We walked in for dinner Friday night and they had space for us. It was a little chilly on the patio so they brought us blankets which was thoughtful! I felt warm and toasty with it. The food was AMAZING. I loved every bite. We had apps, meals and desserts and would definitely come eat here again. A busker was nearby with some Jazz which was nice too.

Came highly recommended and lived up to the hype. The food was absolutely phenomenal. If you're ordering the shrimp or scallop appetizers, ask for some bread on the side to soak up that leftover sauce. It's criminal to throw that away. The staff were very friendly, chatty and attentive. Because of their location on the waterfront, their patio is right up on the boardwalk, so if you're looking to enjoy your meal without people constantly walking by you, I recommend eating indoors. Overall a great place that I will recommend to anyone visiting Halifax.

We visited The Bicycle Thief a couple of weeks ago and, it was great. We had an assortment of appetizers and several cocktails and, everything was simply delicious. The portions were quite reasonable and enough to share a few bites between three. Also, the service was very friendly and diligent. They offered great recommendations and took the time to chitchat a bit as well. We sat outside, near the parking lot but, the ambiance was still good. However, inside it seemed pretty cool as well.

It's ridiculous how good this place is. We went for lunch as a group of 4 and had a great experience. Honestly, every single meal was delicious, but some of my favorites were by far the Salmon Pistachio, the Seared Scallops and the Lobster Linguine. Oh and for desert, the Brown Butter & Bourbon gelato was excellent. The staff was super friendly and even helped us with some local recommendations for what to do next in town. Overall, this restaurant is a very strong recommend if you are in Halifax.

Excellent Italian food. We got the beef tartare which was quite tasty and the calamari which was light, airy, and perfectly cooked. The lobster linguine was excellent and the scallop risotto was very rich though maybe a tad on the salty side. Cocktails and wine selection were great too! Loved the patio atmosphere though it can be a bit chilly - they provide blankets but for colder evenings a heater would be nice!

TL;DR : One of the best waterfront dining experiences. Arrived on Saturday for lunch and was able to sit on the patio (sit outside if you can! The boardwalk offers great views and people/dog watching). Exceptional service. House made focaccia arrived complimentary and it was very tasty. The seared scallops will be the best thing you’ve ever put in your mouth. Lobster roll was tasty, but small portion. Lunch menu is a little more cost effective than their dinner menu. Would definitely come back and try their pastas! (It has an Italian soul after all) August 2022

Very good food. This is fine dining at its finest. The service matches the food, both excellent. My mom had an issue with her pasta, they whipped up another one super quick. Second time around it was just perfect. Everything else that came out was flawless. Their beef short rib was to die for and the risotto with scallops was divine. Can't wait to go again when I'm back in Halifax!

I have had the pleasure of eating here about 6 times over the past few years, some lunch some dinners winter and summer. Of course it lovely to sit outside when the weather is beautiful and you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the waterfront and the beautiful sea breeze. The food has never disappointed. I have tried the pistachio encrusted salmon, the scallops and risotto and the seafood stew. Delicious meals, nice presentation and I certainly never left hungry. 😋 the espresso martini is also a nice treat. I recommend calling a head for a reservation. The parking lot a short walk away on the waterfront is free on weekends but it is a tight parking lot.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Highly impressed with our server. We were a party of 4 and my wife and I are visiting from Vancouver, BC. He never had to ask twice for our orders. Very knowledgeable about the wines and spirits. His explanation of the special for the night was outstanding and was ordered. He even engaged in conversation at the end of our meal without being overbearing. Outstanding service and the food was amazing!! Will definitely return on our next visit. Planning on visiting the sister restaurants as well.

Lunch at the Bicycle Thief was thoroughly enjoyable. We booked a table in advance and were shown to our seat promptly upon arrival, even though we were a bit early. The lunch menu was varied, with lots of seafood options! We enjoyed starters and mains but skipped dessert as we were quite full. The lobster and corn chowder was very good with lots of lobster chunks. The fish cakes were served with a side salad and chips and stuffed full of fish, very delicious. We also got the seafood linguine which was simple yet tasty. The atmosphere and service were quality. Would highly recommend as a nice meal and recommend to book in advance. They have a nice patio outside if it's nice outside.

Best meal our whole trip. Fabulous customer service. Reservations are highly recommended. Everything was high quality from start to finish. We will definitely be back! I recommend you add this restaurant to your "must go to" list for your Halifax visit.

