Snacks are pretty good. The muttamala was okayish. Biriyanis were really bad. The Chicken and fish were not fresh. But the Prawns biriyani was okay but way pricey. Overall the place doesn't live up to the hype.

Their savoury dishes and snacks are the ones that I would go back there for! Reach the spot by 5-6pm and you are in for a treat. While I had all the snacks they were offering (one of each), what caught my attention was a flattened egg dish. It was a boiled egg spiced up to perfection! Please do try this out. The eatery is a quaint little family run hotel. There is a very homely vibe to the entire place. It is very elegant indeed. Like all the other places in Kozhikode, parking is an trouble nearby. If you’re lucky, you should get a spot though! Auto/two wheelers are always recommended. Don’t forget to soothe your taste buds with their flavoured milks! As for lunch and dinner items, I ate there, but there are definitely better places around for a full meal as I think.

Zain’s hotel - popular snacks spot in calicut. They serve all varities of malabari snacks. I visited them post lunch so ordered their ela ada which is traditional kerala delicacy and chaiya. It tasted good and prices were affordable. I feel pity on myself for not trying their other dishes🥲 Do try them out if you’re looking for perfect high tea place.

Decided to try out the place after all the hype, but was really disappointed! With all the options available for naadan food around, this place is mediocre at best. The place has a charming rustic vibe, which is possibly the only appealing side. We tried the mutton biriyani, chicken biriyani and the fried spring chicken. Both the biryanis were below average, it wasn't warm even! In addition, the meat in the mutton biryani didn't carry any of the flavours of the masala, it seemed as if it was cooked separately and added to biriyani rice. The spring chicken was good, but I definitely have had better. Overall quite a disappointing experience and would not recommend even for the nostalgia of what it once was.

Preserving heritage with an exotic fare of snacks and classical 1980s construction, the restaurant is one of the oldest in the area. Had a wonderful array of snacks like steamed rice cakes, banana dumplings, steamed eggs, mussels pakoda and the show stopper was egg pathiri. Finally topped up with Suleimani chai and Cashew cups...!

This place is very famous in Calicut. The food here tasted fine, nothing worth repeating. The reason why I did not like the place is the cleanliness. It was very dirty inside and I did not visit again. Today while passing through the area I saw the hotel was under renovation. Maybe I will visit again to see how things are now.

Normally I don't have one full biriyani without wasting. First time I got my food crate empty when I had biriyani from here. Was so tastey. And no dine in only takeaway. Their biriyani having less oil plus fresh chicken. Prawns biriyani having some special taste. Quotab minar of biriyani.

THE BEST !! NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS! Definitely a must visit place in Kozhikode. Try out their different snacks, everything was soooo yum!! Loved it. I would recommend everyone to come with a empty stomach and try all of their snacks along with Milk tea/Lemon tea, wahh ! That will make your day. To try all the famous Malabar snacks, one should definitely come here and I don't think any other place offers much better than this quality and taste ( may be apart from some of the road side chaya kadas ;) Forgive the picture quality, was busy eating and forgot to take a picture in the beginning !! Could capture only with few snacks at the end, lol.

One of the good restaurants in Calicut with lots of tradition. I think they lost their traditional taste a little bit (on my own recent experience)and it’s visible in the number of customers. Recently I had Chicken Kuruma here but I fell it just as a Chicken Curry, nothing special or like Kuruma.Otherwise I feel not great but feels like a “Homely food”

I had “arkadukka” from their. It was really disappointing. The lime juice was also too salty and sour. But they have good arrangement of seats. The ambiance is nice. The cost is bit high. Fish pathiri tasted good. Read good reviews about the restaurant but personally I am not satisfied.

Good place to experience the kozhikodan snacks. Very neat and clean area. You can see the glimpse of the kitchen. You can try once if you like to try the kozhikodan vibavangal from a home food style. You dont feel like eating from a busy hotel.

Kalumakaya narachathu..( mussels stuffed fry) here is the best that you can ask for! .No one could in this city of great food could match the tasty snacks they serve.!

For all the hype on social media, it was sadly underwhelming, especially the biriyani (chicken and mutton). I've to admit to having had much better biriyanis elsewhere in Calicut (at Bombay, Paragon, etc). The spring chicken fried was decent enough. Zain's could do better i feel, considering it does attract a decent touristy crowd and locals too.

