavaria. Since 1983 it is under the protection of UNESCO because of its outstanding rococo architecture. It is not very large, but it’s interior is superb!

There’s a reason y this church is a unesco world heritage site. This Rocco style church is so intricately designed that even after a few church viewing/tours, it never fails to awe me. A pro tip, do remember to stand in the middle of the church and look directly up. It’s like a painted picture book right out of the ages.

the Pilgrimage Church of Wies, or Wieskirche in German, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a stunning example of Rococo architecture. It's located in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, near the village of Wies in southwestern Germany. The church was built in the mid-18th century as a result of a miraculous event that reportedly took place there. The interior of the church is decorated with elaborate stucco work and frescoes, and it features a magnificent altar and pulpit. The Pilgrimage Church of Wies is known for its unique and harmonious design, which blends Rococo and Baroque styles to create a truly breathtaking space. It's also famous for its excellent acoustics, making it a popular venue for classical music concerts and performances. Visitors to the church can take guided tours or explore the space on their own. It's a popular pilgrimage site, particularly during the summer months, and attracts visitors from all over the world. If you're interested in art, architecture, or religious history, the Pilgrimage Church of Wies is definitely worth a visit.

You can’t help feeling closer to the Lord just walking into the beautiful church. Everyone was so respectful and felt at awe looking at all the detailed pictures and statues. I even gave my euros to light a candle to bless my family.

Church in the middle of nowhere. Nothing special to see from from the outside. But WOW! What a treasure of surprises inside. The artwork is spectacular. Intricate and delicate from floor to ceiling. Don't pass it by. You won't be disappointed

The peaceful pastural setting of this sweet church is deceiving. Simple on the outside, it holds an abundance of riches inside!!! As we were leaving, a family was just coming in. The man made an audible gasp as he took in the gorgeous interior! One of the highlights of this trip for me! DON'T MISS THIS!!!

Beautiful church and the pictures don't quite do it justice. However it's probably only a few minutes stop on its own, with a few restaurants and souvenir shops outside. When I went on a weekday there were still tons of tourist issues visiting. Given its location I wouldn't bother trying to visit unless by car as part of a longer trip around the area. The surrounding countryside and trails were beautiful so it would also be a great place to hike or cycle.

A church in the middle of nowhere that had mystical appearance centuries ago and has now become a Catholic Church of pilgrimage. Nothing to boast from the outside but beautiful frescoes and statues within.

Must visit church, if you felt like the outside was beautiful then the inside is out of this world! Definitely can spend hours looking at every detail put inside the church. Make sure to leave a donation! They have candles and blessed Virgin Mary charm to take home after donation.

This church is so beautiful. There are carving in the pew rails dating back to the 1800's. The art wood is beautiful. A must see on the Edelweiss tour.

Beautiful church, in very quiet place surrounded with beautiful scenery. Gift shops are also available, and the service is done accordingly. Sometimes, they have small orchestra playing lovely music. Worth to visit

Nature, a church in the field, in the middle of nowhere. You open the door and fall into a rococo fairy tale, the eyes and the mind cannot take in all this beauty

A hidden gem! We were tipped off by another tour guide that we should check it out, and they were right... we took some little back road to get there and came upon it and were surprised. But, it's even more amazing inside!

Wonderful church located within a beautiful landscape. Do make sure to visit it during open hours as the inside is very beautiful. We, unfortunately, visited fairly late, and the weather wasn't favorable, so everything was dark, but it was still very beautiful.

This church is a great example of Bavarian Baroque. It was built in the early seventeen hundreds. It houses the Scourged Savior statue which over the years has cured people who have made a pilgrimage and prayed for Christ's healing powers.

This church literally is in the middle of nowhere. After taking off the highway, it took us another 15-20 minutes on a narrow curvy countryside road, suddenly the massive church came insight. It was beautiful with white and gold sculptures. The ceiling paintings were captivating. But it was so dark inside the church. It’s so hard to get clear view on either the sculptures or the ceiling. I wish it could have turned the lights on to make visitors enjoy its beauty more.

Absolutely beautiful "little" church a little off the beaten path, but definitely recommend it if you have a moment to stop off and visit

Beautiful church in a wonderful setting. You can get lost in the ceiling. Central to the church is a statue of the scourged Jesus. Originally in the small chapel in front it became pilgrimage site after the statue began to weep and miracles we credited to it. The current church was commissioned to accommodate the statue and pilgrims.

We had a quick visit here on our way to Reutte, as part of a 10 day tour of Austria, Oberammergau and Lake Garda. It is fair to say no-one in our group knew about this church but my goodness what a find. It is jaw-droppingly magnificent! When you consider this is in a small village, fairly isolated, it certainly brings home the faith of the congregation who built this. Definitely worth a stop.

Beautiful building. Care spent in maintaining gravesites in cemetery is commendable.