First and foremost, our server (Paige I believe) was hands down the best server I have had in quite some time. Her eloquence in the menu tour, attention to detail, and her service was 10/10. Recognition for her service is what directed me to leave this review. Had a hard time deciding between the fish cakes and seafood past, she added on a fish cake to my order so I could try a bit of each. This did not disappoint. The seafood pasta was easily one of the best pastas I had. Scallops cooked to perfection. Lobster roll was fresh and flavorful. Cocktails, flavorful but still spirit forward. Ambiance was good too. Just found the bar area a little too cramped. Seriously, thank you Paige for your service, the bicycle club is lucky to have you. Cheers

Highly recommend! Service was great, food was delicious and plenty of cocktails/drinks to choose from. We had the fall off the bone beef and fresh crab ravioli which were both amazing, but so much choice in the menu and good prices.

Visited this restaurant back in September & I was blown away! All the things we ordered were extremely tasty, fresh & well seasoned! The ambiance & cocktails are also amazing! I really loved the seared local scallops & butterscotch caramel cake!! But overall, everything was so delicious! Plus our server, Rory, was incredibly kind and friendly during our visit too!! :)

Staff went above and beyond to help us celebrate our anniversary. We were lucky enough to be seated with a gorgeous view of the harbour, and every course of our meal was delicious to the very last bite. One of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time. We felt like royalty, and were given plenty of time to enjoy and digest. The sweet surprise message on our dessert at the end was a lovely touch. Every element of each plate was perfectly balanced. Our compliments to the chef (the lamb was magical), and to the impeccable service as we never had to wait or ask for someone’s attention. Thank you so very much for a worthwhile experience in fine dining!

I've been wanting to leave a review since before the pandemic! This place is AMAZING! The atmosphere is lovely, both inside and outside. Every server I've had has been incredibly friendly. The GM takes the time to stop by and ask how my experience has been. And the food...oh my goodness! Every time I forget how unbelievable it is! I try to order something different every time. I've had almost every appetizer on the menu and they all are so flavorful! I HAVE to have the lobster roll as a main and it is THEE BEST! The prices are very affordable for the amount of food you get. Their homemade rosemary bread and roasted pepper hummus is addictive! I can't say enough great things about the bicycle thief and hope your experience is as wonderful as mine!

Couldn’t speak more highly of this place. Food was outstanding. We had a wonderful Server named Clare. She knew the menu in and out and provided excellent service and recommendations. Only in Halifax for a week but I will absolutely be returning

After a long walk on the promenade, choosing a restaurant was a challenge. I'm glad to say we picked the right one and luckily had space to accommodate us as it was busy. Since Lobster Roll is on the menu, we had to try it as it is pretty much a local delicacy of the area. It tasted great and surprisingly small. I would have wanted a bit more as it was tasty. The sides, chips and salad are good additions. The Rosemary bread is nice. We also had a delicious salad which was well made and presented. The staff were a little attentive and not very engaging. The atmosphere was alright and busy. There is also outdoor seating.

Afternoon Lunch What a wonderful experience and meal while recently visiting family in Halifax. Have always heard great things about Bicycle Thief … they were right ! The food was fantastic, especially the shrimp to start (the sauce, I could just eat a whole bowl of it !) cocktails where tasty and loved the themes The lobster roll was a nice size, great flavour and excellent value. Highly recommend for lunch, until I can comment on dinner - I’m sure everything is amazing here !

My waitress was one of the best I’ve ever had… and as a salesman that travels across Eastern Canada, I was really impressed! (I had to mention it to her) she said it takes two to tango and appreciated the compliment, but I was being honest and this was what prompted me to leave a review. The team worked well together, and everything was on point! Everything from welcoming, to menu selection and recommendations, and toping off my drink and making sure everything was being experienced as it should. Amazingly delicious food that truly fed my soul! Lobster chowder was the best chowder I have ever had! Pistachio crusted Salmon was very flavourful and it was beautifully paired with green beans, few potatoes and carrots. My husband and I sat on the patio and it was very enjoyable, we didn't use them but they tie blankets to the top of chairs for you to use. It was great spot to see Halifax Harbour and to do some people watching! Fantastic service too!

Spent time in Halifax and came across this wonderful restaurant. The food was not only fantastic, it was very reasonably priced! Located on the waterfront enhaced the atmosphere. Our server, Matt was friendly and very helpful in providing suggestions for our lunch selection. This is definitely worth a visit!

Our waiter was fantastic. Low key and funny. Didn’t catch his name. Love the low lighting and ambience. Place has the best vibe. Highly recommend the Atlantic salmon and my daughter recommends the chowder and ravioli! So many great dishes to choose from. You cannot go wrong.

A lovely dining experience! They serve high quality food with great flavours. Halibut was a bit overcooked but the flavours were great. Absolutely loved it. Restaurant decor was on point. It is a very popular place so make sure to make reservations!

We went with a party of 6 and you can see the variety of plates we got. I won't go into details but rather summarize that the food was excellent , simply excellent nothing we didn't like, the cocktails were excellent, the service was excellent. It is very very busy at the place and it seems very loud and chaotic which I give 4 stars, but it is amazing how the kitchen can produce this reliable high quality food. Would we go back? 10000 percent yes.

