It is a heritage cinema hall in kolkata. New Empire cinema auditorium was set up in 1932. The chief designer architect of this theatre was A. de Bois Shrosbree. At that time this theatre was used to perform Ballets and plays. The adjacent building is the Lighthouse Cinema it was closed in 2002, however, the New Empire Cinema is still active. Currently, the cinema's capacity is 1000 seats. The theatre management is running a few food stalls like Domino’s, KFC, Barista which is helping them to gain financial stability.Good sound quality. The screen is big. But the chair was not working properly. Screen is good, sound also ok, wooden seats are a bit old and fine. But rats are running in ground when we watching films, some bugs (small cockroach) are flying and annoying. Tickets price are very very reasonable if you compare it with other cinema halls in Kolkata

New Empire Cinema is a single screen cinema hall located in Humayun Place in New Market, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This theatre is next to Lighthouse Cinema. Ticket price is cheap. This is a old theater πŸŽ₯ in Kolkata and atmosphere is like you are watching cinema in 90's. However they are managing well. There is no free parking. Food is available outside.

The New Empire Cinema Auditorium was established in 1932. In the early 1960s, it started showing movies as well as plays. By the end of this decade, this hall was converted into a full-fledged cinema hall. Currently, this hall has a seating capacity of 1,000.

The New Empire cinema hall is one of the oldest movie theatres in Kolkata. It used to be a great movie hall once upon a time, but now, it has become terrible. The halls are badly managed and maintained. The seating arrangements were the only good thing. The staff of the movie theatre was extremely indecent, rude and didn't know how to take care of the audience. There are so many gates to the hall that you might get lost. Each gate leads to a specific set of seats. So you might have to ask their staff which gate is relevant to your seat numbers. We were completely lost as to which gate we should enter through. So, we asked the staff members. They first showed us a wrong gate, and then we had to come down and go up again using another staircase, and there too, the hall staff member misguided us. We had to again get to a different gate, which finally gave us way to our seats. In this whole process, we lost around 10-15 minutes, and the movie had already started by then. Not to forget that how rude and indecent the staff members were. I think they don't know how to behave, and are very thick-skinned. They will be ignorant towards you if you complain to them about their behaviour, and if they get angry, they might say rude, insulting things to you. Inside the hall, don't expect to have gentlemen and gentle-ladies. The audience is quite different and many come from poor, deprived or dysfunctional backgrounds. Some are, occasionally, also local punks, spoiled brats and thugs. So, a handful of the audiences are not decent. And don't even dare to get in a verbal argument with anyone. Otherwise, you may end up being the victim of a violent fist fight which won't end well. It is better to just stay safe and ignore any offensive remarks from anyone: be it the guards, the staff, or the audience people. I would say that, just keep a low profile everywhere. Watch the movie, be done with it, and go home. The toilets are very dirty and over-crowded. You have to stand in a queue near the toilet basin to wait for your turn. It's that crowded and congested. There is a stinky smell everywhere. Inside the theatre, the audio system is poor. There is a bad ambience, bad smell. There are ATM's nearby. The place is not wheelchair-accessible and has no parking space. It is a very crowded area too. Pick-pockets happen. So be careful with your phone, your wallet or handbag and your personal things.

Now it become a worthless movie hall. Movie hall now become a bypass road. In every single minutes lots of people opening Movie hall gate and going here n there.they are the general staff of restaurant and other people. You can't enjoy Movie properly. In a 2 hrs 30 minute Movie; through out the time other people are entering Movie hall room and minimum 150 to 200 times the gates are opening. Totally unprofessional Management. Negative star rating recommended..

Nostalgic..but difficult to find for the first time... Situated in one heritage building with barista..kfc on the ground floor. And new empire cinema on the first floor.. walking distance from Esplanade metro (gate no. 6) besides citi mart opposite of sree ram arcade .. atmosphere is good ...sound quality..picture quality is good .. ticket price is also affordable (150,200,250) ..box also available for couple besides circle and stall ....theatre experience was good but need some renovation as it is an old auditorium..outside auditorium there is a small coffee stall... washroom is also available... Overall a good theatrical experience...

The man at the ticket counter was very rude, ill-mannered and impolite. He did not ask me before alloting the seat and alloted the seat of his choice . And when I said why didn't you ask. He answered me in a very harsh tone 'hum kyun puchenge'. What the hell !! Worst experience ever.

If you have hygiene issues this place is worst for you, bathroom hasn't been reconstructed or cleaned from the day it has been made. Recliner are so bad , hall is not clean at all . They are receiving a good amount of people and I think they should maintain the basics . But the one thing that I really really liked about this place is it's food. Coffee was very tasty and also the potato chips , very much pocket friendly also β™₯️
