The
Arab
Planning
Institute
is
an
independent,
regional,
non-profit
Arab
organization
based
in
the
State
of
Kuwait.
It
was
established
in
1980
and
aims
to
support
economic
and
social
development
in
the
Arab
countries
through
building
local
capabilities,
preparing
research,
providing
advisory
services
and
institutional
support,
holding
development

and
publishing,

the

History
and
local
origins:
In
1966,
the
Government
of
the
State
of
Kuwait,
in
cooperation
with
the
United
Nations
Development
Programme,
established
the
Kuwait
Institute
for
Economic
and
Social
Planning
in
the
Middle
East
as
an
independent
Kuwaiti
institution,
in
accordance
with
the
agreement
concluded
at
that
time
between
the
Government
of
Kuwait
and
the
United
Nations
Program
during
the
first
five
years
of
its
establishment.
At
the
end
of
this
period,
the
Institute
was
transformed
into
In
1972,
it
was
established
as
an
independent
Arab
institution
and
was
called
the
“Arab
Planning
Institute
in
Kuwait.”
It
was
agreed
that
the
role
of
the
United
Nations
would
be
limited
to
contributing
for
a
period
of
five
years
in
providing
a
number
of
international
experts
in
addition
to
a
number
of
scholarships.
