A good selection of Korean/Japanese dishes to share. You even get to cook your own chicken pieces on a gas stove!! No English menus do you have to make yourself understood by the staff (they have photos of some of the dishes) Food is good! I just wish the chicken pieces were better quality!

After more than 40 minutes of searching on internet for the perfect Izakaya for the evening we found Johkoya. With great local reviews and obviously only one bad review (from a tourist clearly not knowing that quality costs a bit more) we decided to try it out. So happy that we did! Without doubt one of the most friendly/best Izakaya’s in town. Great service, GREAT food and a great chef, in every way! Not having a english menu wasn’t a problem for us, neither the price which was absolutely not overcharged! Overall the visit was one of our absolut best Izakaya visits we did in whole of Japan. ARIGATO for a great evening! 😊✌🏾

It’s an OK place. The staff is very friendly and they try to explain things in English. The food is also good, although I have expected something else. It was a nice surprise that you have to grill your own food at little stoves at the tables, the price to pay for that was another surprise.

Frendry atmosphere and good food from north of Kyoto.

Even though it was a weekday, it was fully booked. I decided to get a call to see if a seat became available. The next day was also a weekday, so I received a call around 8pm as expected. Since it's winter, I thought I'd like to eat cold yellowtail in Miyazu (and fish from the Sea of ​​Japan side is delicious in winter), but since I didn't have time to go to Miyazu this time, I decided to eat some delicious fish from the Tango side in the city. I was looking for a restaurant where I could eat, and this one came up. They are all delicious. Kanburi is delicious, and Shirako is also delicious. All in all, it was delicious. In winter, it's all about fish. When the food is delicious, I tend to forget to take pictures. This is a store you definitely want to visit during the winter season. No, I'm interested in what kind of ingredients are available in other seasons, so even if it's not winter, I would like to come again when I come to Kyoto.

The quality of food was splendid and we enjoyed fresh seafood caught in the northern part of Kyoto prefecture.

Best food we’ve had in Kyoto! The tempura corn is incredible and the fried chicken delicious. Menu is only in Japanese but host and friendly locals helped us to a great meal. Suggest downloading a picture app beforehand just in case!

A great experience! Home made food and recipes cooked in front of us in minutes! The owner and the whole staff were very welcoming. No english menu but we just followed the recommendations of the chef: sashimi, tempura, and some specialties... we stayed at the counter with 2 more local customers (also very helpful!), a wonderful evening for us (6 persons)!