All around amazing. We cannot complain. The food was top notch and the staff was really accommodating for 4 of us and an infant. Will definitely be back on our next trip to Halifax The dream of eating the grilled octopus once again!

Is this a must try? YES indeed. This place deserves to be one of top restaurants in Halifax. Service was great, food was delicious and the atmosphere was inviting, with a stunning view of the harbour. We started with the Mussels, Octopus and Calamari. I must say one of the best calamari dishes I have had in Canada. It had the best texture, flavour and quantity. We ordered the Lobster Linguine, Pistachio honey crusted Salmon (the pistachio topping went well with the salmon) and lastly Spaghetti so fruit de Mare. My favourite was the Salmon and Lobster Linguine. Make sure if you like it spicy, add Tabasco sauce. The pasta will be on a whole new level. Overall this place is definitely a “MUST, GO TO PLACE” Make sure to reserve a table before you walk in. It's always busy!

We stopped by during our Royal Caribbean cruise vacation. This place did not let us down. The food is spectacular and well seasoned. The portions are amazing and the quality and taste deserve a 5 star rating. We had mussels for the appetizer. For the main course we had the lobster pasta and the lobster roll. And for the dessert we had the butterscotch cake. We recommend them all. Great atmosphere too. It was a great day to sit outside.

We had lunch here during our trip to Halifax based on rave reviews from friends and Google and it did NOT disappoint! Not only was everything we had absolutely delicious, and the restaurant was beautiful, our server (I believe her name was Emma) was incredible. She was attentive and recommended some great spots for us to check out. Highly recommend the scallops, even family who normally doesn’t eat seafood loved them! Beautiful atmosphere and amazing staff. Check it out when you’re in town!

Great food and atmosphere! Can’t beat the location with their patio right on the boardwalk. Some of the best food I’ve had I highly recommend the fall off the bone beef short rib. The gnocchi was great too. And fantastic dessert. The restaurant was very accommodating to a seafood allergy, the manager came over and talked with us, and made sure that the servers and kitchen, were aware of the allergy.

Restaurant recommended to me by a friend, and I was definitely not disappointed! One of the best restaurants (if not the best) I’ve been to in a long time. The combination of the fresh and sublime tasting food, the attentive service, and the great atmosphere make it a wonderful upscale dining experience. All of the dishes we tried were very tasty and fresh, but the Lobster Thermidor and crab ravioli dishes were the hits of the night for us. This was my second time in Halifax and my first time at The Bicycle Thief, but I plan to stop by this fabulous restaurant every time I visit now!

Probably the best overall restaurant experience I've had in a long time. The food was incredibly delicious. The pistachio crusted salmon was a hit! I'm not a big huge salmon lover but this dish just made me fall in love with salmon! From the succulent taste and moist flavour of the salmon to the crusty pistachio, the emotion and love put into this dish was truly amazing. My wife had the lobster pasta. If you could only see the emotion she had after the first bite, you could say that her food adventure journey into finishing this dish was just the beginning. We ended our dinner with dessert and that too blew our minds! I can't even get into the amazing dinner service we had! Joshua made us feel at home and made sure everything was perfect! Almost felt like he was family! That's how amazing this restaurant is... The vibe, the people, the food was truly incredible. My wife and I can't wait to come back! Truly an amazing experience! I would recommend this restaurant from here to the moon and back! Cheers! 🍻

Service was amazing; our server was friendly and attentive. Gave great recommendations which we happily followed. We ordered the lobster roll, shrimp pasta, fish cake, and a salad. All were made well and tasted delicious! The portions were great — didn't leave you wanting but you didn't feel overwhelmingly full. Dessert was decadent without it being too sweet. Overall a really great time here.

The food here was phenomenal! We ordered all seafood and no complaints. Everything was delicious, including my cocktail. The only small complaint that I have is the service, it was lacking and very basic. Otherwise it was perfect. I would come back and I recommend to my friends if they travel to Halifax. Make sure you make a reservation, totally worth it!

The whole experience was awesome. Fantastic location with a view out to sea, great interesting menu including local wines and craft beers, superb food presentation and flavours and probably the best server I've had the pleasure of experiencing in many many years. Wish I'd caught her name as its definitely worth a mention. Not only will I recommend but I hope to return soon!

It’s a very nice place in downtown Halifax just by the water. The food was good although we expected more and the service was excellent. We had the burger which was a bit dry and the Old fashioned Lobster which was great but the pasta below it was without a lot of flavour and a bit cold.. For many other places it was enough for 5 stars but here we were just a bit disappointed. The rest of the dishes we ordered were great. See pic ….
