This place can get pretty busy on weekend evenings, but we stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and were seated right away. Our server was very friendly and fun. In addition to multiple big TVs above the bar, there are several nice, spacious booths with private TVs, so this would be a great place to come watch a game with friends. I loved the fish & chips - the fish was flaky and tender, and the tartar sauce was really tangy. Definitely recommend getting with the steak fries, which were perfect for fish & chips. Also got a bowl of their clam chowder, which was delicious and hearty. Another person got the French onion soup, which was better than most other places I've gotten it in Lansing. It was flavorful and savory without being too salty or heavy. We also got the wings, which were nice and crispy, and not drowning in sauce. The fried pickles were zesty and not greasy. We ordered the potato skins, which were fine, but truthfully I probably won't order again (especially because so much of the other stuff was great). We also tried the carrot cake and pecan ball sundae for dessert (they were out of bread pudding, so we'll definitely have to try that later!) The pecan ball sundae was a scoop of ice cream rolled in chopped pecans, with a little chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It was simple, but very tasty! And the carrot cake was delicious, but i think i have a bit of an issue with it being called carrot cake - there was very little carrot in the piece we got, and it was packed with shredded coconut. It had a layer of dense cream cheese frosting about half an inch thick on top sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg. I thought it was great, but beware if you don't like coconut!

I feel like there has been a lot of hype about this place, and I honestly wasn't that impressed. We were told the wait was 35 minutes when we got there, so we went to the bar. We were completely ignored at the bar for a goof 15 minutes before finally getting served. We tried to order an app at the bar and was told that we could not do that if we were waiting for a table. It took over an hour to finally get our table. Once seated, the service was pretty good. I'm not a sea food eater, so I ordered a Philly cheese steak. I was not at all impressed by my food. It tssked like steak mixed with cream of mushroom soup. My husband had fish and chips that he thoroughly enjoyed. I personally would not be inclined to return, but my husband would for the seafood.

Finally tried this place out! I love some good battered cod fish! Overall It was good, not the greatest fish I have ever had! So many people have recommended this place. Service was not the best. Drinks were okay. Tried the holiday margarita. I liked the fish tacos better then just the battered fish dinner. Fries were tasty! Overall I think I would try it again. There is parking but it’s mostly in the back, little ways to walk if you have health issues with walking a long ways. I liked the style of the building and the outdoor bar/patio for warmer days. Glad we finally tried it out.

3.8/5 When we first arrived with our party of 8 for lunch it looked as if we were in for a poor experience. The manager told us that we would have to wait until one of her servers arrived to be seated, hopefully in 10 min or so. As our group started discussing going elsewhere for lunch the manager sat us and took our drink order. She ended up being our waitress for our whole visit, and she did a fantastic job. The fish and chips meal was absolutely delicious. The portion of fish was massive, without a massive price. If they ask you if you want "thin" fries or "thick" fries, go with the thin fries as they are a normal thickness and the thick fries are massive steak fries. The fish was lightly breaded, and perfectly crunchy. The French onion soup was a hit, as well as the fish tacos(blackened) which had a kick to them. The broccoli cheddar soup looked way too thick, almost like a cheese sauce. Prices seemed like they were very reasonable, $10-12 for a burger meal, $14-16 for the massive fish portion. The environment was very welcoming, and extremely clean. All of the staff were very friendly. The outdoor patio area looks like it will be a hit in warm weather and the upstairs is laid out as a beautiful event space with private kitchen, bar, and restrooms. All in all a great experience and I am hopeful that it will get even better after the "newly-opened" bugs are worked out.

Expecting great food, but was disappointed. French onion soup the worst I ever had in a restaurant. Super salty and one piece of onion in the soup. Fish and chips was average at best. The special spicy breading was a joke. I liked the interior of the place, but would have to think twice about going back there. I had such high hopes, but a big dud for the food.

Great place for food, drinks, and visiting with friends! From the moment you walk through the door, you are made to feel welcome. We went here for dinner, and I presented my chefs card explaining my food allergies, and the server didn't even bat an eye. They will do their absolute best to work with food allergies. The servers are well educated and knowledgeable about the menu they are promoting. For dinner, I had the boneless chicken wings, my wife had the fish, and we both had tots with them. They both came to the table looking fantastic. There was no heavy batter involved, as well as no greasy feeling. Our son had the burger and it was cooked perfectly to order and topped with fresh veggies. Lastly, for desert we had the seasonal peppermint cheese cake. It was good, but felt it could have been a bit better. By this, we just mean that a little of a chopped peppermint Andes or candy cane pieces lightly sprinkled on top. Overall, the entire atmosphere, service, and food is well worth the stop at this great little restaurant.

This restaurant really needs some help. It is in a very strange location but someone has been recommending this restaurant for a very long time since they opened. To make a long story short, there is no one at the front desk and I picked up my own menu and read it while I waited. two other people joined the wait with me. I finally sat down. I was not feeling well I was looking forward to getting some delicious food that was warm. I ordered clam chowder a Cobb salad with blackened chicken and five garlic, Parmesan chicken wings. When the clam chowder came it was lukewarm. The potatoes were too big, and if there was clam in there it was difficult to find. for Monday of course it wasn’t busy. I just wanted something good to eat. The chicken wings are a dollar a piece on Monday. I asked for Parmesan wings, but I got an Asian flavored sauce which was very thick and sweet. I ordered 5. I then ordered a Cobb salad with blackened chicken. My chicken was not blackened. The salad was mediocre at best. overall, I would give this place a two. my goal is not to have any food returned to the kitchen or to have complaints with management while I’m reviewing the food. If I can’t see what’s going on in the kitchen, I will cut my losses. Best thing again was that they had ginger ale on the menu. when I got home, I hated the chicken in the microwave. It was still raw and rubbery. And I mentioned that it was supposed to be Parmesan garlic. If anything could’ve gone wrong in a restaurant, this was the place I hope they can get it together.

