Absolutely beautiful hotel and attention to detail was exceptional. Throughout our 5 night stay we received extraordinary treatment, it was the attention to detail on the little things which made our stay so pleasant. To name a few, the spa (90 min complimentary booking daily) was of a high standard with many facilities including jacuzzi, heated pools, turkish baths and all types of saunas. We received complimentary chocolates everyday which was a nice touch! The cleaning staff were exceptionally thorough and would come to the room twice a day offering to make it up/new towels. We also highly enjoyed the live music that would play in the evenings such as the piano/violin/opera singers, this was beautiful to take in while sitting in the balcony and enjoying the sunset over the gardens. The hotel itself is beautiful and has a rich history with lavish surrounding gardens, the breakfast was also a really lovely experience. The rooms are very modern even though the building is quite historical. The rooftop bar is a nice touch with the infinity pool. The receptionist were also great, especially Rosana who was very welcoming and patient in explaining the hotel and throughout our stay. The manager also asked how our stay was and suggested areas to go out at night in the local area. Having travelled all around the world, I must say this hotel is worth of a 5* rating and hopefully I will get the chance to visit again soon. Keep up the good work :)

Wow! Absolutely a stunning hotel! One I'd not the best hotel we've ever stayed at. We had the deluxe superior room with the inner courtyard view for reference and it was so beautiful in it's style and well thought of in enterior and utility. The style is so beautiful and unique, we've been greeted only by friendly staff and they have been a huge plus in the overall rating. The room is a good size, spacious luxurious bathroom and rainfall shower that will make you want to shower all day. The balcony is stunning and the view just as well. The breakfast is following the same high standard, with a perfect outside seating area in the park and with constant respectful service from the staff. Everything feels fresh and home made, i cannot point to a single fault or anything that i wish was different. While we stayed there was an event for bridal fashion, it made the place a bit busy and it could shortly be a bit noisy in the courtyard, but it didn't really bother us and it was quite fun to see it a bit backstage. The location is a bit outside of the center, you'll have to walk or take a bus, but the transportation system is easy and cheap and makes it perfectly easy to get around from the hotel. The area is super safe and the park is beautiful in day as well as in the night. All in all a perfect stay, a place well worthy of the 5 stars and we will for sure want to come back in the future again. Next time probably in the junior suite which gives access to the VIP spa.

First of all let me just tell you, I am from Ireland and when I booked a 5 star hotel in Las Palmas for €438.00 for 3 days, I said to myself there must be something not right here because for the likes of the Shelbourne Hotel where I have stayed in Dublin, you can get a room for around €400 a night. It's overly priced and the customer service always falls short. Santa Cataina was a short trip but the reviews of the Hotel looked amazing and I wanted to treat myself so off we went. I think what really makes a trip is the over all experience. A customer experience! From the moment we got off the plane, we were greeted by our driver whom the hotel arranged for us. He was lovely and gave us a tour along the way to the Hotel, offering us sweets and was very kind and bubbly. We were excited to arrive and when we did , it did not disappoint. The Hotel is stunning!! We walked in to see a woman playing the piano, men and women dressed in their best enjoying wine and cocktails. Eduardo met us in reception and gave us both a glass of cava while we checked in. He was incredibly kind and made us feel very welcome. He told us of the history of the hotel and led us over to where we could find our room. The room was beautiful, we stayed in a deluxe superior room which was very clean and gorgeous interiors. The balcony had a peaceful view and it reminded me of New Orleans in the decor. We went down to 1890 for the first night and enjoyed some nibbles, again the customer service from the staff was just amazing. Day two we were escorted from the pool side with towels in hand by a lovely gentleman who laid them out for us on our sun chairs and drinks were at your beck an call by simply scanning the app presented on your umbrella. The roof top bar had a DJ on sat evening and the atmosphere was brilliant. The cocktails did not disappoint and Juan looked after us all night. Our room was cleaned every day and the air conditioning was perfect tempature. It was never noisey and we slept very well each night. There was Jazz on Sunday also which was great. I cannot get over how helpful and patient the staff were. Sometimes you can meet someone having a bad day and it can ruin your experience but we never wittnessed that. We were treated like VIPs the entire time we were there and I will 100% come back. Next time with my husband. Thank you to all the staff for making it so memorable. Siobhan & James room 204

