Amazing beach in the southern province of Sri Lanka. Unawatuna beach is very famous among tourists from all over the world. This beach has restaurant, cafe and many beach activities. It is popular as a family friendly area. There are shallow water levels that are especially suitable for swimming. At the west end of the beach you can walk over some rocks and steps to a small hill with a pagoda and a large Buddha statue. It is a beautiful view over the beach. Visiting Unawatuna Beach can make your vacation very enjoyable.

Now there are not many tourists and people, because of COVID 19. The beach is clean. Waves are medium. You can find coral reef on the east side of the beach. But when there are high waves it's not easy to see something because of the sand. It's better to arrange the trip to the rock for better snorkeling. In the central part of the beach it's rather safe to swim with kids because there is no rocks, just sand. But sometimes there can be small pieces of corals.

Very crowded beach. For me it was not so attractive because i like peaceful and calm places. There are shops everywhere. It’s a commercial place. If you like that kind of full of people environment, it’s good for you. Just not my piece of cake. Anyway the ocean is nice to watch and beach is obviously beautiful . Enjoy your trip in sri lanka.

Unawatuna is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Sri Lanka and is the most β€œfamous” beach in the country. It is a lovely banana-shaped beach of golden sand and turquoise water, surrounded by green palm trees! It was the first beach we visited in Sri Lanka. We chose not to stay at one of the fancy and expensive hotels along the beach of Unawatuna, but a few kilometers away at a guesthouse. We walked to the Unawatuna Beach on two separate day trips. The beach is popular with tourists, and part of the beach is occupied with sunbeds for rent. In the afternoons, Sri Lankan families come to the beach to enjoy some swimming in the sun. At the west end of the beach, there are some rocks and stairs that lead up to a small hill with a pagoda and a big Buddha statue. It’s a nice little walk with a beautiful view overlooking the beach. Unfortunately, Unawatuna is not all paradise. The place was devastated by the tsunami in 2004, and the rebuilding was done in a hurry and many of the owners rebuilt their hotels and restaurants on the actual sand. The result is that half the beach is gone, and there is actually not that much sand left to play on. ItΒ΄s a shame. Behind the beach, in between palm trees, is Unawatuna center. It is basically one street full of small nice restaurants and shops selling souvenirs, clothes, water, jewelry and so on. Unawatuna Beach is really beautiful, with great swimming, and I hope to going back to enjoying that beauty again.

Best beach for swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ. Prefer morning 7 to 11 and evening 4 to 6. Cold than other beaches in Galle. Do visit through the Road side to get different experience.

Nice and clean beach. The entrance in the sea is a little bit tricky because it gets deep very very fast. Decent waves, good view You can rent a boat to do snorkeling

Beautiful beach not far from Galle. If you are staying Unawatuna or Galle, this the best beach to enjoy the sunbathing!! The water is blue and deep to swim. But sometime, the water can be rough. I still liked though when I was floating along the waves.

The beach is fantastic and full of life. Just remember that the waves could be a little bit heavy. It's a bit challenging to call it my favorite beach when Sri Lanka has so many other amazing beaches to offer.

A beautiful spread of clean coastal line with calm waves at day time. Suitable for bathing. There's a Buddhist temple at one end covered with rocks at the bottom which gives a good view of the bay.

I recently visited this beach, and it was an incredibly fun experience. The beach is perfect for swimming, though it can get a bit crowded at times. What sets it apart are the additional activities available, such as boat rides and snorkeling, making it one of the best beaches in the southern area. Highly recommended for a great day by the sea.
