Avoid by all means. This hotel does not care about the safety of its guests! I am writing this review as a last resort. I have given the hotel management ample opportunity and time to respond to my complaint. No answer was received, which shows what kind of service to expect when booking this hotel. I, and my friend Miss [name private] were in rooms 614 and 617 of this hotel from 19-22 August 2022 and we are deeply unhappy with the lack of care for its guests. On the night of August 19 to 20, past midnight, we checked in and were given the key to room no 607 which, at the time, was already occupied by [name private]. We opened the door and woke them up, giving them a massive shock! We apologised to them and left immediately. The incident left us deeply concerned about your hotel's security system, which doesn't work. We retrieved keys for two single rooms from the reception as no more double bedrooms were available. The service at the reception was not professional. I believe that staff has received no training to deal with such a situation. They didn't even see the need to apologise until I pointed out that an apology was the least they could do. Furthermore, they did not provide me with the contact details of the manager that I had requested and were not able to provide information about the official complaint procedure of the hotel. All I was given was an email address, which I emailed. No answer was received. The incident left us deeply distressed. We did not feel safe in the rooms allocated and had problems sleeping at night, thinking someone might intrude at any second. Nobody from the hotel followed up with us during the stay. We did not receive any official apology for what had happened. Therefore, we request a material compensation of 50% of our price. We believe that this is fair in light of the utter distress that the hotel caused.

They trick you by offering a lower price and once you get there they try to charge €3.5 for bed linen. Smelly room. No curtain for privacy on beds. The only positives are the nice lobby and the bathroom/shower being inside the room. Generally I would avoid, unless you don't have other options.

One of the better hostels I've stayed at. It's still a hostel and not a fancy hotel. People still dress up with as little self-respect as in airports. But this hostel is relatively clean. Breakfast hits the spot too, with a nice breakfast area.

Since last year it has improved a great deal because it is more clean. However , sitting in a lobby always feels like sitting in ashtray. I think its a BIG mistake to place the ashtray directly at the main entrance. This is why people always smoking there and because of the way the lobby is built the smoke goes directly in. Non stop cigarette smoke all hours of the day - unhealthy and disgusting.

Broken light, broken charging option, had to pay extra for new and washed linen, ugly rooms.. Only good thing is the Wifi and even that wasn't the best in my room

The stay was good, it's a nice hostel with a good location with cheap rates. The only thing which trouble was the poor ventilation system in the rooms. Things to consider when travelling in summer.

Not recommended. We stayed in a double room here from 12.25 to 12.30, but no one has come to clean up our room in the past five days! Sheets, quilt covers and towels have never been replaced.!We told the service that this matter was still not solved. Breakfast fruits and yoghurt are easy to be empty, but no one will replenish them. The sound of the corridor and upstairs will be heard at night.

I had a 1 month stay and everything was perfect. The hotel is affordable, has daily cleaning services, and a very nice living area. The neighborhood is pretty central and safe. Train stop is just in front, bus stops pretty close. Staff very supportive. So far, perfect.

Stayed for 2 nights. The staff are the best. Rogers was on the bar and he is a delight. He is very friendly and makes the best cocktails. The lobby is spacious with a lot of games and a great seating area. Also met Aleksandra on the reception, she was very kind and patient and helped everyone with questions etc. we had a twin room and it was clean, so was the linen and the bed was nicely made. We really enjoyed our stay, most importantly the bar and the delicious cocktails from Roger!

Worst hospitality I have seen in a while! Although I am certain 95% there were free beds, I only received one after 15! If you will need to pee , think again, you can only enter the bathroom with the card you use at the door ! My thoughts: don't recommend it

I stayed in the female dorm & it was so dirty and messy. The shower & toilet was inside the room, very near to the beds which made the already smelly room even more disgusting. Both were extremely small, you can barely move in the shower area. There was no ventilation in the room/toilet despite a pandemic. I had to pay extra for the bedsheets & put it on myself. The bed frame had dust on it.There was a tv which two of the beds had no view of.The building has no security & literally anyone can walk right in. Honestly just pay a little extra & stay somewhere nicer.

