5 Stars to the kitchen, the food was so good, so delicious!! You guys rock!! I had the enchilada plate, everything was so tasty, loved the queso, salsa and chips that came with the meal. Nice restaurant atmosphere and Mexican songs I haven't heard in a long time. Very nice place 👍👍

I had an amazing experience at El Potro Mexican Cafe! The restaurant's location in a separate building surrounded by a shopping mall is fantastic, and the ample parking made it convenient. Sitting outside was a delight, and the interior design truly transported me to Mexico. The service was fast and attentive, and the extensive menu offered a wide variety of choices. The flavors were excellent, and each dish was presented in a traditional Mexican style that added to the overall experience. The spicy margaritas we ordered were a hit – not every restaurant offers them, which was a pleasant surprise. Despite the generous portions, the prices were very reasonable. El Potro Mexican Cafe definitely deserves five stars for its ambiance, flavors, drinks, and value for money!

The place is well detailed decorated with authentic Mexican theme, you feel welcome to Mexico in that environment, food is exquisite the nachos, the cheese, the salsa roja, everything taste awesome, portions are huge, I asked for chicken fajitas and Carne asada and couldn't finished all, but really enjoyed the taste, if you are in Lawrence Kansas, and you like Mexican food El Potro is the place.

My first time, my friends second time. I like thin chips and thin is what they serve. A FREE small bowl of white queso comes with the chips and salsa. Food was great! We each took home leftovers for a second meal. Very filling. I wish I could remember our servers name, he was wonderful! The women definitely aren't very friendly. Including the one who barely spoke and just tossed our chips on the table as she kept on walking not saying a word.

Amazing food and service! Value is huge! I took my oldest there the day she signed up for school at the University and it was busier but they were very fast with our food! Free chips and queso plus salsa! I got a green enchiladas and she got a fajita platter. Hers was so big we both could have ate on it! See pics! When I come back to visit I will be stopping here!

👍 Like this post if this review helped you, follow for more! 👍 Loved this restaurant! It was quick, delicious, high-quality food. The free cheese dip and kids dessert included were wonderful perks. The kids loved it as well. The staff was friendly, and they have these cool robots that help deliver food to the tables! Full 5 stars from me, if you get a chance to go here you won't regret it! 👍 Like this post if this review helped you, follow for more! 👍

Great location. Quick service. Staff, including servers, seemed a bit all over the place. There is plenty of seating, and menu options. I asked what the server preferred, steak or chicken, for my meal. She replied steak. Was brought chicken. Oh well, didn't complain and simply asked for a to go box, yet she still comped my meal. Honestly, I'd probably check out the new Mexican spot up the street for a better experience.

Dined in on an early Saturday evening and my party of four was seated right away. Friendly attentive service was provided with a wide selection on the menu. The combinations are an excellent value and I enjoyed the #6 with Chile relleno, enchilada and pork tamale plus beans and rice. Portions are very generous and tasty. In my party the seafood nachos were also highly praised, everyone enjoyed their food. Will definitely recommend and return. Observed families with children, definitely family friendly.

We really liked this place. Food was very good and service was also good. Our group ordered the fish tacos and a shrimp avocado quesadilla. The chips and salsa were great. They have thinner chips which I prefer. I would definitely recommend this place.

I love this place. They give out free cheese dip with the chips and salsa. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Lawrence. I've had several different entrees from the menu and they're all excellent. I had quesabirria tacos on my most recent visit, they were very good and filling as well. The service is always the best. They get the food out super fast as well even when they're busy. Would recommend eating here.

In my experience, this is the first Mexican eating establishment that offers queso with their chips! The waiter was good about bringing our table chips. Honestly, the chips are the most important part of a Mexican meal! Good job!

We needed a Mexican food fix in Lawrence and found it here. Chips and salsa as well as queso! We each had an entre of quesadillas, rice and beans. There was so much food we needed a boxes. I never need a box.

Elijah was a great server! Customer service was outstanding. We were seated promptly. Drink orders were taken and arrived quickly. Our meals arrived quickly and were very large portions. To go boxes were brought without asking. Dessert was offered and accepted. This was followed by drinks to go Highly recommended!

This place was packed. The service was phenomenal. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we had what we needed. The food was very good. I can't eat a lot of foods due to allergies. The tacos with the huge slices of avocado looked amazing. I had enchiladas, a beef taco, rice and beans.

The last time I was here was 6 years ago. The salsa smelled like dirty socks and tasted vile. The guacamole was pretty much lime juice and avocado and the food was most likely out of a frozen box. 😫 fast forward and we met our best friends here. First, it was happy hour! YAY! I love happy hour! The margars were 2 for 5.00 so of course, hubby and I ordered up. Best friends did too! They weren't the best I've had but certainly not the worst! Not watery with a moderate lime/tequila taste. Guacamole? SPOT ON. Really chunky with tomatoes, onion and cilantro. The salsa was a vast improvement with a bite of jalapeño along with tomatoes. I tried the habenero salsa and man, it was one of the best I've ever had. Beware, it'll sit on your taste buds for awhile. The burn is worth it. Superb! My bean burrito came out piping hot and was so smooth and flavorful! For a bland food item, El Potro knocked this out of the park. Their refried beans are crispy outside and hot and smooth inside. I'm leaving 4 stars for food and service because hubby's chicken fajitas came put sizzling hot and the popping of the food burned his legs. ☹️ we had to set it on another table to cool it off. Probably ought to take care when ordering that. Bfs chalupa was good and her hubby's pork burrito was delicious (their input, I didn't try). I boxed hubby's chicken fajitas and he'll try later. All in all, a definite 4 for food and service. Delighted this place was alot better than it used to be. P.s. chips come with salsa and a bowl of queso. Queso was cheesy and tasty!

I didn't care for it, but my grandma swears by it. Not that anything was bad, just not my taste. They do give you a free cheese-type dip with their chips, and the lunch menu prices are good and were honored on a Sunday.

The food was good and the only problem we had was they were trying to rush us. From the time we were seated until we left, a man kept asking if we needed anything else. They were not busy, so I'm not sure what the hurry was. We met there for lunch to celebrate a birthday. Next time we will meet somewhere else that doesn't mind someone occupying a table for 50 minutes.

The food was very warm and very good, the only reason I'm giving it a 4/5 is because when they give you the plate, it looks like they just slopped the food on the plate, to me it didn't look that good. But once I got past the look, the food was pretty d*mn good. The rice was warm and cooked, put on top of my cheese and onion enchilada. My pork burrito was very moist and full of flavor. The stuffed pepper was prepared very nice and it was okay. The waitress was very attentive and super nice, I think her name was Wendy. The room we ate in had lots of decor and a wall mounted TV. Will eat here again in the future.
