After the conflict of 1974 and the division of Cyprus into two parts (Greek and Turkish), the mosque was closed, but Cypriot President Makarios III allowed the mosque to be opened after a visit by Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi to Cyprus in which he formally requested the president to open three mosques. The mosque was renovated in 2002 with the support of the United Nations and under the supervision of Saleh Lamei Mustafa, Director General of the Center for the Revival of the Heritage of Islamic Architecture. But still the historical mosque is in need of restoration inside out !

Lovely little mosque that you can visit. Grumpy warden who cheers up when he knows you are respectful. Well worth a visit

It is a simple mosque. Only the age of it is interesting.

Too bad for those people who love God in this way, they are closed for all the people who do not share their beliefs.

It was a first time for me to visit a mosque-very interesting and different. I had to cover my whole body before I enter but they had covers prepared for that. It was an interesting experience for me. Must see if you are into learning about different cultures and religions😊

Nice Mosque with a friendly Imam. Me and my wife and my son visited and for the first time in a Mosque it was very nice. Exactly like I expected it to be a piece of the Cyprus culture. My wife had to cover her body, but they have already prepared coats with hoodies so it worked out just fine.

Visiting the Djemi Kabir Mosque in Larnaca, Cyprus, during sunset for the Maghrib prayer is a truly enchanting experience. As the sun gently descends over this historic mosque, casting a warm, golden glow, the atmosphere becomes serene and spiritual. The combination of the mesmerizing sunset and the call to Maghrib prayer creates a moment of profound tranquility and reflection. It's a must-visit for those seeking a unique blend of cultural richness and the beauty of nature, all set against the backdrop of this remarkable mosque.

Disrespectful individual that chastised my group (3 people) off the property. Albeit there was no service at that time and we didn't have appropriate attire to enter the building we merely were walking outside to see the building outside when an old man disrespectfully and impolitely made us leave. No reason just asked where are you right now 3 times and belittled us for visiting a mosque. Little did he know we all are Muslim, absolute disgrace and shame of a Muslim. Even if we were not Muslim, that does not mean you can treat people like their less if you believe they don't share the same values/beliefs as you. Piece of history I wish I could have actually experienced but unfortunately that miserable man gives a bad impression of Muslims and Islam. Don't come here.

Such an unpleasant experience! It hard to respect tradition, culture and their religious beliefs when they don't respect us.

Very helpful and welcoming people. I saw a non Muslim couple who wanted to explore the mosque and the people helped them around. But women will have to cover up and the men also cannot be topless

The mosque is located next to the old fortress. Next to Promenade Street. Old building with old Muslim gorbishte in her yard.