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights, upon arrival the room was dirty, there was dust everywhere. Breakfast costs 9.30 euros, consists of boiled eggs, tasteless pancakes, low-quality sausage. Tasteless coffee. Unfriendly staff NO SMART TV, VERY DISAPPOINTING Beautiful lobby Around 10 pm I ordered Margherita pizza, very tasteless It was warm in the room, plus Noisy neighbors, poor sound insulation

NOT RECOMMENDABLE Elevator: Quite small, fits only one or two people at once. Not suitable for those with a baby carriage like we had. Heating system: Inefficient. Our room wasn’t freezing, but it was definitely uncomfortable. Bathroom: The tap and shower water became extremely hot when our neighbors used their bathroom, making it uncomfortable for us. Cleanliness: Subpar. For instance, the small table wasn’t clean upon arrival, and there was visible dirt on the hairdryer’s cable. Price: While affordable, the level of cleanliness and overall quality do not match the cost.

A continental coach driver travelling all across UK and Europe. For a hostel, the room is amazing compared to the hostels we tend to stay in, however it does take a while for the room to warm up (12 hours) which is not easy when you’re up early in the morning and arrived late. The service from the staff, I cannot fault one bit, the breakfast has been amazing, pack lunches and the evening meals, everyone has been so kind and couldn’t go out their way any more than what they did. The location is ideal for tourist but in terms of a coach driver, unloading and loading is chaotic, parking is an 8 min drive away or a 25 minute walk, which is cheap enough in an uber but inconvenient. The price what you pay, I would give it a 5/5 if I was a guest. This review is mainly for fellow coach drivers who will be staying here with future groups.

Nasty I had a lot of experience in hotels, hostels and motels, but this one was by far one of the worst, if not THE worst (and I didn't have high expectations to begin with). I've never stayed in my place so dirty. We booked three rooms, got switched from one to the fourth because we found a condom on the ceiling, and yet all the rooms were equally filthy. The beds had not been changed, after asking for new sheets we had to change the beds in one room ourselves, other room was supposed to be done by the staff, but when we returned to the room the sheets still looked dirty, there were all kinds of scaby things and hair on it. Bathrooms in all rooms had clearly not been cleaned, they were disgusting. I was honestly surprised that we didn't find any bed bugs or other pests there. Of the three rooms we stayed in, two had good mattresses and were very warm. However, one room had terrible mattresses on the beds, we could literally feel the iron base of the bed, also it was freezing at night while the radiator was set to full and the windows closed. When booking the rooms we also booked two parking spaces. We couldn't pay right away for some vague reason. When we arrived the parking lot was full and our spots were given away. The stuff tried to make up for this by offering us a free breakfast, but considering how dirty the rooms and general coffee corner were, we didn't take advantage of the offer. The team there was not “not nice”, but not really “nice” either, which is totally new for me, because normally when I think of a hostel I think of hospitality, nice people and a lot of fun. Besides the nice concept of the lobby (only concept because it was dirty too) there was literally nothing positive to say about this place. Not even the price, it was the most expensive hostel stay I have ever booked. I definitely don't recommend it.

I was totally disappointed! The receptionist was rude and incompetent. The room was smelly, cold, and laud, i could cleaerly hear the others talking in the next door. Aviod that place it is not a hotel/hostel, it is rather barrack. The receptionist did not find my resevation in the system and made me call a number which told me the receptionist need to call them….eventually they figured that out the receptionist did something wrong. It is not nice in the middle of the night….

Very close to the hbf. However, this location had many men loitering. However, they did not approach or say anything to us. Just made it a little uncomfortable. The two bed private room was very nice.

I was positively surprised by the facilities. Nice, quite and tidy single room, with small but "enough" toilet with shower. The lobby was cosy and the Internet good. Easy check in and out. Will choose a&o also for my next trip 🙂

On a busy main street so quite noisy but cheap hostel. 4 free drinks per night which was a nice offer. Walkable to city centre and transport.

Very dirty - room barely cleaned, toilet absolutely disgusting. Halls and stairway and lifts filthy. Extremely noisy. Very uncomfortable beds. Very slow reception and check in. One lift broken, other doesn't stop at 5th floor. As another review said, it's more like a barracks. Ok for one night but no longer longer.