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Santa Catalina hotel for 5 nights and I must say that my experience was wonderful. The communication with Carolina guest experience manager was great from the start, which made my stay even more enjoyable. The Santa Catalina hotel is truly a gem. Its historical charm and amazing architecture are something to marvel at. The hotel has maintained its classic charm while providing modern amenities that made my stay truly comfortable. The suite we stayed in was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. One of the highlights of my stay was visiting the hotel's spa, which was wonderful. The services were top-notch and the staff was attentive and friendly. I felt completely relaxed and rejuvenated after my treatment. I also highly recommend the jazz brunch at the hotel. The food was delicious, and the live music was a perfect touch to make for a truly enjoyable experience. While there were a couple of cons that I experienced, such as no complimentary water in the suite, and the absence of sun umbrellas on the rooftop pool area, these were minor setbacks in what was otherwise a fantastic stay. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Santa Catalina hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and historical stay with top-notch amenities, spa, and dining experiences. I can't wait to be back.

In agreement with many of the other reviews. The hotel is gorgeous and has many pros: rooftop pool/bar, amazing hydrotherapy circuit, history, fine dining, beautiful public park, etc. We are glad we stayed, but there were a few things that you would expect from a 5-star hotel that Santa Catalina misses the mark on. Some staff are very nice, others are rude or dismissive. Typical room amenities like bath salts, bottled water, mini fridge, ice, coffee/tea and iron were missing. The air conditioning barely cooled the room, so I would not recommend a stay during hotter months. We only asked for our room to be cleaned once, but they missed replacing wash cloths and glasses somehow. Calling for room service or help from the front desk was also hit or miss. A few tweaks to service would go a long way! Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed both restaurants and had incredible wines, especially at Poemas. Great cocktails and service on the roof as well. Highly recommend the restaurants and the hydrotherapy.

Old style renovated hotel with attentive staff and all amenities. Surrounded by a park. The Hotel was thought as a weekend treat. And splurged on a junior suite facing the park. During the weekend they have an outdoor party across the park which is going strong until 4 in the morning. Got party noise as a upgrade. Not sure if I will want to repeat the experience unless, room is in the back. Treat yourself during the week.

Stayed for 8 nights and loved it. The staff here make this place, every single one lovely, really kind and made the week for us. We had a suite which was a great size with amazing bath and shower and got you access to the roof top bar and pool. Try get a room overlooking the front of the hotel if you want a view from your balcony. Breakfast was amazing. We'll def be back. Thank you Santa Catalina

I was reasonably happy with some of aspects of this hotel, but others need improvement. Pros: Location was very easy. Grounds and public areas are gorgeous Beds comfortable Nice toiletries Cons: Check in took longer than 30 minutes and I was not offered a welcome drink while other parties were. Hallway is noisy with staff clinking tableware loudly while you sleep. There isn't very good soundproofing in the doors There is a line at breakfast and you have to sit and wait like you are at a greasy spoon There are energy restrictions of a/c temperatures set to 19c, but mine was set to go no lower than 22c.

