It may be noted that nobody calls on the hospital for 'time pass' or fun and especially so the ICU. If the ICU phone number has been lent by the staff with the assurance that we can call to check on the patient, it means it must be answered. This morning when I called the hospital to enquire about my relative who has had an open heart surgery, the nurse at the other end was extremely rude saying we are very busy and we cant answer your question etc. she was shouting on top of her voice. While we understand the stressful nature of her work which is part of the duty she has signed up for, it is extremely rude and insensitive to be talking in that tone. Even if there was a confidentiality code where the patient info isn't to be divulged the same could be communicated politely. The disrespect with which the nurse answered and threated that "go and complain" isn't befitting to the profession. The anguish of those waiting to know the well being of their loved ones inside cannot be chided this way. Hope the management will take cognizance of this matter and do the needful.
