Shish
Kabob
a
week
ago
while
at
IBC
shipyard
in
Casa
De
Campo.
Realizing
I’ll
be
here
for
about
8/10
weeks
I
quickly
realized
I
needed
to
sort
out
my
dining
routine.
Jumping
online
I
set
up
my
criteria
as
Chinese
and
Middle
Eastern
cuisine
(happens
to
be
my
heritage)
and
hit
search.
Shish
Kabab
was
the
first
and
most
highly
rated
option
to
appear.
First
chance
I
had
I
took
the
12
minute
ride
over
from
Casa
De
Campo.
Couldn’t
have
made
a
better
decision.
The
restaurant
is
easy
to
find,
in
a
busy
area
when
you
first
drive
into
town.
They
have
a
private,
security
patrolled
parking
lot
adjacent
to
the
building
and
ample
seating
for
small
and
large
groups.
They
have
a
spacious
veranda
out
front
with
grapevines
heavy
with
fruit
running
across
the
facade.
When
ripe
they
harvest
these
for
dishes
they
serve.
Stepping
in,
the
dining
room
is
expansive,
clean
and
elegantly
decorated.
The
two
times
I’ve
visited
I
was
sat
almost
immediately.
They
have
both
English
and
Spanish
menus
and
a
well
stocked
bar.
I
ordered
the
Kipe
appetizer
and
the
Mixto
Kebabs
with
rice
and
beans.
The
Kipe
arrived
piping
hot
and
incredibly
savory
(I
ordered
the
lamb.)
The
kebabs
which
were
chicken,
beef
and
lamb
were
incredibly
tender
and
lightly
spiced.
I
think
next
time
I’ll
ask
for
a
bit
of
heavier
seasoning
but
they
were
delicious.
I
had
a
sort
of
honey
pound
cake
for
dessert
which
was
also
quite
tasty
but
I
can’t
recall
its
name.
While
I
was
dining
a
very
charming
lady
named
Victoria
visited
my
table
to
check
on
my
meal
and
we
struck
up
a
conversation.
As
it
turns
out
her
family
founded
the
restaurant
generations
ago
after
immigrating
from
Palestine.
Although
it’s
evolved
over
time
they
can
still
be
found
proudly
operating
what’s
become
a
landmark
in
La
Romana.
Victoria
was
incredibly
gracious
and
shared
some
great
recommendations
for
other
dining
venues
and
local
places
of
interest.
As
I
was
leaving
she
mentioned
that
they
sometimes
offer
unique
off
menu
items
on
Sundays
and
I
asked
if
they
might
prepare
Biryani,
an
Arab
delicacy
composed
of
lamb
cooked
with
rice,
vegetables
and
fruit,
served
with
yogurt
as
a
garnish.
She
surprised
me
when
she
said
she’d
have
it
prepared
for
me
the
following
Sunday
and
asked
what
time
would
work
best.
I
asked
if
4
would
work
and
she
assured
me
it
would.
I
returned
a
little
after
4
on
Sunday
and
sure
enough
it
was
waiting
for
me.
I
really
can’t
express
how
this
consideration
made
my
day.
The
food
was
delectable.
The
subtle
spices
and
tender
lamb,
perfectly
prepared
with
layers
of
vegetables
and
fruit
was
absolutely
perfect.
I
even
ordered
some
goat
stew
to
go.
Which
also
didn’t
disappoint.
This
middle
eastern
outpost,
so
well
curated
and
incredibly
popular,
on
an
island
where
you’d
be
surprised
to
find
it
has
made
my
prolonged
stay
only
that
much
more
inviting.
I’m
eager
to
return
for
the
shawarma
😋
