The tax refund lady was not in a happy mood. Comparing with Isetan and Takashimaya Shinjuku tax refund clerks, she was abrupt, unfriendly and brusque. Not a good attitude in a store clerk. The tax refund was also located inconveniently in the mezannine. With a bad back, I had to carry my heavy purchases up 2 flights of stairs and down again. The tourist discount card also had to be claimed from her before purchase. In Isetan and Takashimaya, it was issued by the first stop where I bought something.

BEWARE: The employees steal money from tourists. I bought a parasol in the accessories department on the ground floor and paid with a 10,000 yen bill ($100), which is BROWN. The employee looked at this money I had put on the tray, turned around and walked to a BACK CURTAINED AREA, and emerged with a DIFFERENT BLUE 1,000 yen bill and said oh I'm sorry, this is the wrong bill, you need to pay with a 10,000 yen bill. There was a group of employees looking on at this interaction lowering their heads and smirking. I was flabbergasted. Later I tried to complain to the management and they denied such a thing could happen. I lived in Tokyo for 7 years and would never make this mistake, but I could see that tourists would, all the time.

A grand looking department store with some very old traditional lifts. Lots of levels with different goods. Cakes and food at the bottom.

A very old school department store that deserves its place in the history of Japanese retailing. It has a long history and manages to keep the traditional format. It reminds us of the good old days in the 80s when Japan's economy was at its peak. In its haydays, they even opened a branch in Hong Kong! This department store is nestled in between Ueno and Okachimachi. If u approach it from the famous Ameyokocho, it's towards the end of it. Let no others tell u it's an old mama store with nothing interesting and should be skipped. On the contrary, you may be amazed what u can find there. They still manage to gather some rather good local brands of clothing, and their kitchenware selections are fantastic, too. Do look at and ride their elevator. It must be some of the oldest in Tokyo! The floorbos indicated by a turnstile! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and understand a bit more about Japan.

One of the best unagi (eel over rice bowl) in Tokyo. The eels was so tender, one of the highest quality of unagi. Usually I only eat unagi in Hamamatsu, the origin of unagi producing area in Japan. But this one is okay too. The store is located in the basement floor in the food court area. They have only four table, and normally there is quite a line during lunch time.

It is a typical big Japanese department store. I went there to buy some organic food and of course I got everything I need but at a more expensive price.

Elevator was old and nice. they have made in Japan pencil cases and pencils on the top floor.

One of, nowadays, precious typical Japanese Hyakkaten department store complexes that we all need to splash on sometimes to keep them alive. Good quality and superb services all the way. Limited time free and other 3rd party roofed bike parking available.

Hmm…I guess you have a lot of spare money to search about this place. Nonetheless, the place itself is quite big, more or less it has every kind of shops. The foods here are worth visiting all though they are expensive. The ground floor is dedicated for foods items.

A department store in downtown Tokyo. Comparing to department stores In central Tokyo (e.g. Ginza, Shinjuku, etc.), this place is relatively small.

On ur way home or to meet someone u can get some thing for them ( sweets or something traditional) best quality for a good price always…. and there are some good cosmetics options here … 😇🕺
