We came in from CA and had traveled for two days, Cattle Barons was such a pleasant surprise for hungry travel weary people. The atmosphere delivered the New Mexican flavor that we love. The food was amazing and beat out any of our steak houses in Fresno. The green Chile steak stew was so warm and flavorful and the salad bar was huge with so many salad options including pasta salads. My son had the grilled chicken Alfredo that tasted excellent and my husband had a big juicy burger he said he'd come back again for. The hostess took our name and number and we were able to wait in our car until the hostess texted to let us know our table was ready. The whole restaurant was very clean and very well maintained. As someone who worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years I was really impressed with Cattle Baron's. Great job guys!! We WILL be back. Don't hesitate on this one you won't be disappointed.

I really liked your menu. Roasted jalapeños were a first and certainly welcome. A steak meal is plenty for me, but I like soup and order soup or salad. The salad bar has two soups and I can control the amounts. Adding the salad bar to the prime rib was well worth it. Bread is worth mentioning. The menu is diverse, so there's something for everyone. There are a few items I'd like to try, so I will go back soon. I went back a month later as I was craving prime rib. They have a small selection of New Mexican wine. I tried their red and it was a good pairing.

Nice facility with great food. They sometimes cook the food, not to your liking. I had sausage and ribs that came out not hot. My girlfriends steak was not cooked the way she ordered for the second time. The sweet potato was yummy.

OMG I ate the best prime rib I had ever eaten!! And, I've eaten a LOT of prime rib in my life! It was melt-in-your-mouth tender. I could actually cut it with my fork! The flavor was excellent!👌🏻 I added the salad bar and went up twice lol. What can I say, I was hungry! The bar was full of fresh veggies. It was well attended and clean. Hubby had ribeye which was delicious, but he wished he had gotten the prime rib after tasting mine! The steaks were perfectly cooked to order. Our server, Lauren, was awesome! She made sure our meal was good and that our drinks were filled. If you're ever in the Las Cruces area, you MUST eat here!

Tried Cattle Barron based on Google reviews and we have to say it was as good as everyone said. My wife and I stopped in for dinner. It has a very nice atmosphere, an excellent salad bar. My wife and I had the salad bar which gets you a huge plate to fill up. I added an 8oz sirloin. It was cooked exactly they way I ordered. It did have a tiny amount of gristle, but it's sirloin, not ribeye. The rest was super tender, peppery. No steak sauce needed. The salad bar had a ton of choices. You also get a nice loaf of bread with some butter when your drinks arrive. Two salad bar orders, an 8oz side sirloin, one draft beer, one sangria, and a diet coke was $45.92, w/o tip, not bad really. Our server, Pam was very good, very friendly and kind. She recommended several things we tried and they were excellent. She says everything is handmade on the salad bar. We tried the sweet potato bread with whip cream, so good! and I tried the vanilla pudding, also very good. If we ever get back this way, we will absolutely stop back by. Highly recommended!!

The Rib Eye my co-worker ordered was delicious and photo-worthy, made as ordered. Unfortunately, my Prime Rib was anything but. Thankfully, the Au Jus that came with the Prime Rib was delicious and the salsa-type sauce on the zucchini was great. I've heard this place is known for their salad bar - I should have ordered it for only an extra $4... It looked amazing. The service was slow and the check came without the waitress asking if we wanted another drink or dessert. It was a Wednesday evening and not busy. I would probably try this again if I lived in the area and was running out of other options, but it's not a place I can't wait to return to.

I went in on a busy night. Salad bar was well stocked. The chicken fried steak was good but the best part was Lauren. She provided the best service I've had in a long time. Thank you Lauren.

Great food, the only issue I had is I got 4 steak fries with my steak. If thats what they always do when you order steak fries... don't order them. The steak was cooked the way I asked for it.

We were a large party of eight. Our wait time for a table to be set up was 15 min or less. Our Server Anjelica was super efficient, polite, and knew the menu very well. Her suggestions were spot on for each of us. From Steak to Salad Bar, everything was flavorful and fresh. Everyone left very happy. You know that is often hard to please everyone in a large group. However they did perfectly. We will all be back.

