I admitted myself to the emergency room about a month ago for severe upper abdomen pain. The doctor was not very helpful, the nurses could not get an IV in my arm in 3 tries, and the other staff was very slow. This whole experience was for me to get a CT scan, and then be told that nothing was wrong with me (I later figured out that it was a gall bladder issue), and then to have 5 different bills come in for the work done. INCLUDING multiple bills for the same services. I received 2 bills for the CT scan: one from the hospital and one from an outsource imaging company. I asked multiple times for pricing on the treatments since I was going to self-pay and was ignored and lied to my face. Unfortunately the bottom line: they are not interested in helping here, they are interested in emptying pockets and moving on. I am currently in a battle with the billing companies as they are trying to charge me over $6,000 for 20 minutes with the doctor and 20 minutes for a CT scan. And with NO diagnosis. I highly suggest you look into the "good faith estimates" that the federal government are trying to implement. This is a good start to a policy that will hopefully keep these people accountable. Good luck if you come here. You will need it.

My medical needs were met very slowly on Saturday when I went to the ER. I checked in at approximately 3:30PM. The process was friendly and quick. When I was put in a room I was given a shot for pain and asked for a urine specimen. One hour later a nurse came in to check on me. The pain meds had not worked so they gave me another shot. Approximately THREE hours later I finally saw a doctor, given a diagnosis and released. Then the nurse came into my room, took out my IV put a piece of cotton on my arm, said "Hold this" and left the room. 20 minutes later I searched the room myself with my husband and we found some tape to put on my own bandage!!!! We finally left the hospital at 7:30. I realize this was the weekend and I know I was not a high priority case but the ER was not busy and this whole process was too long and in my own opinion unacceptable. And when I left my room the urine specimen was STILL SITTING ON THE TABLE. i wonder what they did with it?

We waited over 8 hours to be taken care off. Ultrasound took so long, and results took even longer. When the ultrasound tech came in the room she stated she was never even paged. Although they told us they paged them the moment we got in the room. And we got the excuse of “it’s a holiday weekend” they didn’t treat anything nor give any good medical advice. This is horrible, you could be on the verge of death & waiting to be taken care off. Having a holiday weekend is not an excuse for someone to sit here and be in pain and wait over 8 hours. And guess what? We still have to pay the bill. Horrible, horrible pt care.

Is it weird that I almost hope I'm not feeling better in a few days and have to go back to St Joseph as instructed? That's how well I was cared for last night. From the front desk reception staff to the nurse who took my vitals to the nurse who put my IV in to the guy who wheeled me to and from my cat scan to the cat scan technician to my main nurse Maria who kept checking on me, every single person was very kind and friendly. I was lucky that when I went in at 5pm on a Tuesday it was very quiet and not too busy at all, didnt even have time to finish my paperwork in the lobby before I was called back. Everything is clean and nice and peaceful. At the very mention of starting to feel a little chilly a heated blanket was immediately given to me. I was there 3 hours max and it didn't even feel very long at all. Absolutely zero complaints, my experience here was top notch, highly recommend going to St. Joseph in case of emergency!! Thank you all for your wonderful care, it made a huge difference.

Visited the emergency room and was completely misdiagnosed (for an extremely high price, of course). There were many disappointing aspects of my visit, the biggest being that they didn’t take the time to look closely at my scans and just made quick assumptions. Extremely frustrating.

At the beginning of my visit I would've given this hospital 4 or 5 stars. I came in with a kidney stone and they put me in a room with an IV right away and gave me pain medication. But then they moved me up to a regular hospital floor and wouldn't let me leave even after I passed the stone. It felt like every hour they'd come up with new reasons why I couldn't leave, saying I needed certain tests and to talk to random doctors that really had nothing of importance to say. In the end they kept me in the hospital for 30 hours, even though my stone passed after 6. I'm sure my bill will now be extravagant.

Great people but a bit low tech Missed giving me my pain Iv meds on the way out , was waiting so long for them to follow up but just took the discharge papers asap and dealt I noticed they seemed not so busy but disorganized. Doctors and med staff were great bed side manner so looks like just an operational improvement could go a long way here

Overall my experience was good in the Emergency room. Staff was friendly and understanding, with the exception of one doctor. Dr. Parr was rude and disrespectful, she had no bedside manner/etiquette. She came in to ask me what was going on; I began to explain my symptoms and she started walking out as I was still talking. Terrible way to treat a patient.

The ER Nurse is not what I had know to appreciate in over 30+ years that I have been a patient! I've read some reviews and totally agreed with the professional manner or should I say non professional manner presented during attempts for an IV. Presenting with an attitude of what I perceived as" oh well let me do what I have to do" manner as the nurse began to stab into my arm 2x after initially being told that I was a hard draw. Usually I'm asked " where do they usually go". And when asked what the blood draw was for no explanation- not even I can check with the doctor! This is the 2nd terrible experience that I have had with ER the 1st being in 2018 when a neighbor carried me through the doors marked only for ambulance when I was having symptoms of a heart attack! Asking how did you get in this door! Never mind I was dx with a 95% blockage of a main artery!

