I remember coming here as a kid 30 years ago when it was opened and the experience awed me to learn about space exploration. Today, it is sad to see that the place is under maintained although I could see some efforts to renovate the place. The exhibits themselves aren't really updated to the latest space explorations but for first timers, I think they will learn something. Entrance to the planetarium is free but if you would like to watch the timed shows, you have to pay. I think it's better to charge an entrance fee to ensure there is some funds to maintain the place. When we went on Jan 2022, the toilets inside where closed and the only closest toilet is outside and limited in capacity.

Visited here on 24th dec and I’m really disappointed. 1. The theatre which is the main attraction not operating and they only mention when we were there. I asked the counter when will the theatre back in operation he answered me “maybe January maybe February.” 2. A lot of the things broke down due to vandalism. Buttons mostly for decoration. 3. Counter doesn’t accept card payment or e wallet, they only accept cash for the space pod ride. 4. The videos for explanation are in Bahasa, no English. 5. The descriptions are in Bahasa, English words are quite small. 6. It was raining heavily and the guard doesn’t allow the grab to pick us from the main entrance. We needed to walk from top entrance to bottom under heavy rain, we were fully drenched, soaked in heavy rain. If it’s just me that’s okay but I was with a kid drenched walking to guard house just so the grab can pick us up. Why can’t the management be more considerate? Heavy rain like this and they don’t allow the grab to enter to pick us up? If so, build shades area so people can be in the covered area when it’s raining. We are so disappointed. The fun thing was only the space pod but it doesn’t worth the wait. We bought ticket for the space pod and sat there for 2 hours to our time slot. The ticket is only available at the counter which only accepts cash.

Glad I made the decision to visit the planetarium. Took the MRT to National Museum and walked up to the planetarium. Just in time to attend the 1100 am show. Very educational environment.

Finally reopened once again! Definitely worth a visit for anyone with children or students of any age, unfortunately some exhibits were closed but the theater is open and worth the small extra fee, especially since admission to the planetarium is free.

U can spend 2 hours here; 5minutes for the pod & 30minutes for the show, the rest of the time to explore n the place is not big. Part of the mezzanine floor is closed during my visit in november 2023. Take note that pod &show must be purchased using CASH only. The queue to purchase tickets is slow because it is manual ticketing. No fret if u have no cash, because the entrance is free. I spent 3 hours here; because our available pod slot is 11am, a available movie slot is 12pm. Left the place at 12:30pm.

It's quite sad to see this place closed down with no further notice on reopening. It's in a state of derelict and in need of proper maintenance (as it was built back in 1994).

Those who do not like to drive or do not have cars, as long as you know how to call Grab car, or if you like to walk like how I do all the time, then you just take KTM to reach the main Kuala Lumpur station. Then, you use the walk-way underground tunnel to walk opposite the train station. After that, you just follow your GPS and you will be able to reach this Museum Planetarium. Opposite this Museum Planetarium, it is Museum Royal Police of Malaysia, which you should go and see. Then, if you have extra time, you can also go to the world largest bird park and butterfly park to have a look. Museum Planetarium and Museum Police are free entrance. Bird park and butterfly park need RM35 and RM16 per entry. These fees are for local adults. Foreigners need to pay a bit more for the tickets. For Museum Planetarium, even though it is free entry, for theatre show, you will need to pay RM6 for about 30 minutes documentary show, which I personally think that it is worth to pay for it. In year 1996, I went to the Museum Planetarium in California. Even though this Museum Planetarium is smaller than the one in California, it is good enough to bring your kids to explore. 在此我不想用中文多写,我希望你们能读懂以上简浅的英文解说。我鼓励大家来这里看看。凡是带有教育性质的地方,都是值得来参观与学习的。

A bit rundown with some sections closed for maintenance. Suitable for a quick tour with small kids but don't expect much. The short documentary in the auditorium will be nice for the kids as well so if you're visiting, make sure you buy tickets for this. The place has much potential, with adequate funding, the upgrading work will be beneficial to draw in more visitors.

The Planetarium was a great educational, free attraction. We went on a weekend during the day and it was almost deserted! They had enough exhibitions to keep you entertained for a couple of hours, and there were several paid for exhibitions available, however we did not visit these. We walked to the Planetarium following a visit to the Botanical Gardens and Butterfly Park as they are all in the same area. It was very informative whilst also being interesting for kids so that both adults and children can enjoy it. If you don't have something to do in KL then I definitely suggest visiting the Planetarium.

Saw a few updates since last time I came here. A minor improvement. But still need to have a major rework, for still most of the exhibitions are still old and not that diverse (in my point of view). However when I came here, the observation tower was closed. Overall I really enjoyed it. My wife loves it too. And we really enjoyed the movie though. Entering the exhibition are free. But if you want to watch the movie (the movie which are been projected at the dome, so that you have like a superwide screen), you need to pay RM6 for adult with MyKad. Unfortunately I forgot to take the picture of the rates.

