Few
visitors
to
Las
Cruces,
NM
realize
this
Veterans
Memorial
exists,
and
even
fewer
recognize
the
significance
of
New
Mexico's
contributions,
(...but
this
is
typical,
as
there
are
many
veterans
war
Memorials).
What
commanded
my
sincere
interest
&
attention
in
particular
were
New
Mexico's
exceptional
contributions
during
the
Battle
for
the
Bataan
Peninsula
in
early
World
War
2,
and
consequently
the
well-known
sacrifice
by
U.S.
&
Philippine
servicemen
afterwards
during
the
deadly
Bataan
Death
March
and
brutal
imprisonment.
This
Memorial
park
is
a
short
drive
from
the
busy
and
popular
shopping
centers
in
the
NE
part
of
Las
Cruces
and
worth
a
neat
half-hour
stop.
It's
also
a
great
place
for
a
picnic,
BBQ,
or
just
spending
a
day
outdoors
(when
it's
not
too
blazing
hot,
or
cold).
Top-notch
Memorial
park
by
the
State
of
New
Mexico!
