Unprofessional. I booked and paid a deposit for a 2-week Portuguese course. I travelled to Lisbon and arranged accommodation for the duration of the course. When I arrived for the class on Monday morning I was informed that the course had been cancelled! I received no prior notification of this, which I find extremely unprofessional. Fortunately I was able to enroll on a similar course at Iberlinguas, who I found to be much more professional.

Excellent experience. I was granted a bursary by the European Parliament for an e-course to study Portuguese in the summer of 2020. I chose Português Et Cetera in Lisbon as a learning institution, as its educational offer included online courses and courses for interpreters. I had a good learning experience and I recommend Português Et Cetera because: - The course was tailored to my needs – it was focused on important aspects of Portuguese culture and vocabulary building; oral comprehension was prioritized and engaging audio-visual material was used; - I was assigned a highly-qualified teacher with extensive experience with online Portuguese teaching for international students; - The teacher showed flexibility regarding the planning of training sessions; - The school showed full flexibility and understanding of my needs as an interpreter working at the EP.

I attended an intensive course a few years ago, it was great, small group, very good and nice teacher. Good price for service. Can recommend.

Catarina is my teacher, she had endless energy and creativity for teaching Portuguese and extremely prepared each day. Very engaging, multi-modal class (read, speak, write, listen with video, recording, pictures, conversation prompts, tons of grammar). A three-hour class goes right by and I have pages of useful notes each day. I started at the A2 level and I hope to continue. The class is taught in English.

An open minded school, allowing for a personal track with an effective pedagogic approach (lots of talking, interesting topics of debate, attention for everyone in the group) with heartwarming passionate teachers. I had compared 3 schools in Lisbon and this one came out best and the experience was great. Big fan of Joana’s enthousiasm and Indira’s choice of cultural topics of debate.

I had a wonderful experience with this school! I arranged a month AirBnB in Lisbon, a short walk from the school. I live in the Azores and decided to focus my learning for a month. Having already taken an A1/A2 class, I arranged private lessons, 3 times weekly to try to learn the B1 material. My teacher, Catarina, was fantastic! She was organized and knew from the very first day the exact lessons that she would give to maximize my learning. While speaking Portuguese is usually best, at times English is most efficient and concise and I would appreciate her absolutely perfect English explanation. Her understanding of English and relating it to Portuguese terms was truly impressive! Also, she was kind and fun and I learned so much and felt happy after every lesson, and I felt accomplished at the end. I have much work to go but would hands-down recommend this school and Catarina as a phenomenal teacher. I wanted to mention that her "cheat sheets" that she created to teach the main points of a lesson were of tremendous help. She is a natural teacher and understands the framework needed, which is a special gift. Obrigada e boa sorte! (p.s. The school is right on Rua do Carmo, just opposite the Santa Justa elevador, and also the Rooftop Carmo (almost next door) is a fun place to go after class! :))

I did a one week course to prepare for the DIPLE-B2 level exam and I am so glad I did. I spoke a little bit of proper portuguese, but mainly portunhol since spanish is my native language, but with the help of this course I really think I improved massively. While my case is a bit extreme cause Im preparing for an exam, Im confident than this classes will help anyone who wants to improve their portuguese level. Muito Obrigada!

Came to Portugal for a few weeks & wanted to learn a bit of Portuguese. Found this language school & contacted them to see if I could have a few private lessons in the apartment I rented... ended up taking over 20 private lessons! Ana Rita was efficient in replying & extremely helpful, & the teacher I had (Indira) was exceptional- always on time, came well prepared & adapted the lessons to my goal of being able to book a table in a restaurant/order food to being able to ask for items in a shop/supermarket. I highly recommend Português Et Cetera if you are keen on learning Portuguese!

Teacher Pedro is a great professional. I had a wonderful time learning Portuguese during several months and got the necessary level that will help me in my work and just while traveling to Portugal. I really enjoyed that I could get information not only about European Portuguese but also the Brazilian Portuguese. Highly recommended!!!!

I found the Portuguese lessons very dynamic and helpful. We did many different activities: speaking, listenings, grammar. If you are looking for a Portuguese School, this is definitely the place! The only thing I would wish is the addition of extra courses for Spanish or Italian Speakers.

I choosed this language school - among other things - because of the many positive reviews. After which I experienced a very good experience myself (2 weeks intensive course in a group of 3 other students), I would therefore like to highly recommend this school: Communication/Service/Organization: The communication beforehand was professional, quick and always very helpful answers to all kinds of questions and doubts (thanks, Ana Rita); a placement test, to determine the language level, is offered in written form in advance. Another one is also carried out by phone call with the educational director of the school. In case of public holidays for example or unexpected room occupancy, the team reacts very flexibly and accommodating to the needs of the course participants. Institution: The school is an language institution officially recognized by the Portuguese Government and meets high educational standards. The lessons are exclusively in Portuguese and the use of English only serves in case of major difficulties in understanding. The course groups are very well thought out and divided according to the individual language level. An official certificate issued by the Portuguese Ministry of Education is given at the end of the course. Teacher/lessons: Good teaching materials are provided. Lessons with multimedia exercises. Listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and communication are encouraged and trained in well-balanced classes. Catarina was my teacher and she is a very experienced, dedicated and intelligent teacher. She was listening and responding to the students wishes and special learning needs or individual difficulties. Well-considered and always with a good sense of humour she was also teaching cultural aspects of Portugal by choosing well-thought subjects. I learned a lot thanks to her and develloped my Portuguese.

