Fun! Crazy weather for late May! Sleet. Snow. Blue skies. Mud. Nice progression up to the peak with some steeper switchbacks near the top. A couple downed trees on the trail, but easy over.

A great hike if you're looking for something moderately strenuous, especially if you have an energetic dog. If you hike pretty quickly and are in good shape you will make it up in an hour and a half. The trail is mostly shaded so it doesn't get too hot and it does not have any difficult footing. There is one tiny trickle of a stream along the way (pictures here) which my dog loved on the hot summer day we were there. Bring a snack because you will be hungry by the time you reach the top. And don't forget water!

If you're looking for somewhere relatively off the beaten path, but not too remote, this is the hike for you! It's a relatively easy hike and the trail is easy to follow. The trees that other reviewers mention have since been cleared off the trail. Once you peak the mountain, you are rewarded with one of the best views in the entire Black Hills.

Large parking area for hikers and those with ORV's. Trail head was easy to find and the trail is easy to follow all the way to the top. Beware of the endless poison ivy along the first mile of trail which was narrow with encroaching plant life including poison ivy. Once into the wooded section the trail opens up and the poison ivy clears out. Great views at the top of the entire valley, but it can get crowded as there is little room at the top and just a single track trail to the sign. Few places to sit and rest before your return trip. Please bring plenty of water in the hot months and be prepared. We ran across multiple "hikers" in flip flops and street shoes with a single 16oz bottle of water. An accident waiting to happen.

Awesome hike bring your dog and water I would recommend starting early to miss some of the sun and heat. Good spot with partial shade at the top for lunch or hydration Plan on 2 hours if your in good shape 3 if you need to take breaks.

Took my 4 children up in about 1 hour and 45 minutes (3.5 hours round trip). Nicely defined trail with excellent views along the way and an amazing view from the top!

A tough hike if you are out of shape but doable. Totally worth the views along the way and at the end. Highly recommend!
