Where to start ? First of all we had a GREAT time. Beautiful snorkeling, saw a lot of black tip sharks, so much colorful corals and fish. Cozy 6 people boat, super chill with nice bean bags, access to SUP, yummy vego food. We also met the founder, some of the fishermen and saw the 3 boats at the start of the trip. Joining a daytrip with Project Hiu is a way to see what’s really happening out of the touristy Kuta, how kind are the fishermen and to know more about their reality. Above that, it’s knowing that your money has impact and helps the community to be safer, to have access to education / fresh water and to save sharks. It’s also a way to understand shark fishing and to learn a lot about local issue. A special big thanks to captain Johan for the story telling, to Mowgli who guided us during the shark dive and was full of good energy, to Halil for the beach race and to Akmal for his smile. All the best for you and your families ! Thank you Laura also for answering to all of our questions and sharing your knowledge. Would definitely recommend it !

I had an amazing time on my trip with them!! Go on a day trip if you get the chance, we got to see baby reef sharks with ex shark fisherman and it was so special. Worth a stop in their shop even if you can’t dive, they have the coolest merch and 100% of the profits go to saving sharks. I bought as much as I could fit in my suitcase.

A business trying to actually do something good for the world, using common sense, innovation, and kindness to do it. Great people, super fun trips, all while you are doing something useful and truly employing locals and giving back to the local community. You will have an absolute blast on your day trip, for such a decent price!

Project Hiu is not just a standard snorkeling trip, they use the boats and crews of shark fishermen to present them with other options for generating income. To learn more I’d advise to Google Project Hiu. If that by itself doesn’t convince you, let me tell you something about the experience you can expect. Project Hiu is always in small groups, we were with a “large” group of 9 persons. Also we had the pleasure to be on the largest boat that Project Hiu hired so far, it was their first trip with tourists. The crew and guide from the office were amazing! They did so well and were so incredibly caring. Hats off to them. Learning about how they normally catch the sharks and how the crew actually don’t like to catch them but know no other way to provide for their families. Sitting on their boat and being part of that other way to provide for their families feels good. You don’t feel like the typical tourist just hitting highlight snorkeling spots and moving on. We went to 2 spots, the help was excellent and everything felt incredibly safe. The best thing, because you are with locals, you are not surrounded by 10 other snorkeling tour boats. It’s possible to see sharks, but it’s nature, so no guarantees. In our case we didn’t see any unfortunately, although apparently others from the group saw a baby shark. The snorkeling was fun and relaxing, but to be honest, the whole vibe with the fishermen, guide and other group members on the boat that otherwise would be out hunting sharks… it’s as authentic and peaceful as it can get. Having some fun with the crew, jumping off the boat, looking at their way of living. It’s just amazing. Project Hiu is not just a snorkeling trip, it’s so much more to experience! I don’t give 5 stars often, but before we took the scooter back to the hotel I told the guides: don’t change a thing, this was perfect! Absolutely recommend to take the tour, the sharks, fishermen and their families will thank you!!!

A small store with a big purpose ! Project hiu tries a new approach to stop shark finning: offering alternatives to the fishermen by taking tourists on snorkeling / beach / paddling trips to provide income to the shark fishers instead. Besides that, donations and merch help to pay for improvements to the island the fishermen live on. Helping their children with better education, clean water supply, English lessons... You name it. Go have a look, buy some merch (or order online if it's sold out) and consider doing a day trip to the uncharted south eastern Lombok (cheaper than a trip to pink beach and you're helping save sharks, coral reefs and improve the life of the fishermen's families) . (Have a look at their Instagram, they're doing amazing conservation work as well)

Project Hiu is an incredible experience that is truly one of a kind. You not only get the best snorkelling, with beautiful reefs and scenery....but, you also get to help fund the fisherman so they don't need to fish sharks. A unique and intelligent way of conservation. An overall fun and uplifting travel experience. I will definitely return again.

