We visited in December for the Ansel Adams exhibit and it was beautifully done. Everything was laid out perfectly so you could enjoy each picture individually and focus on the ones that were off most interest to you. We also loved the gift shop and the other galleries relating to lake county, Illinois history.

Great place for a short family day out and interested to know about the history of lake county. Visiting whole place should not take more than 30 min - 1 hour. There is a big replica of dinosaur, the drawing of Batman and many other superheroes. I went with my son, he enjoyed quite. I plan to go visit again with more time to go through the detailed of history of lake county. Parking is free, and there is lot of parking space. However, there is no cafe, but there is lunch area if you are bringing food from home. There is some vending machine though.

It was a great museum with just enough reading at each exhibit. It starts with the ordivician time period, which is the sea creatures that lived about 450 million years ago. Then a life size Dryptosaurus (dinosar) model with feathers. After that it exhibits Native American artifacts to modern "Marvel" art. It'll take an hour or 2 to go through, depending on how much reading you do. Staff are friendly and the facility is very clean. Plus there is ample walking space between the exhibits. I would definitely recommend going to this museum.

This a quaint little modern history museum that has some added older items for viewing. Nice place for a short museum experience and learn some local history too.

We went on a special event day that included free admission. Last time I was here was opening day. Didn't see much change since my last visit other than an art exhibit that was going on. I used to go more frequently when it was in Wauconda. I preferred it at that location, and although it is in a very much larger building, I think I spent more time looking at things than in this new location. I would like to see more vintage photos and exhibits. It is a good to visit, if you haven't already. I see they have special events for families which is a good thing.

We got free passes from our local library and decided to go. We've never been to this one since it moved. The museum seemed smaller than before. There was only 2 other couples there when we arrived and one family that quickly walked through. Staff was very nice and friendly.

Very small museum, nice things about Lake County. Dinosaur exhibit nice, but small. More for adults than kids.

An excellent place for kids and children and teens and adults of all! check out all the historical facts from Lake County to go back to the early 16 and 1700s. go back in time to see dinosaur fossils, woolly mammoth teeth and tusks, take a dinosaur dig, check out a potawatomi wigwam, and learn some amazing facts of history (and local history too)!. Highly recommend! We visit often, as we learn new things each time we visit.

Fabulous museum! LOVED the Marvelocity exhibit by comic artist Alex Ross . So many interesting things to see, especially his creative endeavors as a young child and adolescent, when these stories we love about superheroes began emerging along with his design ideas of what they should look like and how they should interact. Just brilliant! There are many other fantastic displays about the history of Lake County, including important artifacts from Fort Sheridan and many other historical documents and pieces of history. All beautifully displayed in this more spacious museum. This was my first visit and I was very impressed, there is much to be proud of, I will gladly return. Bravo to all who work there, a very special treasure in Lake County!

Very impressive collection of fossils from our area, and nice historical exhibits. Great for kids of all ages, including our 5 and 7 year olds - a number of hands-on specimens. Can cover all the exhibits in about 90 minutes. Is an especially great family outing for a rainy/cold day.

It's a small museum but it has some cool interactive displays. When you enter its loke you're going through time. Each section is a new time zone. The gift shop is the first place you enter and buy your tickets. Tickets are cheap. We spent about an hour and a half in the museum, but you could obviously spend more if you read all the plaques. The staff was inviting.

I used to go to the old location when my kids were young and we always liked it. This was the first time in the new location. Very nice. My wife arranged a group of about 12 friends to go and all enjoyed the exhibits. The folks there are nice and helpful as well. Will be back for sure.

A small but high quality experience for all ages. We visited with a 1.5 year old, two 30 somethings, and two 50 somethings and everyone enjoyed themselves. Local history, natural history, and a rotating-small-temporary exhibit space are all on display. There is adequate parking, friendly staff, clean family friendly restrooms, and a small gift shop. If you're in the area I would recommend visiting. The hours are a bit strange so be sure you review them.

Pleasantly sursprised by enjoyable exihibits. It has been designed well and it is well taken care of in all its parts. My children loved it, as did I, as did my parents. It was a perfect visit on a cold and cloudy day. Its worth it and its very affordable.

An easy-to-understand introduction to the history of Lake County from ancient times to modern times. There are fossil exhibits, interesting videos, and some play areas related to the exhibits, which is great fun for the little ones. The souvenir shop is also attractive. I stayed for about an hour and a half, and I thoroughly enjoyed it with my family.

This is a lovely museum about our local history! The exhibits flow extremely well. The museum has a lot of awesome pieces of history but avoids being too cluttered or overwhelming. There is an extremely important and respectfully curated exhibit about indigenous people from the Lake County area. The modern history of specific townships was delightful. The voice overs by Wait Wait Don't Tell Me... host Bill Kurtis (a Mettawa native) were a nice touch. This is an asset to our county!

We took our girl scout troop for the Native Drum Circle and Storytelling this evening. The gentleman were entertaining and told good stories. The girls learned a lot and we came away wanting to do this again. Who knew we could have such a great experience so close at hand and it was free!

What a great experience. Learning Lake County history is fun and acts as a reminder to my kids that great things come from right around them. It is also fun to learn the names of people that founded towns we live in. The Marvel exhibit was also a blast for my kids.

This was a neat little museum. It laid out the history of the country and the region as you walked through, from prehistoric to industrial times as you walk through. Noticeably, each of the rooms have some hands-on exhibits such as digging for bones or feeling soft pelts, which helps to keep the attention of kids.