We stopped in while driving thru town. First impression was that it looks like an overly westernized hotel restaurant. From the items on the wall to the flagstone service areas. We ordered some green chile wontons to start. First off, I don’t think that oil is supposed to be brown. The drops of brown oil dripping from the wontons onto the plate wasn’t very appetizing. They bring 2 dipping sauces; one is a ranch dressing dip & the second is kind of like a pot sticker sauce that was cold. Perhaps a hot mustard & red sweet & sour sauce would be better? Also the centers were like biting into a piece of cold cheese instead of a warm gooey center. We definitely did not eat them all. The bread was tasty with the soft melty butter. We then ordered some prime rib that was a bit burnt on the outside and was chewy. The horseradish sauce could have used some more kick. It looked like ranch dressing. We also ordered the New York steak Manhattan cut with a sweet potato. It looked like we ordered the kids meal. A dinky sweet potato and a wedge of overcooked steak with no other vegetables. Also $4.95 for a salad added to your meal? That’s a bit excessive in my book. Luckily we were just passing thru because I won’t be returning even though the bill was only about $62 for the both of us.

Have gone there many times over the years, but not a regular customer. Never really have been impressed with the food, but the salad bar is always great. This visit I decided to try the chicken strips and was disappointed. My plate was full, so not putting down the portion size, but after trying to eat 2 strips of bland chewy chicken, I gave up and just ate my side. I also noticed that the iced tea tasted bad. The others at my table that also ordered tea all said the same. Our server Maggie was great, but my food was not worth the price in my opinion. My brother also happened to be passing by a table while another server was serving, somehow a steak knife fell off of the serving tray and cut my brother's toes (he was wearing sandals). Not severely, but he did bleed. We did not make a big deal about it, but I would hope that a manager or someone would've come to check on us. Probably be awhile until I go back and if I do, I'll just stick to the salad bar.

I am a big fan of salad bar and this place has a great one! If you’re going with vegetarians their options are mozzarella sticks (which are top notch) or fried mushrooms but with the salad bar it’s actually a decent meal. Love the steak and my pescatarian spouse says the fish was delicious. Portion sizes are generous. Note: salad bar plates are very cold - you can ask for a room temp one if you want :)

Food was great, love their salad bar. The baby back ribs were cooked perfect. Our waitress was prompt and polite, she did a great job taking care of our large group.

Steak has been perfect the last 4 times we have gone. Waitresses and rest of the food is on point as well. It's nice to have consistency at a restaurant these days. Cannot say enough how much I appreciate getting what I pay for. Thank you management and staff!!!

Friendly service. Nice and warm lightning. The prime rib was juicy and tender. Blackened catfish was flavorful. Big portions. Salad bar was extra clean and robust. Great experience.

Mrs. and I both had chopped steak and added the salad bar- we were hungry! Salad bar is fantastic with numerous selections, plus a couple of soups and desserts. The chopped beef was a hearty portion with great flavor and cooked exactly as we ordered. Get ready for a great meal.

This was a unexpected delight on an unplanned road trip. The restaurant reminds me of one of the old “family” steakhouses that were so prevalent during my youth in the South. The service was very warm, friendly and helpful. Prices were very reasonable. Steak was tender and cooked right, but a little unseasoned. My favorite part was the salad bar. It was well-maintained; clean, stocked, and FRESH. I loved all of the choices, especially the included soup. If I am ever in Las Cruces again, I’ll definitely be back to the Cattle Baron.

This restaurant has been an anchor in Las Cruces for years. It's still a great place to get a reasonably priced steak or seafood plate with all the sides. The salad bar is wonderful with so many choices including some desserts and soups. The service is very good, and the steaks are still tasty and cooked perfectly to your request.

Server was very nice. Food was great. Salad bar was amazing and had everything you could think of. The asparagus was super delicious! Restaurant was clean as well.

Food and drinks were great as always, but the service from our waitress was lackluster. Slow to bring us our various courses, even when asking for something as simple as a salad bar dish. Finished our appetizer and salad and then waited so long for the entree that we finally asked for it to go, yet she still tried to get us to order dessert. All with a bland attitude. Left leaving a small tip and wishing we'd gone to the Pecan Grill instead. Service is always on point over there.

Stopped for dinner. Got the prime rib. Normally I like my prime rib as rare as possible. However, they were out of rare, so they promised me a good cut of medium rare. It did not disappoint. The prices were great and the salad bar is legit. Definitely check it out if you get a chance.

Love their salad bar, everything is kept fresh and filled up. The soups are delicious. Love the prime rib here. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a bar inside the restaurant too.

My chicken parmigiana was amazing ! The chicken was lightly battered and had the perfect amount of salt. It wasn’t too salty . The chicken was sooo moist and tender I was very impressed. The meal was great . Service is great too and salad bar is always delicious with great options for soup .