I had an amazing day with project Hiu! We went to two different bays. In the first, I saw about 7 or 8 black tip reef sharks. In the second, there was a long reef with dozens of types of fish. The fishermen who crewed the ship were amazing - they were really passionate about the project and showing us the local reef, and they had a brilliant sense of humour. I would definitely recommend a day out with Project Hiu again - it was the highlight of my time in Lombok.

We went on an amazing day trip where we snokelled with black tip reef sharks and enjoyed incredible reefs with a huge array of animals and corals. The crew were super friendly and helpful and this is genuinely a very good project, helping reduce shark fishing whilst providing the shark fishermen an alternative source of income by taking us on these trips. The crew honestly enjoy these trips and were enthusiastic about the project which was lovely to see. Even if we hadn't seen any sharks this would be one of the best snokelling trips we have been on, as you are with a small group, going to different areas to other trips so you get the reef to yourself, whislt genuinely giving back to locals. I would highly recommend going, its an amazing experience, with amazing people. Also their merch is really cool so make sure you have a look in the shop.

I participated in a week long trip with Project Hiu and it was one of the most special experiences I’ve ever taken part in. Three days of the week are dedicated to participating in ecotourism with a crew of shark fishermen. They know Lombok’s waters better than anyone, so they take you to the best snorkel spots (free of other tourists) and are really amazing at finding and pointing out wildlife. The fishermen will truly become your best friends; they are some of the friendliest, most caring humans I have ever met. One day of the trip we visited the shark fishing market and got in depth education on the fin trade from Pip; this experience was extremely eye opening and allows you to see firsthand what your money is going towards preventing. Another day of the trip involved visiting the fishermen’s village for a day, meeting their lovely families and seeing the impact that Project Hiu has made on their community. I highly highly recommend participating in a week long trip if you can. This trip is unique, empowering, educational, fun, and unforgettable. Huge thank you to Pip and the Project Hiu team for making it happen :)

I've been on the trip twice now, and will go again! It's such a relaxed day - chilling on the boat, listening to great tunes, meeting new people. Unlike other tours, it's quite small and there's no set schedule so you can take your time in each snorkelling spot. Obi, Mogely and the crew are super fun! They have so much energy and took us to some amazing places, pointed out cute baby sharks. At one of the spots we saw the most beautiful spotted eagle ray and swam with her for 20 mins... incredible. We chilled on the deck of the boat, ate noodles, jumped off the boat like 200 times, stand up paddle boarded. Big thanks to our host Madison who has great energy and is so helpful. She took some gorgeous pictures of us while we snorkelled.

It was great to meet and spend time with Madison Stewart(aka Shark Girl or Pippy) one of my diving idols, brains behind Project Hiu and leader of the Nov week trip I did. Project Hiu trips are more than snorkeling and water sports in a tropical paradise with spectacular reefs. You are introduced into the complexities of the shark fin trade which is harsh and perilous for the fishermen born into it. You get to discover these same fisherman are funny, gentle, playful and welcoming you into their community. It’s a privilege to witness Project Hiu at work, both on the water and in the fishermen’s island village. No review can do this trip justice, just do it!

I have spent the last 2 weeks with project Hiu, they have opened my eyes to a whole new perspective about shark conservation, the organization works close with the community, hiring Shark Fisherman and their Boats for tours, giving the fishermen a safer way of earning an income for them and their family's. They also know an awesome snorkelling spot where you can find all kinds of Sealife, especially sharks. A big thank you to Pippy, Tory, and all the crew members for your time and for the unforgettable memories. Hope to see you all again soon.

Project Hiu offered an incredible experience in which I will never forget. The coral reef they took me to was absolutely stunning and had the most beautiful species of fish . The crew members were great to talk too on the trip over and overall offered a very comfortable experience. It also was great to know that the proceeds would go towards helping the community on Maringkik Island.
