😠 They try really hard to scam people. I told them that I do not want any vehicle insurance (since my CC covers it). Then they were insisting that the extra insurance charge on the contract is for the "third party insurance". Do not fall for this scam, third party insurance is included in the base rat... People often mention Budget, rental, service, insurance, told, airport, experience, scratch, rent, company,

They try really hard to scam people. I told them that I do not want any vehicle insurance (since my CC covers it). Then they were insisting that the extra insurance charge on the contract is for the "third party insurance". Do not fall for this scam, third party insurance is included in the base rate as they cannot rent a car without it. Of course when I started asking questions about it the clerk suddenly had very bad English.

The experience was smooth, they just need to be more organized with car pickups as they are a bit all over the place as there is no system. You gotta run after them to let them know you picking up a car. Make sure you inspect your car before leaving by taking a video of any dent , scratch you find as there is no proper joint inspection with the budget employees before you leave with the car. They might try to make you accountable for a scratch or dent that was there already.

Total scam. We called, booked and paid upfront, but at the front desk she refused to give the car and kept our money. NEVER use their service!

Had to wait 45 minutes in noisy garage to receive a car. Staff was telling me that it will be ready in 5 minutes but it was postponed numerous times. In my opinion other car should have been provided or free upgrade to higher class, especially taking into account that full insurance coverage was purchased as extra.

The collection of the car at the airport was smooth and the 7 seater car was fine. However, after a few days the car had a maintenance problem, was not working and the tow truck came to collect it. I called Budget around 10 times trying to speak to customer service (separate department from independent tow truck company) but no-one answers the phone. The tow truck company told me they don't answer the phone and that I needed to go in person to the airport. With five small children this was not possible without a guarantee a 7 seater car would be available. We therefore made alternative arrangements and requested a refund for the remaining days. There is no point in calling and I have sent a number of emails and one week later I am still awaiting a response. Budget clearly has no customer service. BUDGET SEE BELOW - you have the reference below and my name. Your generic message below is of no value, you don't respond to emails or answer the phone so directing me to a social media channel emphasizes your lack of actual customer service! I read a lot of mixed reviews about all hire companies at Lisbon Airport. However, I was delighted with Budget. They were great on the pre-booking information where I completed a lot of the information ahead of time. When I got to the desk only 1 person ahead of me and the was car waiting. SUV. All good. Dropped it off in central Lisbon which was perfect and super quick. Couldn’t fault it. Hope this gives readers some confidence. Thanks Budget.

Do not rent here. My rental agreement specified $317 for my rental, provided I returned with full gas. I returned the car, I have pictures proving no damage and full gas at return. my card was charged $795 PLUS an additional $107 two days later. I have received no communication for these charges. I have sent emails, called multiple times, and have been unable to reach anyone in community service. This seems to be an easy scam system for traveling renters, they know it’s much harder to follow up on these when you cannot physically show up to the location to figure out why they have taken your money. I will never rent from budget again and it puts a bad taste in my mouth for the entire car rental system out of Lisbon.

Not the most welcoming greeting at the office. We got an electric car capacity of which supposed to be 340 kilometres n reality it was 170 kilometers. Because of that we were late for drop off and needed to pay for an extra day. We had to charge the car 3 times to go from porto to lisbon. Also the fluid for the front window was at zero. Back camera wasn't working. The staff didn't seem to know anything about electric cars. We ended up paying almost two time more than we originally expected.

I would give it no stars if I could. We have been waiting in line for an hour to pick up a car that has already been reserved. I rent cars on a very regular basis from many company’s and have never seen anything like this. It’s worth mentioning this does not look like it’s unusual at this location in any way. Criminally understaffed and over-booked. Same goes for AVIS at this location they are partnered. I would rent from any other company at this airport if you're able.

First we lined up at the “in-terminal” counter just to be told 15 minutes later that since we were not priority renters that we had to go to a separate counter at the Car Rental Center. No big deal since that was connected to the terminal via a covered short walkway. There it was a take-a-number and wait-for-your-turn arrangement. Though our wait was slightly over an hour, we held back just not to undermine our holiday moods. The counter staff we had was apparently new in his job and needed to seek help from his colleagues at times. Fine, this happens everywhere nowadays. Then he was very aggressive in selling additional insurance coverage to the extent that the insurance cost more than the rental. OK we thought, at least now we had the peace of mind. Then without even asking he added purchase of the first tank of gas in our contract and told us he could not change the contract once it was typed up. We eventually got our car which was fairly new at 28,000+km but was clearly poorly maintained. The oil change warning light came on in the second day but we thought that could withstand the week we had the car. The real shxx was that the right rear tyre was constantly leaking pressure and we needed to find gas stations every other day just to restore the pressure. Upon car return, the staff showed an indifferent expression when we told her these problems. I apologize for this rather long post but this was simply (not one of) the worst car rental experience we have had over the past 30+ years. Period.