BUYER BEWARE! NOT A 5-STAR ESTABLISHMENT! Absolutely atrocious service which still has me scratching my head in disbelief. From the reception desk where a single receptionist was handling requests of ALL the patrons backing everything up (a simple question/inquiry could take 10-15 minutes as was my experience) to the confused bell boys who looked like they had been there for decades but worked like they were still in training. I had to go find someone inside to help me with my luggage when I pulled up in my car. I also had to take care of parking all by myself. No valet service at one of the most premier hotel in Gran Canaria? The room didn't come with an IRON for which I had to make several calls and an eventual visit downstairs. No wine opener in a place known for superb wine. Again a series of calls and hang ups and transfers for a simple amenity. Maybe I'm missing something here but this is a 5-star correct? Housekeeping didn't do a great job cleaning either and didn't replace the dirty towels on the bathroom floor one of the afternoons. It's such a shame because the grounds are absolutely beautiful as well as the decor and rooms. The pool and bar service, along with the rooftop bar which served delicious cocktails, were the only thing that sort of saved this place otherwise I might've completely lost it. Bottom line, if you simply can't offer the 5-star experience stop advertising yourself as such and charging exorbitant prices. I've gotten better service at a 3-star in the middle of Ohio. ALMOST FORGOT! We scheduled a wake up call for 4:45am for our early morning flight which, if you haven't guessed already, they obviously missed. Good thing we thought ahead and set a couple of alarms just in case but this is serious stuff as we could've missed our flight! We called the front desk for help with our luggage and were told somebody will be available at 8am 😂 Again none of this adds up. What a shame honestly because the place looks and feels luxurious and romantic but when you just don't get the proper service it leaves such a foul taste. Save your money. There are definitely better options. We fell for the reviews and the ostensible glamor so you don't have to 😊👍🏼

Just returned from a fabulous trip. A few highlights - The facilities are excellent, even though I had access to the rooftop pool during the day I actually preferred the main pool area which had a man with blonde hair (sorry I didn’t get his name) who attended to us and was exceptional, was definitely a highlight seeing him working everyday. When visiting the rooftop pool during the day, service was a little slow, I had expected a similar type service as the main pool area but didn’t notice this, perhaps a lack of staff? I visited the rooftop bar in the evening a couple of times, lovely surroundings at night. I would say, when I arrived, there was a coupon for a welcome drink in my room inviting me for a cocktail, when I ordered and tried to exchange my voucher the waiter told me that it was only for one specific type of cocktail which was a shame. Again, service was a little slow. The Spa/Wellness centre is great, I booked two massages - full body and facial. Again, the man working on the desk was so friendly and helpful. Gym is well equipped with the high spec machines. Cleaning team very attentive. My final night, I found the room a little noisy with the rooftop bar above, however, nothing a pair of earplugs didn’t fix and wouldn’t have put me off from staying again. I received a bottle of cava in my room for my birthday which was a lovely highlight. All in all, I had an excellent trip and I would love to return someday so definitely still worth the 5*s even with some small improvements.

Perfect place to stay. Rooms are beautiful and the staff are fabulous. Very good value too. Oh and the showers!? Heaven! Just be wary of the terrace manager with the silver ponytail. She nearly managed to take the shine off a perfect few days. But her bad attitude was only a small stain on what is the most beautiful of hotels. Next time we'll make sure to avoid her shifts 🤣

I’ve been to a fair share of high end hotels but Hotel Santa Catalina is an amazing experience. We’ve stayed in the royal suite to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The suite has a massive all around terrace with 4 different seating areas overlooking the whole courtyard park of the hotel. The space is beautiful, split into the bedroom & living room area, two large bathrooms with shower, bathtub & toilets..it’s a very thoughtfully designed & truly royal by size too. The staff makes you feel special at every step, especially Manuel & Eduardo stand out. The highlights have to be the breakfast (coming from a non-breakfast person), the spa & the Sunday brunch with live jazz band. All of these elements make it one of a kind experience so much so, that we’re seriously looking already at options to come back to chill just for a few days. Manuel - the manager - was joking at check-in that we’d never want to check-out and nothing could be more true. Thank you, the whole team, for making us feel like we’ve had a month of blissful rest here even with just a short 4-day stay.

This Place is amazing. We stayed here for our 30th wedding Anniversary because it just seemed like a special place to be, it truly was! All the staff were amazing, we just couldn't say a single bad word about them. Everyone was so friendly and our introduction to the hotel initially was 2nd to none. Sat down in a beautiful reception where we were shown things to do on a map etc while sipping on a Cava 🥂 and being told about the tartan on the clothes etc and full details of the hotel. Brilliant! The gentleman who explained all of this to us was amazing so pass on our thanks again. Drink and food on the high side for us with a Brockmans and tonic coming in at €16:50..... But it didn't stop us from buying it because the whole experience as I said above was magnificent. We booked a massage for the 1hr and used the wellness centre a few times plunging into the ice cold bath was worth it too, just brilliant! We upgraded when booking, to their  Junior Suite, this got us the use of the wellness area and rooftop area all free too, I think up until 5 pm then other guests could use it too. Great place to sit in the evening with drinks too. Live singer one night at the downstairs bar one night and a DJ o. The rooftop. All in all a stunning place to stay. The peace and quiet at the pool areas was just the best! Couple of drinks in the afternoon 🍸🍹🥂👌🏼