I visited this place just to get back to those childhood days where every year we would be taken to some places where we could experience science in one or the other way. I was lucky enough to be watch one of the movie in there. The place was filled with children and I for sure enjoyed being there completely.

During this times, it closed. Even fountain also dried-up to save water & electricity, I think?🤔 So far, this is the best planetarium that attracted most kids wanted to come here. I still remembered there is a space theatre and a lot of things related to science and astronomy. Worth to visit and entrance is free at that times. For tourists, best way to come here is by the bridge links from Muzium Negara or using MRT Muzium station or thru Sentral station instead of front entrance Perdana Botanical garden thru Dataran Merdeka. Because you need to walk all the ways up the hill to here unless you willing to wait for the caddy tour. But from here, you either go back to Muzium or walking down to the lake.

I thought visiting the Planetarium supposed to bring more interest and excitement about the our solar system for my kids. But to my dissappointment, this place is a bit run down and old. The upper floor was closed too.The only worthy visit was to the space theather. The space pod is definitely not recommended. 2 person pay to sit inside an enclosed area and got swinged around in 360 degrees for around 10 minutes. The wierd thing was the screen in front of you displaying 3d roller coaster video while you were upside down in the pod. No wonder nobody play the space pod except us. Not worth paying for this.

If you're really into science, then you might wanna visit this place. It's an interesting place but you might only need to spend (at most) half a day here. However, I would definitely recommend the management to maintain the place to attract more tourists there.

The first time, when I get to know about this place. I am excited about this place. However, during my first visit, it’s a big disappointment to me in few areas. As this is the only planetarium place in Malaysia, it was not maintain well. At least for me, I won’t be going there for second time. It’s kinda of waste of time.

If you see it from outside, you have seen the best of it. Very little information, took me 30min to read it through. Interactive means here to turn on or off lights. Staff quite bored playing on their phone. Many things on "renovation", so closed. Didn't go to a show, because we couldn't stand to wait another 30min for it. At least going there is free of charge. Shows must be paid extra.

I went here earlier today. I went to the space theatre and the space pod. The space pod was my favourite. It goes 360 just like a real rollercoaster. I arrived there at 3.20pm. I arrived late and didn't explore much. But yeah cool place to go to. Totally recommend

part of the area are closed for construction, no restaurant, and no nearby prayer room, since the existing prayer room is closed due to construction. suggested to bring some snacks for kids to eat before enter the building. despite that, this place is very good to visit with kids. got new corner for mars rover robot and the best thing is u can control it by urself! the entry fee is free, only charged if u want to watch the short movie.

Nothing much to write about this place. Good for one time visit if you have kids. They might like it. If you haven't seen any planetarium, you might like it. Key attractions: 1) Movie ; 2) Anti gravity zone; 2) Colour changing planet kiosk; 4) Free parking....

The building itself is beautiful, lots of stairs to climb :) there's a entrance fee to the planetarium - lots of activities especially for kids but interesting enough also for adults. See also the Stonehenge, the sundial, and the other places around it which don't require any entrance fee and look nice and interesting. Many other attractions around it in walking distance. Check your map.

Our visit was on Saturday 8th of August, arrived just after 11am. Still a few available car park spaces right next to the centre, after passing the main guardhouse at the bottom of the main gateway. Didn’t look very imposing from the exterior, it showed its age. Pleasantly surprised that it was free entry! Cold breeze of air conditioning greeted us which provided great comfort for us to enjoy the exhibits. The anti-gravity room gave our family a good (laugh) and experience. The life in space exhibits were captivating: we tried on being zipped up in a space sleeping bag and pretended to fly the Soyuz Capsule (almost fully reclined!). As both of mine didn’t grow up in Malaysia, it was an extremely proud Malaysian moment when we got to the First Malaysian in Space exhibits; explaining the selection process and the outcome of the entire endeavour. We completed the tour in about two hours, and saw the Space Pod ride near the exit. The extremely kind officer at the ticketing counter allowed my kids to have a go, even though the session was already full (only 3 sessions per hour for e.g. 1000, 1020, 1040 and so forth, as the team thoroughly sanitises the pod after each session). It was a great visit for our family, and we are already eyeing the Museum Of Police nearby, for our next trip in KL.

Lol. Maybe it's not so fun to visit as an adult. Nothing much to see and the knowledge there is very basic, no wow factor. It's a bit weird they put more emphasis on space exploration/technology than astronomy/cosmology. I went there expecting to learn about stars and different galaxies but ended up seeing an Arduino model of Curiosity. The place is self is pretty tiny, basically you can finish it under 1 hour. There's a simulator machine where you can sit inside but it's kind of like riding on a 360° roller coaster. Very "meh" place.