After waking up at 5 am, dealing with metros/subways/flights all morning, all we wanted to do was grab our rental car scheduled for 10 am pickup. We arrive at approximate time to an empty Avis/Budget booth and are told to go to a separate building because we were not “priority pickup.” Which would’ve been fine, if it weren’t for the fact that the “non priority” booth located in a separate building away had a 2-3 hour wait time. What really put the cherry on top for us was the fact that every other counter was empty for almost the entirety of the hours spent waiting. There were 6 seats open for people to check in but only 3 workers for 90% of the time while priority (still empty) was seemingly over staffed. We then we’re told our contract information (which was never emailed to us) very briefly and we’re sent to pick up our car. The lady told us incorrect directions which had us practically walking around in circles for 30 minutes. I’ve heard a lot about scamming from this place. It scares me a bit that the contract was so briefly gone over and our card was charged a price that we only assume was a a deposit? So watch out for that. A few times during this experience deeply considered throwing away this entire booking and heading over to ANY of the other rental car agencies which NEVER had a line.

If you book through Expedia they will disregard the rate and mark up your rental. They will also provide an EV with no charger. Extremely long wait to be able to pick up the car. They charge double for gas and put a block on the car to force you to buy their overpriced gas. Apathetic and unhelpful. They take advantage of limited options and also jack up the price with an "airport tax," for picking up your car at the airport. Every possible fee they can find, they will add. They will also try and scare you into buying the insurance by claiming they will charge you for the full value of the car if you put a single scratch on it. Which is likely also a lie. Roundly bad experience. Seek alternatives.

Renting a car from any company and not expecting to pay at least 15% more than your "online reservation price" is like going out for a walk with a serial killer and hoping to be home for dinner. Say "no" to paying upfront for the gas in the tank, say "no" to extra insurance, say "no" to everything and somehow it will still be more.

I was told, that they would send the signed contract via email. BUT I never received it. I tried to reach them via phone call and email, but noone is responding. THE BIGGEST JOKE IS THAT I WAS CHARGED MORE THAN IT WAS PEOMISED!! But I cant check it. No contract on my hand.

Post relates to hire of a Peugeot 208 from Lisbon airport - hire was with Budget, but I believe the service agent was from Avis. We chose Budget over several smaller car hire companies as we thought a 'big name' would mean more transparency and a better level of service, but this was not the case On collection, the customer service agent was unclear on costs for additional drivers and some other costs, and incorrect regarding the fuel policy. Costs relating to the fuel policy were rectified after a call to customer service, but we still ended up paying around 90 Euro more than expected for five days of car hire. Hugely unimpressed.

Over 2hr wait to get a car. I booked my car using Kayak/wisecars and had to take a number at the Budget counter to get service, I have 80 people in front of me!!! Everyone is upset to wait 2hr to get a rental car!

I need to reconsider my opinion. Firstly I was fully satisfied and gave them 5 stars. This night a month after renting the car my bank has blocked unathorized transaction from Budget car rental Lisbon. AVOID RENTING A CAR FROM THEM! Or at least block your credit card afterwards

So we ran the car online and we picked up the insurance for full coverage. When we got to the counter the attendant told us that we had picked the basic coverage up to $2,000. I didn't pick up the other coverage because they wanted $30 more a day. The attendant also wanted to charge an extra day because I was returning it or picking it up an hour earlier so I told them I'd drop it off an hour earlier which brought it back down to two days rental. I went on a 2-hour drive one way and filled up the tank with 64 euros. When I return the vehicle the attendant told me I had to fill up half the tank when it only showed 3/4 full which was another 46 euros. The Q at the airport was almost an hour long. I probably will not rent with budget again in Europe. Seems like the whole experience was a scam. The only positive thing was the tenant ran out of the budget vehicle that I had selected and gave me an upgrade. Make sure you take pictures of the vehicle damage when you pick it up. The return attendant does check for additional damage if any. Renters beware.

Rental Agreement Number: 360154185 The rental was fine until the car was returned. The left front door was damaged: a small scratch in a parking lot. We have full insurance, we paid a deposit of 200 euro We received a bill for 401 euros at the time of handover. Afterwards we received two invoices by e-mail: 401 euro + 200 euro (deposit) and 357 euro. 958 in total for a 2x1,5 cm scratch. However, the invoices cannot be interpreted. For example, one of them shows a rental fee, which we paid in advance. The credit card was charged 457 euros, which correspondes to a new invoices, but we have so far paid 657 euros for the small scratch. Swindle, fraud, rubbish. We will seek legal advice. Unreachable by e-mail and telephone from the car hire company.