Had the fish and chips with shrimp. Nice portions. You get 6 shrimp and two big pieces of fish. Go early if can for happy hour.

Stopped here for dinner while staying at a nearby hotel. Wait staff was accommodating and kind. The restaurant was not the cleanest but it didn’t ruin the experience. The food was portioned nicely and tastes fresh. I definitely suggest the soft pretzel with beer cheese!!

Ordered a Margarita to start. Came with an unsalted rim but not worth sending back. What did make me send it back was the very sour mix. It overwhelmed the tequila. Our server, Libby was very apologetic. I had the reuben sandwich and it was really good. Lots of fresh corned beef. Not the shiney kind you often get when ordering a reuben. My partner had the blackened fish tacos and loved them. I ordered thin fries with my sandwich and they were just as I like them. Service was fast and excellent. We would go back.

Food is decent. Order the fish and chips “Eddie style” for more flavor. Double check that they charge you for the correct size beer. I had a 16 oz & they overcharged me for a 20 oz instead.

Stopped in around lunch on a Thursday. Due to construction, we had to take a detour, but nothing was going to stop us from trying the famous fish and chips. Parking might be a hassle on a busy night, but you likely just have a further walk. The area looks like it is up and coming and may have some really cool stuff surrounding it in the future. Near frandor and msu. Delicious food. Comparible shrimp po boy to a high I've been chasing since the coast of North Carolina. 10/10. My husband ordered the spicy fish n chips, but they forgot to add the spicy. Nevertheless, amazing fried fish cooked to perfection. 9/10

Had a good time here. The waiter was helpful with suggestions and fast to get us refills or anything we needed. My plate was salmon with fries on the side. It was thick and juicy. Next time I come here, I'm definitely getting the fish and chips.

Visited on 12/16 during lunch time. There was short 15 minute wait. Ordered Fish and chips eddie style with spicy batter, it was decent and worth the hype. Also ordered Mussels and shrimp which was underwhelming, mussels were dry and skimpy. Not sure if they forgot to put the sauce on it, the dish was completely dry with nothing to dip my garlic bread with. Will come back again for fish and chips.

First time here... oh.. my... delicious. The famous fish and chips. I heard much about from others. I had to give em a try. Now I don't usually like fish and chips. But.... THESE are actually rather amazing. Soooo good. Best fish and chips I think I've ever tried. The atmosphere was very relaxing. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, we had the mussels with garlic bread and Clam Chowder. Perfect choice to go with the fish and chips. Great share between us both.

Our first time. We’ll be back. Mussels with shrimp were very creative, however, I don’t like a kick or spicy. The cod Rueben was great. But best was the carrot cake, I think it beats the now closed Red Cedar Grill.

This was the 2nd time we got terrible service. We sat and waited for 15 minutes before anyone came to the table. The French onion soup was flavorless and cold but I was starving so I ate it. Then I got fish and chips and the fries were cold and stale so I got new ones. The fish itself was delicious though!! My boyfriend got the chicken tenders platter and he said it was delicious. Needless to say, we might give this place one more try but honestly I just keep getting disappointed.

I was very pleased with everything on our first trip to Old Bag of Nails tonight. It was very busy, and the parking lot didn't have the greatest layout. When it's busy like it was tonight, it's tough to find a spot that's decently close. The staff were all very friendly and quick paced. It took a while to get seated without a reservation, which is to be expected at a new restaurant on a Saturday night. We split a large pretzel for an appetizer, which was amazing. My brother in law & I both ordered the shrimp & fish plate. That's probably my favorite thing on the menu, and I have only been here once. My wife and sister in law split a chicken quesadilla and a Philly cheesesteak. In my opinion, the fries need more seasoning as well as the steak in the sandwich. But the amount of food and flavor you get with the shrimp & fish is worth every penny. We'll be coming back here for sure. Can't wait to hang out on their beautiful patio when the weather turns back around. Keep up the great work, everyone at Old Bag of Nails.

Excellent food and a good dining experience. The table had fish & chips (Eddie style), Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese dip, French onion soup, and fried mushrooms. Everything came out very quickly, was hot, and super tasty. Highly recommend!

Great service! Was blown away by fast service, and hot food. Ordered the pretzel (it was huge) french onion soup, and the fish and chips but substituted fries for onion rings. Everything was fresh and had great flavor. Minus one star for parking, it is in an odd location so I had to circle the building a few times.

This seems like a nice place! We tried to go here on a Friday night but there was a long wait and the parking lot was full. We came for a Sunday lunch instead and got seated right away. We were put in a big, comfortable booth with its own TV. It had football playing, but maybe the wait staff would be able to change it if you asked. (We don't watch football, but we just ignored it.) We got a variety of foods to try because it was our first time here. Everything was good. The French onion soup was savory, but not too salty. The buffalo wings had a crisp outside. There wasn't too much difference between the regular fish and chips and the spicy fish and chips, though the spicy may have been a little soggy. The fried pickles were big spears with a lighter, kind of tempura-like breading. We also tried a couple desserts. They were out of everything but the carrot cake and the pecan sundae dish. The carrot cake had a lot of coconut (way more coconut than carrot) and some pineapple in addition to the raisins, and a thick layer of cream cheese frosting. They had Guinness on tap. Outside, there are a couple fountains. It looks like there might be a patio with lights strung up out front, but there are no tables-- maybe there will be in warmer weather, though. There is a parking lot under construction that will be accessed with stairs near the restaurant. When that's finished, it will help with the parking situation. All the employees we interacted with were very friendly and efficient. I'm sure we'll be going back.