I recently had the pleasure of visting the hotel's bar, it is a luxurious oasis in the heart of the city, with elegant design, and great service. The pianist, whose name was Keka, was absolutely amazing. She played a variety of classical pieces, with a beautiful and haunting sound. We stayed at the bar for hours, listening to Keka play. The hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway or a special occasion. And if you're lucky enough to catch Keka's performance, you won't be disappointed.

A truly beautiful hotel. Great rooms, grounds and pool. Good restaurant options and a top notch breakfast. All the staff were very professional and helpful. They could really do with more than two desks at reception - there seems to be an almost permanent queue but other than that the hotel is pretty flawless.

We stayed at the Santa Catalina in May, our first trip to Gran Canaria, and were amazed by the incredible service from everyone at the hotel. The reception, restaurants, pool, spa and even the gardens surrounding the hotel made the experience exceptional. A short walk from restaurants off site and quick taxi to the centre of town, the beach or the historic area's were all appreciated. We can't wait to go back and visit again.

Was here on a work trip and this was sorry I did not have more time to play. But I will be back. Really amazing place. Old feel but all the amenities are new and well done. Staff went out of their way. And the daily breakfast spread is so large that’s is equal to a Sunday brunch major hotel. Swimming pool was fantastic as was the rooftop bar. Really enjoyed the stay. Thanks!!

Loved every minute of our stay here. A gorgeous hotel with personality and history, a beautiful seating area in the lobby to relax and listen to the piano, fun drinks at the poolside bar upstairs, and above all, excellent and incredibly helpful staff members at the front desk and throughout the hotel. They really made our stay what it was. If we lived closer to this hotel, we'd be there far more often. Can't wait to be back someday.

Best hotel I’ve stayed at. Clean, great hospitality, friendly staff and an appropriate mix of modern and historic. The upgrade to the breakfast and spa access we’re well worth it.

  • 3/5 Bálint K. 9 months ago on Google
Beautiful interior and surrounding greenery. Friendly staff, although many of them don't speak English at all. This is pretty much all the positive to say about the place. We found cockroaches 2 times in out rooms. Staff managed to remove them for the first time, but the second time the roach ran inside the curtains and we were offered a new room, and had to evacuate in the middle of the night. On top of these, we once returned to our room to find our door left open after cleaning. Serious health and security issues. As a compensation we were offered a generous €32 discount from our final bill. This wouldn't even cover a breakfast at the hotel. Absolutely wouldn't return.

Beautiful and traditional hotel (founded 1890) that was extensively renovated in 2019. It was the first hotel that opened on the Canary Island and you can feel the rich heritage of the place. Nice rooms with very comfortable beds, pillows and sheets. Great breakfast and huge gym and spa. The outdoor pool is quite big where as the smaller rooftop pool and terrace offer a great view over the city and the harbour. The hotel itself is surrounded by a park. We had a great stay here, also thanks to the impeccable service. Highly recommendable! Hard to get that kind of luxury for so little money in Europe.

Fantastic stay here. The hotel and rooms are so beautiful. Service is great, attentive, and feels like a 5* experience. The shower is one of the best I've ever had - water pressure felt like a power washer, but in a good way.

Traveled as a couple to celebrate the anniversary. Beautiful hotel. Fancy but not pretentious. The staff was great, the check in and checkout was easy. The room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. Maybe the location wasn't the best, but the rest was awesome.