I'm driving rentals every 2-3 weeks on business trips and often also on holidays. But this was the worst rental experience I've had. First they forced a downgrade on me as they didn't have the booked and confirmed size. Claiming the size I booked doesn't exist on the website...well that was easy to disprove. Then continued lying to my face as in their garage they had plenty of larger vehicles. When confronted with this, claiming that they can't adjust my booking and I can only choose of smaller vehicles. After returning the car a scratch was found and charged, okay. But charges for idle time of the car also showed in the invoice. Like they would repair it immediately...that's not how it works with rental cars otherwise all cars would be in top shape. I expect my lawyer will fix this as they will have to prove the idle time. I can only strongly recommend to avoid Avis/Budget at Lisbon airport. Read the reviews and save yourself troubles. Others also have bad reviews but in my experience Si*t is at least more competent and fair once troubles/surprises arise.

Catastrophe.... We were sold insurance of 90 euros (for a rental car for 48 hours), even though we were already insured through check 24!!! When we spoke to the staff at the counter, they just said that it was our problem. We would have already signed the contract by now. Mess and rip off!!!! In addition, there are long queues and unfriendly staff, the supervisor in particular is absolutely unfriendly and arrogant. Doesn't address the problem, just sits on his cell phone and dismisses customers with their problems. It looks like this is done a lot here and customers are ripped off. The other recessions show that we were not the only ones with this problem and the rip-off scam. Absolutely thumbs down and 0 stars!!!

Rental Agreement Number: 360147631: It looks like the Budget/Avis adopted a new technique to overcharge their customers. Rented a car for one day, and when returned it the company employee found a small scratch on Front Left Alloy Wheel. I've protested his assessment asking for the photo of Front Left Alloy Wheel prior to the rent. He said he doesn't have any photos but he is pretty sure that the scratch is the new one. It was impossible to convince him that he maybe wrong in his assessment but he said the administration demands from the employees to find whatever possible and impossible ways to increase the company revenue. If this is not a fraud what fraud is ? Stay away from Budget/Avis otherwise you will be defrauded.

Overall I am giving Budget only 4 stars because of the hour and a half wait picking up the vehicle. Otherwise, the service was excellent and the drop off was seamless. I would recommend getting their insurance because a friend told me she was charged $500 for minor scratches.

We rented a car from Lisbon to Porto. The staff was super nice and patient in the airport to go through the whole process to get our car. They adapted their processes to the Covid 19 situation and we highly appreciated this point after coming from a long flight. The car we got was as asked, quite new, perfectly clean and with no problem at all. We drove safely back to Porto and drop the car at their agency in Porto airport. It was super quick and efficient as well. Thanks for the perfect service !

Really bad… We booked them via Rentalcars due to their rating (could have gotten goldcar for half the price). At they counter they refused to take my credit card (N26). I have a business card never has an issue before… they didn’t even try!

The queue to pick up was between 2 to 3 hours wait. Abandoned that and went to Sixt with immediate service. Wrote off cost of hire with Budget as a bad experience. Just don't!

We rented a car from Budget today and had a nice experience with the initial agent. We did not think we needed to take photos of the car. However, it turns out when we returned the car it had a scratch on the hubcap. We did not cause this and were not aware of this. When returning the car we informed the agent that we did not cause this but he would not listen. Told us to file a claim. That is what we will do but overall very disappointed by this experience. This is not the first time we have had issues with budget rentals. This will be the last time we utilize this company. It is not our fault they did not notice the scratch. It is not our responsibility to pay for something that we did not cause. After contacting this company, I received a refund. Therefore have adjusted my review.

Terrible!! This should be a 0 star review. Booked to pick up car at 11pm on Friday night. Plane was delayed and when we arrived at midnight at the Budget/Avis counter it was closed! All other rental companies were open and helping customers. Had to pay 40 euros to get taxi to hotel. Will Budget refund this? I doubt it! Saturday morning have been calling the various numbers provided and any I can research and none of them work. Either saying office is closed or just ending the call. This is really awful service. Seems like the only way is to get another 40 euro taxi back to the airport. Will update further later.

What a scam. As already mentioned in previous reviews (I wish I have read before renting) these people try to pin extra wrongful charges at whatever cost. I had a rental voucher from qeeq and purchased insurance from qeeq. There were no problems when we picked up the car or when we drove it. Upon returning the car however it was "inspected" by one of their employees who found two minor "scratches" on the wheel and the wheel cover on the right and took photo's of these. I told him this was not our doing and even showed him the scratches disappear with water but that did not make a difference and he said he must report it. I asked for a supervisor which refused to speak to me or see the disappearing "scratch" and just ignored me. I then got charged an extra of over 800 Euro for those non existent scratches without details on the invoice. I was also charged in excess of what was on my voucher for taxes and airport charges and what not (again no detail and no invoice mailed to me) that were already charged originally on my voucher. I exchanged a few emails with the customer service of Budget global who were not helpful at all and even tried saying that the car is not inspected locally but they send it out for inspection which was an utter lie since the guy took the pictures at the airport. In short, it seems to me that if you don't have insurance with Budget locally, they try to pin all sorts of excessive charges on the renter. It seems to be a thing they do repeatedly judging from previous reviews so be aware of this. Also, the level of service in the returning station is so poor and disrespectful that I would have given them a 0 rating if possible.