Anti gravity room under maintenance. There was a musty smell. Exhibits are okay. Short movies are nice if you have kids. Admission is free except for Space Pod and Theatre. If you are going for the Space Pod (spaceship simulator), make sure you take note of the longer break on Fridays (12-3pm) where it is not available. Theatre with a dome-shaped screen was the highlight (check showtimes at the entrance, should have one every hour). Anti-gravity room was a hit among kids. Other than that, the exhibits and interactive installations were not exactly engaging and can seem a bit dated. Went on a Friday so street parking was abundant around the compound, but may get challenging during weekends.

The national planetarium exhibit is called Planetarium Negara (National Planetarium). Interesting but not particularly impressive due to Malaysia's lack of significant aerospace growth. One to two hours may be spent visiting and studying. The Royal Malaysia Police Museum, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, and the KL Bird Park are all within 5 minutes of one another on foot, making them worthwhile stops. A 10-minute walk also linked the pedestrian bridge behind the National Museum.

  • 3/5 Edel S. 4 years ago on Google
Haven't really been inside the planetarium because I just happen to pass by on the way to the bird park. But there are several paths outside where one can see different kinds of ancient edifice related to astronomy which was used hundreds / thousands of years ago. It is quite fun and educational to walk these paths, learn something while taking phitos.

(Translated by Google) many tools are damaged and not well maintained. It is a shame when tourists come to see this place is not quite uptodate .. the name of the country's planetarium is not as proud as its name. Going up the level of parts of the planet is also quite poor. Hope the ministry distributes the budget for this planetarium. Instead of making a budget to compensate for smoking to millions but the place of knowledge also needs to be improved for the well-being of our next generation. Can take the closest example which is Petrosains. Very sophisticated! It does not matter how much the promised price is in line with the experience and knowledge they gain. My kids and toddlers love it. There is also a spacepod ok best. Need improvise game jugak. Cheap ticket prices along with the experience you can get. Overall ok2! My kids and toddlers suka. Ada spacepod pun ok best. Need improvise game jugak. Harga tiket murah seiring dengan pwngalaman yang dapat. Overall ok2!

Informative, interesting, fun-filled and beautiful place,I would recommend every kid to visit and spend some time to learn more about space station and technology, My family love the short video clips playing on ground floor about the life of space station and how the peoples are living in 0% gravity, I think the planetarium should be more wheelchair friendly, because now just the few areas are #wheelchair accessible, The exterior design is just amazing and the surrounding areas are beautiful, This is #familyfriendly place so some more restaurants or cafes needed, The ground floor entrance is free for every one but for space show ,have to pay for tickets, which is different for locals and foreigners,

the entrance to the gallery was free but you need to pay for the spacepod and show. however, many exhibits in the gallery were faulty. spacepod was suitable for child with at least 100cm. not recommended for elderly. there were different sessions for the shows.

Gosh, the place is horrible. I learn nothing in my 30 minutes there. Half the things are damage and not working, the "movie" I get to enjoy is about the achievement of seeing the sun in 3D via Stereo. An achievement done at 2007...

Fun and interesting for all ages. However, a weird push on religion that didn’t need to be there.

It's a bit run-down since not many tours go there but it's a nice free exhibit.

Planetarium Negara is the national planetarium of Malaysia. This place gives us knowledge for kids and adults equally regarding gravitational force, space craft and how humans are managing in the space craft while traveling. I could enter in the gravity room and experience it.

Other than that, many of you may not know that there’s actually a planetarium right in KL city itself! Yes, you got that right. This is a place where you can explore the infinite space and stars on land. Enjoy “out of this world” space shows at their huge space theater or ancient replicas at the space theme park. Best of all, it’s free admissions for all!

It is one of Malaysian government to introduce to people about the astronomy. However, this place needs an modification in terms of deco, new content and other attraction to attract people especially young kids. although it is free, many material are broke and too old to exhibit. Besides, many place were close likes Observatory hall and space theatre due to covid-19 pandemic.

entrance to exhibition is free but a lil bit devastating since many parts were closed due to maintenance…should be improved more to attract more people after this

Went to this place with my 2 kids. Place a bit run down. Few of the interactive machines are under maintenance . The movie show is interesting but a bit too dark and blurry for my liking.

It's an amazing place to visit but if you're planning on bringing toddlers, it might defeat the purpose of your visit

Not worth it to learn about space and science. The exhibition is limited, small and most of them are not well updated. They look like theyre in their saddest state, good thing the entrance its free. I look forward to any future updates.

We sent a Malaysian to space and yet we allow this kind of place to exist. The place is run down, dark, damp and mouldy with buckets all over the floor. Very sad indeed.

Entrance is free. That's the only plus I would say. Poorly maintained place, the ceiling was leaking and they had buckets to catch the leaks! The place smelled musty. Most of the exhibits were either damaged or faulty. Not worth trip for me.