A truly beautiful hotel with excellent facilities and staff. We rarely travel in such luxury, and it was a wonderful treat. As other reviews mention, be aware that front-facing suites have a stunning view, but also suffer a considerable amount of late night noise from adjacent areas, loud party music beyond 4am at weekends. This is beyond the hotel's control, unfortunately. Tightly closing the windows & curtains isn't entirely successful, because the default minimum setting for aircon is 21°C. The room felt airless, hot & stuffy, I was unable to sleep for several nights. After some conversations the next day, and speaking directly with the hotel manager, staff adjusted the aircon which fully resolved the situation. Appreciated the complimentary wine & chocolates too. Key advice is to think in advance whether you might prefer a quieter rear-facing room to avoid these issues. Overall though, we greatly enjoyed staying at the Santa Catalina.

Stunning hotel and grounds with fantastic service and facilities. We were looked after from beginning to end. Breakfast outside every morning was lovely with amazing quality and choice of food. We arranged airport transfers through the hotel which was €45 each way in a luxurious car. Cocktails are pricey in the rooftop bar but very nice. The hotel bar does lovely cocktails too and wonderful service. You can catch the city sightseeing tour bus from the road at the front of the hotel. Good Central location from the cathedral, marina and beaches. If you don't want to walk the concierge can arrange a taxi. We loved our stay and can honestly say there isn't one thing we didn't like.

Fantastic experience in this very customer service oriented hotel. Breakfast is brilliant, lots of home cooking & perfect brunch for the day. Lots of art & architecture around the hotel that is truly elegant in style. Pool outside was cold which I didn't mind but a bit chilly for others. Spa was mega & massage top class😀 bar on 5th floor had great view & cool pool. Could have done with a few warm blankets for colder days when sitting outside for breakfast or on verandah.

We choose Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideway Hotel for our honeymoon trip and we were not disappointed. We stayed in a Junior Premium Suite - the room was spacious, luxuroius with great bath and rainfall shower. The bed was very comfortable and a real king size. We also had access to all of the VIP areas of the hotel for free - the wellness centre and the rooftop bar, where you could enjoy the infinity pool and a great variety of coctails and drinks (from 10 to 17:30 it is only for suite category guests and it is very relaxing). The breakfast on the outside terrace is exceptional. The staff is incredible - very kind, friendly and helpfull. I want to mention especially Ms. Judith González - she made us feel even more special for our honeymoon, helped us arrange trips to other parts of the island and gave us advice for local restaurants to visit. The only negative is that the check-out process was on the slow side but still this did not change our perfect experience in the hotel.

Very friendly welcome at the reception. Staff do everything they can to make you feel welcome. Stayed in a Junior Suite Premium, spacious. Pools are well maintained and everything is clean. The wellness as well! Breakfast is very good with many options. Staff there also very friendly. The only downside is the cleaning of the room, it is very bad. Stayed several times in Santa Catalina, but always hair on the floor, bathroom not completely clean, doors of the toilet in the bathroom not clean. Reported to the reception, however, the cleaning remained very poor. In the evening lacks a turn down service. Santa Catalina is a wonderful hotel!

Amazing hotel. The service was amazing and the staff most attentive and always helpful. The breakfast caters for all possible morning cravings. We ate at the restaurant on the side, and the food was excellent. We used the hotel services to rent a car and were extremely happy with what we got and what we paid. An amazing place!

Was quite delighted to stay in the hotel with such a history. Should admit that the staff is quite friendly and kind, always smile and treat you well. The bar at the rooftop surprised with tasty cocktails. Compliments to a guy playing a piano at the evening. Top quality hotel for a reasonable price. The hotel parking is quite expensive competing to options available nearby. But the hotel staff positively surprised me by offering a free of charge parking spot for the last night.

We had the most amazing experience at this hotel. We booked the presidential suite for 10 nights and the service level was incredible. Every part of the hotel is new, and you will not find any spots. Everyone meets you with a smile and every interaction feels sociable, not fake or forced like in other hotels. The breakfast is also very good. Honorable mentions to the egg guy, the maitre d in the restaurant and the serving staff. The VIP pool area is amazing, we never left it.

Beautiful hotel with excellent bars, rooftop with scenic views and ground floor with live music almost daily. The rooms are spacious and very good internet.

