On the one hand scary, on the other hand very impressive. This Grim Reaper has probably become the symbol of Cologne's Melatenfriedhof.

Given the current summer temperatures, the Melatenfriedhof is a pleasantly quiet and cool place with plenty of shade and seating. Many famous personalities are buried here. There are many figures and one of them is the imposing sandstone figure of the Grim Reaper. Worth seeing.

The Grim Reaper is the symbol of the Melatenfriedhof. The figure was created by the well-known sculptor August Schmiemann. The Grim Reaper symbolizes the transience of life. I can't imagine a better place for the character. A visit is really highly recommended. Pay attention to the great details of the Grim Reaper. The figure carries a scythe and an hourglass.

On a tour of the Melatenfriedhof, the landmark is just as much a part of it as looking at the graves of well-known personalities.

A particularly impressive old cemetery. Wonderful tombs and nice for a quiet walk.

Picturesquely morbid, with an integrated creepy factor: currently equipped with a brand new scythe. "Don't turn around, the Grim Reaper is walking around...". Naturally, in this place we are reminded of our own finiteness!

Anyone who takes the time to walk around the cemetery should definitely stop here. In the corner there are many graves worth seeing, especially of course the Grim Reaper.

The Melaten in Cologne is definitely worth a visit. This cemetery is unbelievable in the middle of Cologne. Unfortunately we found out too late that there are also guided tours. Maybe next time.

The Grim Reaper, or rather the reaper (Sensenmann), is considered a symbol of the Melaten Cemetery. The statue is realistic, it looks like it is about to come to life. There is a child's grave next to the sculpture, which enhances the impression.
