Great place to reminisce the difficult time people went through and also able to see how evil mind can ruin innocent lives. Must watch the movie before walk around. Can have English version of the movie. Only 20 minutes.

Terrific educational and historical gem of a divided town and smaller museum whose preservations are still on-going that houses different types of exhibitions (vehicles, historical accounts/photos, outside wall and watchtower, plus surrounding other facets, library). English is limited (outside placards excellent plus video). Well worth the drive out here (in this town cell signal may be lost so pay attention for when Google Maps won't load!). Ample parking and cheap €3 entrance price.

A must visit location for any student of history who is interested in the "Cold War" as experienced in Germany. While the Berlin wall gets a lot more attention the fascinating case of Mödlareuth is one that should get a lot more attention. Here was another town literally split in two once German was divided into East and West. On site museum, gift shop, and sample of vehicles really added to the experience. Highly recommend it.

Very informative and well told of how the village but also society was divided by force and what the Eastern German block did to maintain the divide.

We are an English family, just to be clear. This museum is an absolute eye opener. One of the best displays of the East-West Germany divide outside of Berlin. This community was divided right through the middle by the wall. The village was known as "Little Berlin". The staff were amazing and did everything they could to help us as we don't speak good German! The display of the checkpoint and wall are extremely interesting. There are a lot of monuments as well. There is also a vehicle museum. It is in a separate building up the hill, though the ticket is required for entry to all museum sections. Don't forget to check if out! There are toilets and a gift shop. Everything is disability accessible, but this is not really a great museum for a rainy day! If you like your recent history, this museum is 100% worth visiting!

Ein sehr beeindruckender Ort mit viel Geschichte. Sehr schön gemacht mit viel Erklärungen. Wir waren 1989 dabei. Es hat viele Erinnerungen geweckt.

Nice visit and interesting. Most displays are understandably in German. Interesting items around the property.

As a young soldier in the early 1980's, I spent a lot of time on patrol in this area. I returned about 2 months ago as I wanted to show my children "what I did in the Army". The items displayed brought back many great and proud memories of my younger days. I even actual worked with Master Sergeant O'Connell, who's uniform top is on display in the museum. This is a definite must see for anyone who wants to better understand how Germany was divided for some 40 years. I have so many more pictures of my time there, but did not want to clog up this email. Maybe one day.....

A vey interesting, informative little museum. The movie and the information boards outside have English versions. Unfortunately, the indoor museum displays are only in German. This museum was an excellent experience for our teenagers who weren't entirely familiar with the division of Germany during the Cold War. Well worth the detour to see this place, especially if you aren't visiting Berlin.

Excellent museum with lots of interesting material in authentic locations. Really nicely restored fragments of the wall and guarding towers. Makes you realize how crazy the world actually was (still is).

The staff was amiable and helpful. The 20-minute film is available in English, and some of the display's information panels are printed in both English and Deutsch, making this museum quite accessible. There are postcards, posters, and small model cars for sale in the main building if you're looking for souvenirs. I strongly recommend this location if you are serving or have served in the US Army 2d Cavalry Regiment, as some of its Cold War legacy can be found here.

The German-German Museum in Mödlareuth is well worth a visit. Only a 10 min drive from the motorway. Easy to find, well signposted. Mostly everything is outside so it really is a "weather dependent" visit. The original wall and outer fencing is still in place. Everything is in German and English. Imagine living in a small village, seperated in the middle by a stream dividing two counties and state systems. Families and friends seperated. Border guards given a "shoot to kill" order if anyone crossed over illegally. That is how it was in this small village with around 40 inhabitants! Go visit it, an education for young and old.

If Berlin is not on your way, go here and see a real wall that cut a German village in two halves. A nice museum and collection of bordergard vehicles as well.

Great museum detailing what it was like living in a divided town in a divided country during the time of the DDR. We had an interesting visit here and the kids learned a lot about the history of Germany and living conditions during that time. Very nicely down exhibits and the local folks take pride in their town and welcomed questions.

The museum includes four different areas: the actual exhibition of items, signs and photos of the pre-unification times and the day when the wall came down; a video of how the wall came up and down again; a separate building with vehicles from the DDR and finally, my personal favourite, the site where the wall still stands with the multiple fences, trenches and guard towers. I highly recommend to visit this museum, in the small village that came to be known as "little Berlin"

An impressive and sobering place. It shows how one small village was divided by the communists at the same time the Berlin Wall was built, and stayed that way until 1989. The outdoor displays are really good, as well as the indoor museum area. I have lived in Germany for over 20 years, and it's only about an hour and 15 minutes from my house, and yet I had never heard of this place. Highly recommended if you're interested in Cold War history. Admission is 4 euros per adult, and 3 euros for children and senior citizens.

The topic is interesting but the exhibition is not very attractive.

Great experience. If you want to visit the museum you can also see an interesting short documentary about the village. I recommend.

A great look into the brutal division of Germany with a wall running right through the middle of this tiny village. "Little Berlin" was famous during the Cold War. The museum has great exhibits, vehicles, a film in English about the border, and an intact section of the real wall. Worth a visit!

Nice little exhibition, with some of the texts in English. They offer the movie showing in English though

Really interesting place. I didn't even know the Russkis built another wall in Germany.
