The church and the surrounding is so well maintained. The chairs and glass paintings inside has the old charm to it. The flower garden out is very beautiful and you a get a good view of the landscape from the entrance. Must visit place for sure.

Almost 200years old , this stands as a beautiful crown are the heart of the city. The service is serene and peaceful, I especially loved the mass with the Girl's school choir. The choir orchestra performs melodically which give chills with their perfect tune and volume. The glass paintings hold a history of it's own. The roof is similar to a inverted boat of those days, as of the hull of a ship. The tower is brilliant with a clock. The church is very similar to that one in Shimla, which was built on almost the same time. I wish the compound and the foreground is more beautified with garden.

Very well maintained church built in 1800. The wooden with wooden work and three architectural details inside the church are amazing. The stained glass work is wonderful. The details are kind blowing.

A peaceful church situated very near to the main road. Abundant parking space. The history goes back to 19 centuary were Stephen Rumbold who felt the need for a church in Ooty exclusively for British people. It was opened to public on 1831. Interesting fact is the the beam and other timber used are taken from Tipu sultans palace. The church is so calm and quiet and you can enjoy few hours here.

The church dates back to the 19th century. Stephen Rumbold Lushington, the then Governor of Madras, who keenly felt the need for a church in Ooty exclusively for the British, laid the foundation for the church on 23 April 1829, to coincide with the birthday of King George IV. St. Stephen's Church was consecrated by John Matthias Turner, Bishop of Calcutta, on 5 November 1830. It was opened to the public communion on Easter Sunday 3 April 1831

Around 1.7km from the ooty bus stand. We took a rickshaw which charged Rs. 150 to visit this place. The place is cool to visit, surrounded by a garden. Even the mountain view from church is very pleasant. We went on Christmas day, got to attend prayers. Parking slots are available. And even rickshaws are available very frequently.

Its a amazing church very old dated to 1850. The grounds are beautiful with variety of flowers growing. The interiors are even more beutiful. A must must visit place if u are in otty and love old churches. It reminds of old chrches in europe. There are beautiful glass paintings inside. The whole aura of silence and peace makes one want to spend more time in there. Just loved the whole experience.

A very well planned out Church, located in the heart of the city with rich history, brilliant architectural layout and design, a very grand altar arrangement, some vintage chairs, complimenting lighting, some wonderful glass paintings, nostalgic woodwork with great ambiance overall. Not just a 'must visit', but you 'must worship' the Trinity here during your holidays.

Very nice and old church. Well maintained with a beautiful garden around it. You'll love the simple architecture and glass in lead windows. Parking can be done in front of the church. Kindly take off your footwear before entering. On the backside of the church you'll find an old cemetery. It's one of many churches in ooty but definitely one of few that has is worth visiting from a touristic point of view due to its old age.

St. Stephen’s Church is one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiris district. Stephen Rumbold Lushington, the then Governor of Madras, keenly felt the need for a church in Ooty, laid the foundation for the church in 1829. It is believed that the wood was acquired from Tipu Sultan’s palace. It came under the Church of South India in 1947. The architect in-charge was John James Underwood, Captain, Madras Regiment. The massive main beam and other timber in the church were taken from Tipu Sultan’s palace on the island of Srirangapatnam. The material was transported up the Sigur Ghat. The architect was Captain J.J. Underwood and the construction cost was about Rs. 24,000 at the time. It is surprising to note that the church does not show any wear & tear after so many years.

Other than that of the church 's long history, there are some beautiful architectures and paintings that will astonish us in the beautiful St Stephens church in Ooty. The beautiful windows near the altar are the main attractions here. Other than that there is a beautiful cemetery on the back of the church. There is a tubular bell in the church that is really cool and it is not known for many.I really loved the history and renaissance architecture of this beautiful church.

A really beautiful Church in the heart of Ooty!! St. Stephens depicts a clear dominance of the British Area in the region when the church was built! A stunning architecture clearly gives an insight into the intricate details of the handiwork that was involved in making this church! The Church houses beautiful flowers that grow in their gardened area The Church also features a cemetery at it's rear

Felt divine and peaceful.. Unless you come to pray, it isn't worth visiting here. The church is near 200 years old. But apart from that it's just a regular church. This cannot be compared to Santhome Cathedral in Chennai or St.Francis church in Goa. We came on a new year day, they were closing the windows as we enter the church around 11 am, it got dark inside, you can see from the image. All seats in the left most row were completely dusty and unusable, just the middle and right rows were usable. Maintenance definitely needs to be improved here.