I am currently studying my 2 weeks intensive course and I cannot be happier. Ana Rita and Fernanda since the beginning have been really helpful with my necessities and Marilia is an exceptional teacher; always explaining the topics we cover very clear to be sure you understand perfectly. A very good thing is the 3 hours course the only language spoken is Portuguese, for me it makes a difference as it helps me a lot to know how to pronounce the different type of words (and Portuguese has lots of different pronunciations!) As a Spanish, Portuguese is very similar language but also, I tent to mix the language a lot and since I am assisting this class, I already felt an improvement! Definitely will continue with the school to develop my Portuguese once I finish my course. Muito obrigada!

We reserved a Portuguese beginner course for 2 weeks at this language school in Lisbon. After the 3 day we left, because this was not a beginners class this was a daily social coffee talk coming together, but NOT a language class. No real material was handed out. We joined to learn Portuguese, NOT to have cultural talks in English about Portugal. For the first day this might be ok, but ....

Thankyou so much to Indira who has really helped me gain more confidence in speaking Portuguese this summer. I had a pretty good grasp on the language before but never really have the opportunity to speak very much day to day - in 3 months, my speaking skills have really improved and I also feel a lot more comfortable with the more complicated grammar constructions. What I also loved was that I've been given really great resources like music and film recommendations so I can continue to practice and learn on my own. Thanks Portuguese Etc!

They were very accommodating in setting me up with classes on short notice, and the school is conveniently located in downtown Lisbon. The classes themselves are also very engaging and both of the teachers I had, Indira and Filipa, were kind and helpful. I would highly recommend them.

Teacher Madalena's way of teaching was always brilliant and never boring. My class was also perfect for my needs, with all students at the same level. The staff has always been very friendly and attentive to my needs. I highly recommend!

Travelled to Lisbon to study beginner course in portugese. Chose this school because of their pre communication-Ana is a delight. My tutor was Madalena and there were two other students. Madalena is a great teacher. I had been doing (Brazilian) Portugese on Duolingo for 10 months - nothing like the real thing. I knew a lot of words - Madalena helped me say and use them with great patience, humour and expertise. The course was a great balance of speaking, writing, conversation and some small amount of homework. The hours are 10:30 to 1:30 which allowed lots of time to explore Lisbon and practice learnings with the location of a school being in centre of city. The cherry on the cake was a free cultural tour to a museum and a cathedral. The whole experience was fantastic. Highly recommended and I will return to do the next module as soon as I can.

Taking the longer, less intensive class here. I appreciate the pace, the teachers, and how the lessons are laid out. Plus it's been great to practice Portuguese with my classmates! Will likely continue on to the next level once this one finishes.

Very good experience with the Portugues Etcetera School. We appreciated the flexibility and forward thinking to help us make the best of those twee weeks, both on practical as a schedule level. Having daily lessons in a beautifull parc amongst the coronavirus was a blessing. Joana and Indira were professional and good teachers. We learned a lot, and all of us are motivated to continue our journey in the Portugese language. Indira, you you were very sweet, well prepared and the boys appreciated your teachings skills and patience. Joana, I appreciated your directness and urge to move forward. I have more confidence now that learning this language is doable and a feasible aim. Thanks for everything.

Very good small but nice school in the heart of Lisbon. I have already attended lessons at school myself and am currently learning Portuguese online. It's fun and the communication is very reliable. We recommend.

I would highly recommend this school to start your journey in learning Portuguese. I did an intensive course for beginners and found the class structure and materials really helpful with understanding Portuguese. My teacher Filipa was great and more than willing to help you with any problems you were having.

I have been taking courses with Portuguese Et Cetera since March of 2023. By the end of the first month, I could have basic interactions with locals, and 6 months later I can have conversations, understand a lot, and and have even started reading intro level books in Portuguese. I even managed to do an emergency room visit all in Portuguese! My teacher is super kind, encouraging, and knowledgeable. She always breaks things down in an easy to understand way and brings a positive welcoming atmosphere to every class. The prices of the courses are also great and there's lots of options for different schedules. I've recommended the school to all of my friends in Lisbon.

I started attending the course at the beginning of October 2023. I was looking for something that allowed me to improve my Portuguese, that wouldn’t cost me a fortune and that had flexible timetables. The classes consist of just the right number of people to let everybody practice their speaking. Teacher Catarina is very nice and encourages us to ask questions, gives us very useful grammar tips and corrects our mistakes revising and integrating rules and common speech. It’s been a really lovely experience so far!

I started my beginner Portuguese language course in October 2023. This is a small international group. I love our classes, where there is a lot of fun. It is a really joyful learning.
