In finding souvenirs from Portugal, canned seafood is a must! Notorious for its Sardines, we knew had had to get a couple cans of something… My wife found this shop through her research and was it a learning experience! The varieties of canned seafood on offer from various canneries was dizzying at first, but the woman working the register was so friendly and helpful in assisting us with what to get. I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for a well designed label, so in picking out what to get, this was a challenging task! Every tin is beautiful and each cannery brings there own style, from retro to modern. Of course, the fish on offer is what our decision should be based on, but the labels are just too beautiful! Anyways, I digress; this is a great shop for some truly fantastic products from Portugal!

This is a restaurant and a tinned fish shop next to each other. At the restaurant I had the cuttlefish with garlic and coriander for 12 euros. It was ok but not sure I’d have it again. Staff were welcoming and quick with service. The outdoor seating area is peaceful whilst giving you a view of the main street. The shop is nicely arranged with lots of different brands of tinned sardines. Staff here will help with recommendations. Most tins cost between 4-5 euros.

The food was alright. Maybe the service could be a little friendlier. All together it was a good experience!

There is a nice little restaurant next to the sardine store. They actually seem to belong together. If you are in the area, having lunch there is totally recommendable. The Bolinhos de Bacalhau, the Pimentas de Pádron and the cheese stood out to us.

Staff are courteous and helpful although a bit militaristic in making sure you put the sardine cans back on the shelf as it was before you pulled it off the shelf, which is why the place is immaculate clean (thanks to the two lady generals manning the store) The place has been here for five years. They carry many unique fish canned products I bought four sardine patte round cans for my folks back home.

Loja das Conservas is located along Rua do Arsenal and is open from 10am to 8pm daily. This is a project sponsored by the National Association of Canned Fish Industry that runs a neatly decorated and managed shop selling over 300 different canned fish and related products from over 17 Portuguese based fish canneries. The various companies are highlighted within the shop if you want to learn about them. They each have a section where you find their colourful and creatively packaged tins of canned mackerel, tuna, octopus and sardines. During our visit we purchased a couple tins of mackerel and spicy mackerel which we took back home and enjoyed recently. For those looking for genuine gifts, especially Portuguese food items that are easy to pack and travel back home, a visit to Loja das Conservas to pick up 2-3 beautifully packaged, traditional tins of canned fish is worth consideration while in Lisbon.

Wide range of beautiful canned sardines. Stories behind each family and company catching and tinning them. Expert staff on hand to guide you to your ideal tin. Considered one of the best in Lisbon due to its support and conservation for the art of the catch.

There are a shop and a restaurant next to each other. The shop offer lot of options and ranges for can fish from different brands. We brought some to try. The staff are very nice and friendly. Speak good English and give you lot of explanation on the products. I think more than 50 different variety to choose from. The restaurant is not recommended. We tried Sardine grill. The can fish doesn’t taste that good. The fried sautéed pepper is good. Sweet potato chips are old and broken. But the most annoying thing is the urine smell when you sit in the al fresco area. because it is directly on the street, i guess drunk people using the area in the evening when the restaurant closes. It’s look nice in the picture and set-up but you can’t really smell it until you sit down. We will definitely come back for the shopping but not the restaurant.

What an amazing hidden little gem in the heart of Lisbon. Conserved food with a twist. Delicious tapas made authentically, sometimes in front of you at the table (grilled sardines are a must) and all with good service and value for money. A truly authentic and heart warming experience.

Those beautiful, one-of-a-kind can marking stickers evoke memories of my childhood, when kids would collect cigarette and match casings as collectibles, much like stamp collecting. I'm curious how much it would cost in total to buy a box of each of the store's exhibits

Loved selections of all kinds of sardines. While there we tried a piece of parrot fish with a small piece of bread. It was good. I got a tomato sauce orange can. It was 7.65 euros

Alles Topp...sehr gerne beim nächsten Mal wieder.

We were twice there. Very nice personnel. All petiscos we tried were really good! Cod croquettes - recommended, you will not try better cod in Lisbon.

Unfortunately food was really bad and service was worse. Waiters kept arguing with each other and blamed everything on chefs. At some point all customers began to complain and everyone quickly paid their tabs and left. P.S: they overcharged the tab and we had to make them correct it!

Completely unexpected. The attached restaurant has some of the best dishes. The tuna in mustard sauce was an unusual but delicious choice. The grilled sardines were grilled right at the table. Oh wow.

Very bad and unpolite service. The dishes have nothing to do with the menu. Small portions. The food was not tasty. In fact, the worst place in my stay for 10 days here.

Great place. Recommended far above the alternatives nearby. They offer products from a range of canneries and the staff, friendly and available, are happy to talk through each and make recommendations

We had one of our very favorite meals in Lisbon there! A very pleasant surprise in a quiet setting. The wait staff was engaging and all 4 of us loved our meals!

This shop is amazing and is actually what we were looking for in Lisbon. It features all companies that are members of the Portuguese National Association of Canned Fish Producers. The people there are friendly and knowledgeable. So much fun!
