This place is magical with the waves lapping on the boat, the sunset, and the purple martins!

Purple Martin Majesty! So amazing! We went out to Bomb Island 7/22/2023 on my friend’s sailboat and dropped anchor close to the island’s shore. There were maybe about 10-15 other boats out there with us. The birds started swarming around the island around 8pm and continued to roost until around 9pm. We slept on the boat so that we could see them leave in the morning. We were the only ones who did that so in the morning we were all alone! They started leaving in increasingly larger groups around 6am and this continued until around 7am. Such a great experience!

The best spot to watch the sunset on the water in the summer months so you can catch the purple martins flocking to the island for the night!!!

Come between the months of July and September to see the Purple Martin migration. It is crazy! 800k to 1 million birds. At about 8:30, it looks like a tornado of birds above the island.

Loved it. We watched the purple martins return to the island for the night. So cool. Zoom in on the photo to see the birds in flight.

It is a small island sanctuary for the Purple Martin birds, a secured spot only reachable by boat, and enjoy watching the purple martins from a distance while they fly by at the end of the day. It is an awesome place to watch them.

this is such a great experience.. I really enjoyed it .. many people that live on the lake travel by boat to bomb island .. and view a natural phenomenon which is the Purple Martins, birds .. they travel to Bomb island on the lake .. to sleep there at night .. During the day they go different places like Charleston .. etc.. but they come to Bomb Island to sleep.. I have been in the morning and night time .. I go to watch them go to sleep and also wake up in the morning

A very nice island to pull up to and swim. We had the unique opportunity to see the Purple Martin migration, once in a lifetime experience. You might see the dots in the pictures, those are actually the Martin’s coming to the island to dance until the sun sets.
