So incredibly beautiful. Mass is week days at 7 pm but if you arrive at 6 pm you can see the sun shining through the stain glass in front windows and paint the altar with a rainbow of light.

The bell rings every day, illegally, at 7:55. Then, sometimes it also plays at 7:58. Even on Saturdays and Sundays, not allowing people to rest. Even after a conversation with the parish priest, the situation did not change. I think it is a real lack of empathy and kindness for others that outdated traditions are maintained (everyone has a watch these days, there is no need for a bell) and that they harm the well-being of everyone who lives around them. We live in a secular state, but we are forced to have our right to silence and rest violated by a tradition of the Catholic religion.

It is a 17th century church, nothing exceptional at first glance, but it is linked with the history of Lisbon. In fact it is said that in the 4th century, during the persecution of Diocletian, Verissimo, Maxima and Giulia (brother and sisters) found their martyrdom in this place. A new church was built on the site in 1147. The church that we can admire today was the result of radical interventions in 1696 by the architect. José Antunes and the restorations of 1861 and 1876. In the main altar, placed on a throne, you can admire the three saints, co-patrons of the city. A curiosity for those who love painting: at the Carlos Machado Museum - Ponta Delgada - you can see the four panels depicting the announcement and martyrdom of the martyrs of Lisbon, the work of the Portuguese painter Garcia Fernandes 1530

👍👍 Beautiful place. It's such a pleasure to be here in any season in full sun or under the moon. The Belem tower is awesome ! This fortress in the middle of the Tagus has been the starting point for the navigators who set out to discover the trade routes. The expansive spirit is still present here. En...
