Awesome
experience!
A
city
that
has
lived
through
history,
a
city
that
has
created
history,
will
of
course
have
layers
and
layers
of
stories
deep
within
it's
wall,
buried
under
it's
roads,
permeating
it's
atmosphere.
Kolkata
is
a
treasure
trove
of
such
stories,
and
today
morning
was
spent
imbibing
most
thrilling
stories
about
the
crime
history
in
this
city
with
'Kolkata
Heritage
Walk'.
Who
knew
Warren
Hastings
had
put
James
Augustus
Hickey,
founder
of
Bengal
Gazette,
to
prison,
and
it
can
be
said
to
be
the
first
instance
of
gagging
the
press?
Who
would
know
that
East
India
Company
did
not
agree
to
have
a
police
department
in
the
city,
though
crime
rate
was
increasing,
and
hence
an
informal
police
department
was
first
formed
with
subscription
from
local
rich
people?
And
that
the
first
police
chief,
W.C.
Blacquiere
was
so
successful,
that
the
painting
of
the
Last
Supper
in
St.
John's
church
features
him
as
St.
John?
He
often
used
to
disguise
as
a
bejewelled
European
lady
and
lure
bandits
and
pirates,
who
would
get
captured
when
they
tried
to
grab
him.
Then
there
is
the
story
of
a
gruesome
mudder
of
a
lady,
Rose
Brown,
one
side
of
whose
face
became
totally
disfigured
and
photography
was
used
to
identify
the
lady.
However
this
case
was
so
badly
handled,
with
the
actual
criminal,
one
Mr.
Kingsley,
got
away
without
being
punished!
It
lead
to
criticism
in
press
(though
not
for
the
correct
reason),
and
finally
to
the
establishment
of
formal
detective
department
of
police.
Again
a
story
of
another
horrible
murder
of
a
Jewish
lady,
Maria
Lee
Judah,
by
Naseem
Salom
Gubboy,
which
is
a
story
of
love
and
betrayal.
And
then
there
is
the
story
of
Trilokya,
a
woman
who
was
serial
killer,
about
7-8
years
before
Jack
the
Ripper!
And
my
God,
she
WAS
intelligent!!
The
way
she
spread
her
plots,
the
way
she
covered
up,
the
way
she
practically
toyed
with
human
emotions,
the
social
standings
is
simply
mind
blowing!!
She
was
brutal,
merciless
-
but
one
cannot
help
but
wonder,
what
may
have
happened
if
she
had
not
embarked
in
this
path...her
story
demands
another
post
all
together!
This
was
a
wonderful
walk...touching
upon
places
where
these
events
had
taken
place,
and
talking
history
while
walking...amazing!
I
highly
recommend
this
walk
to
all
who
are,
or
will
be
coming
to
Kolkata.
If
you
love
history
and
mystery,
this
walk
won't
disappoint
you.
