Great place to camping. There are camping providers, or can placed your own camp. How ever best option is contact a guide and camping maker, otherwise it will harder to find better place for camping. If u try poonagala road there is a shop ( New Raja Stores ) with a car park which having cctv surveillance system. Parking charges satisfied. Superb place to get an adventures fresh water experience with amazing water falls.

This is a nature's gift for the adventurous climbers who brave the difficult terrain to reach there. Upper Diyaluma is actually a series of steps in the rocks over which water cascades down magnificently. These are completely hidden from view when you look up into the sky at the base of the Lower Diyaluma Waterfall beside Beragala-Wellawaya Road. To reach Upper Diyaluma there are 3 foot paths. Two lead up from Koslanda side and one lead down from Poonagala side. If you want to travel safe and learn about the surroundings I recommend to hire pioneering guide named Dinesha. He knows the region like the back of his hand. He knows where you should take extra care to avoid injury. Risk of injury is significant if you are careless during upward as well as downward journey. You can catch him on YouTube. If you drive your own vehicle - should preferably be an SUV with 4WD/AWD you can park beside his house/restaurant. To make the adventure complete you can ask his wife to cook a rice meal so that you can eat at the restaurant on your way back. In one or two pictures that I have posted with this review you can see "Dinesha Baba" - how he's affectionately known by the villagers, as he jumps into a rock pool below. Never attempt this jump or the slide down the waterfall on the rock on your own, and unless you are a good swimmer. You can easily make this a half day adventure. Leave early before sun is too hot, stay at the top for a couple of hours and slowly climb down in the afternoon. If you want to witness the sunset leave in the afternoon and come back at dusk. Wear hiking shoes or similar with gripping sole. Kids can climb under adult supervision. For toddlers it's too much of a risk. Even kids should be observed while in the water. For those with troubled knees this hike is not recommended. Difficulty level is moderate to high. After a rain it can be a lot slippery.

At 220m tall, Diyaluma Falls in Sri Lanka, is the second-tallest waterfall in the country and a stunning spectacle of nature. The waterfall, locally known as Uda Diyaluma, is located around 40km south of Ella, making it the perfect day trip if you’re staying in this small mountainside town. We recently did just that, and I’m here to help you do the same. The enormous rocky facade is peppered with lush, green vegetation, thriving in the mist of the falls. Up top, the ceaseless flow of water has carved intricate channels and pools into the rock, weaving through the verdant mountain terrain. These pools are amongst the best in the world for a scenic swim, with views that will take your breath away.

Beautiful waterfall. Do not hire a guide. It’s unnecessary. Just follow the path. Veer left about 2/3 through to go to Upper Falls. Then make your way down on the path to the left of the falls. Also avoid taking a tuktuk. It’s uncomfortable and takes 2+ hours each way.

Should visit. Nice place. You can do water sports in fresh water. Reaching the destination is not easy. 30 min hike through the gravel path.

Upper Diyaluma also known as Udu Diyaluma is a really good place to chill. The environment is so clean and clear with super clean fresh water. Upper Diyaluma is the starting of the diyalumafalls. There are natural pools appeared on the rock bottom which are not too deep. There are few layers of water basins. It seems like it's safe for high jump but not good for diving since its not too deep. But the sad fact is, you have to stay careful about your bags and belongings while you enjoy your selves. There are robbers. Our money and food parcels were stolen whike we were having the bath.

The waterfall is located in the Badulla district, about 13 kilometers away from the town of Haputale. To reach Upper Diyaluma, you need to undertake a relatively challenging trek, but it is well worth the effort. The trail leading to the waterfall is surrounded by lush green forests and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Once you reach the waterfall, you will be greeted by a majestic sight of water cascading down from a height of over 220 meters. The waterfall has a natural pool at the bottom, where visitors can take a refreshing dip in the cool waters. The experience of swimming in the pool surrounded by the stunning natural scenery is truly unforgettable. Overall, Upper Diyaluma is an excellent destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone who wants to experience the beauty of Sri Lanka's natural wonders. However, keep in mind that the trek to the waterfall can be challenging, so it is essential to be physically fit and prepared for the journey.

Recommended to us by a local and so glad we listened as this was such a good hike through the jungle ending up at the upper falls, which took about 45mins to reach. A series of smaller waterfalls and swimming holes to cool off in before flowing into the main waterfall that can be seen from the roadside down below. Unbelievable views, really beautiful area and nobody else there. Did feel like a hidden gem off the tourist trail. Would suggest a guide for ease and safety as there were some tricky spots to navigate.

Upper Diyaluma Falls, Sri Lanka's second-highest waterfall, is a popular destination for young adventurers. The journey to reach this pristine waterfall is an adventure in itself, as you navigate through lush forests and scenic landscapes. For those who embrace the journey, the reward is immense. The scenery is breathtaking, offering panoramic views of the surrounding hills, tea plantations, and the down valley. During the rainy season, it is best to avoid visiting here as the powerful flow can be really dangerous. For the more adventurous souls, camping at Upper Diyaluma Falls is a truly unforgettable experience. However, it is essential to be caution, particularly at night, as wild elephants may roam the area. In summary, Upper Diyaluma Falls is a must-visit destination for those who appreciate the magnificence of nature. With its incredible height, natural pools, and scenic landscapes, it offers a thrilling yet beautiful escape.

Second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. One of the most beautiful places in Badulla district. Situated in Koslanda area of Wellawaya Beragala road. You can reach the top of the waterfalls after walking about 1km through the jungle. View from the top is breathtaking. Great place for camping and bathing. But be careful with wild elephants and can be dangerous during rainy seasons.

Upper diyaluma is one of the most beautiful places that I have visited. Diyaluma is the second-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. You can easily access the Upper diyaluma; walking is not more than a KM. I recommend this place for camping; such a lovely place with fantastic scenery. I spent two days here with my friends. If you have time, please walk to see the small upper diyaluma waterfall with three natural pools; one is deep like hell. I highly recommend this place to backpackers.

Great area for a swim, relaxing in the sun or shade, can get a bit crowded but there is space enough to move around to get some peace and quiet. Plenty of options for swimming, jumping of the cliff from different Heights Its a bit of a walk to get there, we came from the lower part and up, but was so worth the walk

Upper Diyaluma Waterfall is one of the scenic place to visit. Have to walk around 1hour from Diyaluma waterfall to reach Upper Diyaluma. Road is only for few distance and then there is a walking trail. You dont need a guide to reach there but if you wish to camp, it is better have some advice as there have been an elephant attack recently. There is a natural pond to have a bath. Most people choose this place for camping due to beauty of the nature. There is a small waterfall also which people choose to enjoy.

It’s a really beautiful place. You can swim and jump there. The path is little complicated so the local guy went with us. We left our scooter there and paid the guy 3200 with parking. There are some leeches so be aware of that.

This was the most incredible experience. I'd seen pictures of Diyaluma waterfall and wanted to visit. I'm so glad we arranged for guide Namal to take us - he was awesome and took fantastic pictures, as well as helped me navigate the tough terrain. Overall it took around 40mins to reach the first set of pools from the parking lot (but I am slow and unsteady - but determined). The water is cold at first but then it cools you down - we were hiking at 1pm in the sun. The views are awesome once you reach the end where the cliff drops away and the water plunges over the edge. Namal showed us where to sit for great photos. I was desperate to get in the end pool for a photo, and was pleased I did. Overall a fab trip to make when you visit Sri Lanka.