So you never want a reason to be at the ER but I had the joy of needing an urgent CT Scan and St Joseph was an excellent experience from start to finish, on a holiday no less. I was admitted nearly immediately, and my doctor was very helpful, communicative and efficient in identifying what the heck was wrong with me. The whole hospital was spotless and everyone I interacted with was kind and knowledgeable. Really hope I don’t need to go running back to the ER but if I ever do, I’m coming here over the madhouse at Northwestern.

Went to the ER room for breathing issue and while I was filling up the forms, I asked the front desk how much my copay will be. They took a look at my insurance card and said it will be $1000. After hearing that, I decided to go to a urgent care instead. One month later, I received a bill from the hospital asking $129 for emergency room visit. I don’t know how their billing system works, but send out a bill to people who didn’t even get checked is ridiculous!

I waited 6 hours to be treated, which is understandable. It’s busy. However, I had to repeatedly request for my specific treatment. I also never, not once, get seen by an attending, nor get a full evaluation. I will get that bill in the mail though. This is unacceptable care.

My Primary care Physician there is extremely knowledgeable & caring, dedicated. He recently pulled out the stops, and arranged for me to have an emergency CT to fund the source of my difficulty. The Staff in the ER were very helpful, efficient and cordial. Made what could have been a more difficult process as smooth as possible. The amenities in the ER were excellent. I got the answers to my painful problem & and the plans for continued care quickly, & will go forward with the Care plan in a timely manner- in all, I received timely and Speedy help with a Painful problem, Thanks to my Doctor & the Staff & the Resources at St Joseph’s Hospital, and God’s Help.

Not assertive, woke, Millenial, weak, did nothing even though I'm in horrible health and have been for three months with a major health condition. Not a real doctor's office.

I can’t say enough about Dr Meghan Sthulak. She goes above and beyond and I have been treated by her over the years. She saw me when I was not at my best. I’m in recovery and doing great. She recognized that I’m doing better and told me so. It was a very comforting feeling and makes me want to continue recovery.

Got a bed in 20 minutes. Thanks, St Joe’s hospital! Had a good time joking with nurses, PA, & techs; shoutout to Emily x2, Gabby, & Aaron.

This was not my first experience in life of going to an ER, but it was definitely my best experience. From the time I left my home, checking, X-rays, discharge, pickup scripts at cvs and home was less than 3 hours. Awesome care and service. I arrived in severe pain which they addressed immediately.

Excellent service Emily, and the team was great. Thank you so much. And I need a CT scan. They were just great I like coming to St Joe's they get you in and out. You're not waiting all day. Clean hospital.

The ER team who took care of me was, in my opinion, highly skilled and incredibly kind. Kindness means everything when you are in the ER and scared. Wait times were reasonable and security was excellent. I was treated with respect and felt included in my care. I would highly recommend them if you have an emergency situation.

came to the hospital because my children are concerned about me. I thought I was drinking alcohol. I got there and everyone was very kind and set me up to an IV and then in short time sent me home because there was no alcohol in my body. however I would have some concerns about panic attacks and therefore I and get some help. I’m glad I did that and I’m getting the help that I need and I appreciate the help of the times and talented doctors and nurses. Thank you again Kathleen Lawlor.

Went in with back spasms. Left with back spasms , got some muscle relaxers, and the smallest shot of morphine. Was there at a 10 on pain scale and their pain management was mediocre at best, Basically enough medication so I could stand and leave. Not terrible care but not great either.

Avoid this hospital at all costs medical staff rude and unprofessional. I called to see what the wait time would be to be seen as I was driving a friend who was in an unbearable amount of pain. The first person I spoke to was a man literally said "were buy and the wait time is long" with an attitude and hung up on me. Called back a second time spoke to a women this time and I explained to her what happened and all she said was "okay and". I told her "and that was really unprofessional" She states that they are not allowed to give out wait times. I said okay then that's all he had to tell me I completly understand that. She fake apologized no cincerity in her voice. Went to Masonic wait was 5+ hours when we got there bur at least the medical staff was kind.

Nice care and the doctor explained my problem clearly so they understood my problem and addressed it properly. My only issue was they were aware I was in immense pain and it took longer than I expected for them to bring me the drugs I needed as I sat there in agony.

Every person I came in contact with was beyond helpful and caring. The nurses were very sensitive when I told them about my anxiety disorder and really took the time to explain everything going on to make sure I felt comfortable. I’ve had some really negative experiences at other health facilities in Chicago, but Ascension is now going to be my go to for any emergency needs. Thank you to the whole team there, I so appreciate the amazing care I received.

Emergency Room - Everyone was wonderful. As soon as we arrived security directed us to the waiting room. The person who handled my dad's registration was very polite. My dad received an EKG and CT scan and the technicians were very professional and made my father feel comfortable. Even the transporter was terrific. Thank you for your quick attention and kindness.

Completely incompetent. Loses appointment schedules. Messed up my discharge instruction. Would not trust them with a toothbrush let alone someone’s health.

I work in emergency medicine . Never in my 10 years experience has it taken 5 hours to review two radiographs . At this point I’m expecting the need for the radiologist to complete his degree before we amount to simple resolutions.

😠 The doctor was really nice but the nurse staff and front desk staff have no idea what they're doing. 👍👍 I’m actually flabbergasted at how incredible of an experience this was for me. This is the absolute first time I had a covid test of any kind. So I was already apprehensive as I was going in. I didn’t know what to expect. Then, to find that it was self administered. I got slightly more anxious. That...