Great hotel. Gym facility is one of the best I have ever seen in a (European) hotel. Spa and pool are great, however on promotional material you see a beautiful rooftop pool, but this one turns out to be only accessible for premium members. Cannot say anything about the breakfast since we preferred to have breakfast outside. Location is in the middle of two parts of town. If you exit the hotel and turn right it’s about a 10/15 walk to the shopping area with lots of nice breakfast/lunch/dinner places. If you turn left when exiting the hotel it’s about a 30 min walk to the boulevard with also lots of restaurants.

I booked a room, breakfast and a massage online on their own webpage, but when I showed up they only knew about the room... The check-in was nice. Polite kind staff and plush chairs to relax in while the staff do their keyboard dance. The couple next door to me had an 5 hour huge fight - her crying him screaming... I don't understand Spanish but felt very involved still... I was happy I had noise cancelling headphones. Did not expect this little soundproofing from a 5 star. The restaurant outside the main entrance was fabulous! The risotto was epic! Will also recommend the roof bar! Such a cool vibe! The outdoor pool was guarded buy this friendly gentleman who made sure I had all I needed. The pool had about 16 deg celsius... a tad cold 😅 the staff at the pool bar was kind, fun and attentive! I had a massage in the spa and it was above what I was hoping for. She found my problem areas without me telling and was strong and gentle with perfect timing! With some different neighbors I would happily stay again.

This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It goes without saying that in this five star hotel the food was great, staff was nice, the rooms were stunning and the landscape around the hotel was amazing. First time in a five star hotel and it definitely did not disappoint

Top notch classy hotel with all amenities of a 5-star accommodation place. The breakfast is just fabulous and offers nice seating on the sunny terrace. Features several pools, SPA and well equipped gym with free-weights. Nice rooftop terrace with pool and bar. The clean rooms (suite) were spacious and provided everything one would expect from such a hotel.

Positives: Great service. Luxurious rooms. Beautiful park out the rear of the hotel and surrounding area. Staff are lovely and very helpful. The hotel overall is beautiful. Wellness centre and gym was amazing, the gym was free which was a lovely addition. The massage I received at the wellness centre was fantastic and the staff here are also lovely. The hotel provided my mother (who’s birthday it was) a bottle of champagne, card and desert in the room which was a nice thoughtful touch. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel. You are all amazing people! Negatives: We had to request to move rooms as we requested a room with a view which was not provided however the hotel staff were great in assisting us to move to another room. However this should’ve really been actioned before we checked in as I emailed a few times about this before arriving. The room that we moved from (on the 4th floor) to the room on the first floor, was extremely noisy, this is not the hotels fault but I would advise anyone staying here to avoid the first floor. We had a nice view from our balcony of the entrance to the park however upstairs were moving furniture around from 1am onwards until around 7am every night/early morning which was extremely loud and annoying. The sound of breakfast being prepared from 6am or so is also quite loud within the room. Towards the end of our stay there was also a lot of noise in the hallway also. We noticed in the bathroom there was what looked like a small amount of vomit on the wall and metal wall hanging above the toilet and on the other wall adjacent to this. We only noticed it because of using the toilet everyday but still this was a bit gross. Also there was also a used opened bottle of water in the fridge. I appreciate however perhaps the hotel quickly cleaned this room to accommodate us moving into that room at late notice so this wasn’t overly an issue for us. We didn’t have dinner here though and tried to eat and drink elsewhere as found it a bit too expensive, but I know that you are paying for the service and experience in this instance. It was a bit unclear if the mini bar was charged for each item you used so we didn’t use this much but it is a nice touch. Overall we had a great time and would definitely recommend this hotel and area to everyone.

I really liked the hotel and would recommend it to anyone. he hotel looks very chic and is lovingly restored. You can really relax here as it is very quiet in the hotel. You have a beautiful view from the roof and you can relax by the pool or enjoy the spa area. Breakfast buffet is excellent and the service is always nice and helpful. you have breakfast on a nice terrace. The restaurant is also recommendable. Especially on the first day after arrival you don't have to go anywhere, you can enjoy the evening there. Staff at the reception is very nice and accommodating. I liked the "normal" room and it was fully adequate as I was alone.