Not worth the money. It is in the Center, closer to a lot places, but facilities are not good enough. The charging point was broken in my bed. The room was stinking. Breakfast is not worth the extra pennies, if you get it for free as your deal, then good.

Place is cheap but would only book a whole room if I decide to stay in the future. Shared room is not an option, because you wont be able to sleep! Parking spot is not a guaranty although paid! Because personnel don't feel responsible if guests park on double spots. That brings question why are parking spots not numbered like rooms?

The staff that I interacted with were very kind and helpful, but the establishment has some frustrating aspects. - The bedsheets are not included in the cost of the bed, so unless you travel with a full set expect to be charged to rent some when you check in. - They advertise having a kitchen, but that is functionally not true. There is room with a fridge, an electric kettle, and little tabletop cooker, but no pans, pots, plates, or cooking utensils. They have one small bowl, one medium sized mug, and a couple of butter knives and forks. I ate my morning porridge out of a paper coffee cup with a fork because the bowl was in use and they didn't seem to have any spoons. I finished my breakfast and when I was packing up my little bag of oats, I notice that something had chewed a hole in the bag, which explained the mouse traps under the sink. If they just didn't say they had a kitchen and they just included the cost of the bedsheets in the price, it wouldn't really be much of an issue. I wouldn't normally rate a place with relatively minor issues so harshly, but to conceal the truth is bad practice.

So this place is 13 minutes walk from the Dusseldorf Hauptbahnhof. This is key as that is perfect for a tourist. With 2 adults and 2 young children under 7, the hostel was a good match. The pricing was good value for money and location was good. The rooms are clean and place is well maintained for the standards. It does however get very warm in the rooms as the heating was permanently on 24/7, had to open a window during winter to cool the room. There are two grocery stores less then 5 minutes walk away. The area is reasonably quiet at night in terms of a good sleep. On the ground floor by the main desk there is a small area with seating and play area for young children. There is a few communal desks for people to work. All in all it was a great place to stay.

It's a very good place for the cheap price. The attendants, 90% of them are very nice and careful people. The rooms are big enough, some have tvs, the good thing they have separate rooms for shower and toilets. You just have to be lucky to don't stay in the same room of a snorlax snooring like a chainsaw all the night. The only problem of the hostel is the kitchen, is really disgusting most of the times.

I was totally satisfied with my stay at a & o Hostel Dusseldorf. There is only one thing I have to mention: in my bed, the Mobil phone charging socket was out of order and I could not charge my Mobil phone.

The hostel was a normal and good hostel. The rooms were fine and quite clean. Only there was some chewing gum stuck to the beds. Furthermore, it was clean, but the thermostat of the shower was not quite right. Either very hot water came out or very cold. We were there with a large group and were all placed in the same corridor. That was very nice. There was a large lounge where you can chill out, but also play pool, for example. The breakfast was good too. I had a nice night there.

Stayed in a 6-bed multidorm. Extremely dirty rooms, you couldn't turn off the heating, and the USB chargers above the beds were broken. Even when you order bed linen and towels beforehand you have to pay for it when there. Personnel was very disinterested. Would not recommend the multibed dorms. Very centrally located though.

We had a great stay at a&o, everything was clean & in good order. Easy to check in and breakfast was great. The receptionist Aleksandra was really lovely and well informed, her english was exceptional and as a fellow traveller we enjoyed talking about our trips abroad. Overall, this is one of the best cleanest and friendliest hostels I have ever had the pleasure of staying in.

Nice place to stay for the night for very small price! However, don’t recommend to take their parking cause it is very small and not very easy to park there (had to park in 5cm conditions between my car and the wall)

The booking.com doesn’t have all the description about this place. garage does not have elevator to the main floor. If you have luggages , then offload at the main entrance and use elevators from main floor to your room. There are no security at the door ; so basically , the public have access to get in!!! Our room is to the street, with lots and lots of noise!! Luckily I stay two nights. I have booked for 4 people but just two beds have cover sheets and we asked for the rest. I am absolutely so disappointed and will not come back.

Probably the worst hostels experience I ever had in Germany. Noisy all day, everywhere inside and outside of the rooms, people smoking in the front door all day, guests kitchen is not for guests is for a community of Albanian residents who are living in the hostel. One day don't charge you for bed sheets, other day they do. Definitely a experience to not repeat.