1- First of all. They charge too much price eventhough it's a home made food. 2- Talking about the service, it's a big flop. We have to wait for long, more than a reasonable time. 3- Snacks was superB. And other foods like poratta and all was awesome. 4- I won't recommend here for biriyani, But for snacks and tea, definitely it's a must try one. The price is little high compared to other restaurants.

My experience was a little off as I went there in the afternoon at around 2 and lot of things were not available. However from the things that we tried, mussel fry stood out. It was just amazing. Biryani was also very good.

A place which brings you happiness about every decision that you've made about it. I've had beef biriyani from Zain's and it was exceptionally good. You will not feel heavy or artificial about the biriyani. The ambience here also will make you comfortable. The beverages that we had from here were also very good. The service of the manager and the staff were so polite and customer friendly. Must visit place.

Very nice place to have a quick bite especially snacks... I had bamboo chicken, unnakaaya and chattipathiri from there... And all three dishes tasted really good...those who love calicut special evening snacks can come here and order without any hesitation...those who dont like oily snacks kindly avoid..... Parking is a problem here if the place is crowded...

The key to get the best of all the snacks served hot is to walk in after 3:30 or 4. You can see the section getting stocked up and you can go ahead pointing on the delicacies you want to be served. Killer snacks, and during ramzan time the menu just gets extravagant. Close to the beach. Parking is very tricky. Sometimes you will have to wait to get seated in weekends. The ambience and service is very good. The chairs may not be too comfortable to sit for longer period to enjoy the meal.

Fish biriyani is delicious . beef biriyani, beef was a bit hard. We had to wait for a minimum of 10 minutes to get attended by a staff . If service and infrastructure is improved this place can be a wonderful place to visit again.

Have never seen so many varieties an options for snacks in a single place. Couldn't do justice to the food as wasn't hungry. Service was very much welcoming and warm. Need to visit the place again to enjoy the food

A very famous restaurant/home converted to a hotel. A variety of snack items are famous. Amazing prawns curry and porotta. All dishes are very tasty. Just the toilet could be a little better and more spacious. Parking is also a challenge

The kadukka fry and kadukka roast....we drove from ernakulam to Calicut to eat these specials at Zain ....as always....love their food! I recommend it!

The food they provided was good. But the tables and chair weren't cleaned while we were looking for a better corner to sit. All the food wastes and tissues in the floor, tables and chairs didn't impressed me at all. It was really disgusting. I don't know whether it was only my experience or others also felt the same. But the food I ordered was delicious and the porotta was very crispy. What I am specifying through this review is cleanliness. Also I felt it very bad, when the waiter brought those wet plates. Please correct all these flaws.

The famous zains hotel of kozhikode, serves the best of kozhikode snacks and puddings, the taste was really good and the prices affordable. Ideal time to visit is around 4 pm. Dining space is adequate but parking is limited. Try for the awesome snacks.

We wanted to eat ari kadukka and friends suggested this place. Very homely good food. Had ghee rice, chicken stew, nice pathiri, prawn and Ari kadukka Liked everything. Near beach.

food is okay. also place is having a good ambience of havig food from a tharavad house . But they have poor service . I have visited here multiple times. Each time they took a lot of time to attend the table .

Five years ago, i gave this place a 5 star rating! Can't believe the place has regressed so much. I was surprised to find no crowd on a Friday lunch time. But realized the reason after tasting the food. Had mutton biriyani(as suggested by the waiter), Beef roast , porotta, a chicken delicacy and prawns. Apart from prawns fry, which was ok, everything was a total let down. Hope the place regains its lost glory.

A restaurant with authentic Calicut cuisine. Popular for their snacks, non vegetarian dishes, Biriyani. Now I could see a wide range of desserts and drinks as well. The quality of food is good and cost is reasonable. Try their mutton stew, irachi pathiri and kallummekaya.

Good variety of authentic Kerala non veg snacks..i ordered fish Briyani along with the snacks.. fish piece in the briyani was good but briyani i didn't like. It felt like tamarind rice, probably it's a kerala style. So if you had eaten Madurai and Chennai briyanis or any part from Tamil Nadu, avoid ordering briyani..