An inexpensive place to stay and a relatively good location. Downsides are that the room was dirty and dusty and the bathroom was very small. Also, the window is so thin so it was cold and you could hear the busy street. I probably would recommend spending a bit more for more comfort.

Room looks and feels like a cellar: it s dark and nosy, walls and floor are dirty. Smoker guest stand directly in the front door, the whole lobby smells from cigarette smoke, you can even smell it in your room.

I am staying in female dorm and its ok with this price point. But rooms are really suffocating and the people are extremely rude I just needed fresh air for 5 mins and the lady staying in my room starts shouting at me the middle of the night. I just opened the window and I was standing there in just 10 sec she made a scene and made me close the window.Saying that I am not normal she will go to receptionist and complain or call the hospital to take me away coz i am not normal and said what if I die in the middle of night it won't be good for the reputation of this hostel. I don't know how can people be so insensitive towards others. I hate it here so much, it was the worst experience of my life. I suggest if you want to come here come with your own group of friends or take a single room. It's disgusting to know that such insensitive people exist. I have nothing against the hostel itself it nice and managmet is good. But its just what I experienced here made everything worse.

Cheapest around but would be worth it as well to just use the money to pay an Uber or anything else. They'll charge for the bed sheets(3.50) and the unfriendly male staff won't even bother to direct you around, figure yourself out! Even when there are no reservations they will still pack you all in the same (stuffed) room to leave other rooms for possible higher profit making (no customer concern - terrible for Covid).

I've been on two separate occasions. On both the service was friendly, and the rooms were clean enough. Prices are good, even on Saturdays, and the place is located smack in the centre, close to everything pretty much. Only real gripe is probably the soundproofing.. best bring earplugs with you.

  • 5/5 suzi c. 2 years ago on Google
Rogers is the best staff member! Loved the 24 hours bar but wish the security didn't hush people who were just talking The 4 bed private form was great but we had to make one of the beds ourselves. The shower was great 33% of the time, the others the water pressure was nonexistent and the temperature fluctuated drastically. Nice branded taps though! The breakfast was more than adequate especially the pancake machine! But the water cups could be bigger. Location was perfect.

Room, bath and toilet clean and orderly. Breakfast was worse; many things weren't replenished or missing entirely like honey, salt/pepper, mayo/ketchup, big spoons. Dirty cups

We stayed here for 3 nights. We had booking for four beds in six bed room. Unfortunately, Electric plugs which are attached to beds weren’t working. We asked help at reception but they rudely answered us and didn’t suggested any solution. So we(6 people) had to recharge our electronic devices with only one common plug in the room. Also, there were no windows. Poor ventilation. Worst experience. I don’t recommend this a&o.

•really cheap option especially in a so expensive city as Düsseldorf. that offers you the chance to visit the city for more days •many public rooms like kitchen, washing rooms, living rooms so you never feel alone • there are rooms for 4-12 people so you can choose with how many people do you want to stay with • also everyday someone comes and clean the room • only negative thing for me is that no one cares about the noise that kids make in public room I mean it’s impossible to stand that sometimes even with headphones

Great location for stag do’s! Right in the centre of Düsseldorf close to all local bars and clubs. There is also a pool table and bar downstairs and a nice seating area to relax in. Rooms where decent and was ideal for a group of lads on a stag do. Only downside was the bunk bed which was a nightmare to climb up after a few drinks 🤣. Very friendly staff. Overall good experience.

The room is very nice but unfortunately my visit did not turn out so well. When I arrived, there was a group of people drinking beer and smoking right in front of the door. Once inside at the reception, there was no one there. It turned out the staff was also smoking outside and did not rush in. Unfortunately, my night rest was disturbed by beats from dance music. I decided to leave early and it turned out the music came from the reception! They had it on really loud. There was no one dancing however ;) Upon departure, there were again people drinking and smoking right in front of the door.

Terrible room - smells like nicotine :/ (odor comes from ventilation and even with open window you can feel the smell). Room not to clean at all - you clearly see some thing in room have not been cleaned for a long time. Registration on reception goes very slowly.
