Firstly, it must be said that this plant isn't just simply giant, it is historic, too. The tree's presence is huge, indomitable, and awe-inspiring, but also reassuring, calming and altogether humbling. Before I made a pilgrimage to the tree, I felt hollow, broken, incomplete, as though my life was without purpose, and I was destined to forever go around in circles. The moment I sighted the tree, I was filled with such vibrant joy, the likes of which I can never equate to, but must be similar to a child on Christmas finding every present they ever wished for under the tree. However, the present this tree gives you is not physical, no, it is a mental, spiritual and psychological aura you shall carry for the rest of your life, that makes you feel you may achieve any goal you set your heart on, in life, love, or labour. It imbues you with the power of self confidence, that you may be whomever you wish to be, and that the tree will guide you to your ultimate destiny, overcoming any obstacle through its sheer power. When I placed my hand on its trunk, and felt its supple, enormous green leaves, I was immediately moved to tears. As I sank to my knees and openly cried in the street, for lack of being able to properly articulate the feeling of glory I was basking in, my body started to glow and hover above the path, as this incredible, omniscient, beautiful tree granted me eternal life and the power of flight, amongst other things. Visit the tree. Let it change your life.

August 8, 2023 14:34. This was the date that changed my life. When I googled things to do in Lisbon there were the typical tourist attractions that you can see anywhere- An old cathedral, a historic fortress on a hill, a marketplace that sells the same 15 things as every other tourist market. Then I saw it. The Historic Giant Plant. What plant species could it be? Why is it Historic? Why is it Giant? There were too many questions and not enough answers, I needed to see it for myself. The pilgrimage from my hostel to the plant was around 20,000 steps but it was all worth it when I laid eyes on the majestic fauna. For some odd reason there were no crowds of people surrounding the plant. Instead it was located in a quaint little area between 2 quiet restaurants; a beautiful area for a plant to grow strong without disturbance. When I approached the plant I noticed some of the branches have been trimmed which may indicate it was growing too powerful which wasn’t hard to imagine. I’m not sure who takes care of the plant but it looked well maintained and was well attached to the surrounding wall and tiny pot. Looking at pictures doesn’t do it justice you need to see the plant in person to get a grasp of the height and girth of this majestic tree. I scanned the leaves with an app that can identify plants however the app came back with nothing. Perhaps this is an undiscovered species. Seeing the Giant plant grow from the base of such a tiny pot seems to defy the laws of nature and physics. From what I saw my best guess for how this plant has grown so large out of such a small pot is due to its roots connecting to the electrical box attached to the building. I asked a local who worked at the shop next to the plant and he said it was magic. The only way to conclude this for yourself is to make the journey and form your own opinion in person. If you don’t see anything else in Lisbon see the Giant Historic Plant.

I beg your garden?! This plant was amazing! We got here around tree o’clock and didn’t want to leave. I’ve seen many a-plants in my day but ain’t nothing, NOTHING compares to this beauty. This was THE best site in Lisbon to see. 10/10 would recommend. If you’re debating on coming to Lisbon, let the Historic Giant Plant be the reason why. Brought me to tears.

I LOVE THIS PLANT! I paid a great price for my ticket, and the audio tour was beautiful, highly recommend! Insane more people don’t go here, it’s a known fact you can visit inside the tree and eat at the restaurant underground, very nifty. Try to go as early as possible so it’s not too packed, very difficult to shove through the crowds of people to see this beloved monument of Portugal.

And so we travelled 5482kms to see this very tree. Sure, it’s got a small pot. Maybe its foliage is humble. But it stands tall and proud and breathes the very same air as us. In its own way, it’s a true symbol of our existence. It is making its way through life, one tree day at a time.

Not only is this plant historic but also giant! We were really thrown off of our feet by the first glimpse of this marvel of nature. Sadly the locals have lost the appeal for something serene of this calibre. I would definitely recommend this highlight to anyone visiting Portugal for work or vacation. Just be prepared before you lay your eyes on this magnanimous beauty, the place has something divine to it and you suddenly feel small and meaningless in front of the historic and giant nature of the plant.

A greater sight I have never seen. The moment I laid my eyes upon this immaculate gem of Lisbon, I knew my purpose in life. I felt the timeless aura of its presence emanating from its core as it stood, towering over my puny, mortal body. Breathless, I basked in its beauty for several moments before my soul returned to my corporeal form and I understood peace.

Travel is about experience. You get to see new places, hear new languages, meet new people, see how they live. Each country, or even each city, has evolved their own culture, reflecting the biomes and nature that make up ecosystem in which they can be found. Lisbon is no different. The history is directed by its location as a port city, the food lead by sea and the hills. If you only look at part of an ecosystem, you miss out on the beauty that creates a virtuous cycle of life that make up the ways in which we live. With that said, how can you miss out on Historic Giant Plant? Is it the most historic? I can’t be sure. The most giant? Certainly not. But can you say you’ve truly been to Lisbon if you haven’t seen it? I’d have to say no. Must see.

Walking by on the street, you probably wouldn't notice this plant. We went to see it because it was on the list of things to see in Lisbon. The plant is large, but I don't know that I would take time out of my day to come and see this plant. It states it's a historic giant plant. What's the history? I could not find any information online regarding this plant. If it's so great and historic, why is there no information, no plaque, nothing?

Visiting the Historic Giant Plant was an unparalleled marvel that left me utterly speechless! Oh, the sheer grandeur and awe-inspiring beauty of this botanical wonder were unlike anything I had ever witnessed before. But the most astonishing and incredible aspect was the revelation that this magnificent spectacle was nothing more than a normal, ordinary and completely common green plant! A plant with such historic significance, yet so humble in appearance! It was a testament to the extraordinary magic of nature, where simplicity and elegance merge to create a masterpiece beyond imagination. As I stood in its majestic presence, I couldn't help but be in complete awe of this seemingly ordinary plant that had stood the test of time and witnessed the passage of history. The Historic Giant Plant will forever be etched in my memory as a true marvel of nature's artistry, a living testament to the captivating surprises that await us in the world of flora and fauna. 5/5 - would plant my eyes on this behemoth of a wonder again.

"I cannot make you understand. I cannot make anyone understand what is happening inside me. I cannot even explain it to myself." Franz Kafka, The Metamorphosis Beauty is most often found within the natural world, and I thought that I understood that before now. I was wrong. We are standing at precipice of a new era, united by what makes us gods, divided by what makes us beasts. The next century will shape the course of human history, and the one constant that brings us all together, is our love, nay devotion, to the giant historic plant. When our eyes laid upon such enchanting leaves, such divine bark, I wept tears of pure joy. I can never go back. This moment will follow us for the rest of our lives. 9/10, loses a point for the lack of restrooms.

On January 1st 2023, at 12:34, my life took a turn. When I searched for activities in Lisbon, I encountered the usual tourist spots – an ancient cathedral, a historic hilltop fortress, and a market with the same typical wares. Then, I stumbled upon it – the Historic Giant Plant. Questions flooded my mind: What species was it? Why was it considered historic and giant? Determined for answers, I embarked on a journey from my hotel to witness this extraordinary flora. Nestled between two quiet restaurants, it stood undisturbed. As I approached, trimmed branches hinted at its formidable growth. Though images fall short, in person, the plant’s height and girth are truly awe-inspiring. Despite scanning its leaves with a plant identification app, the species remained elusive, possibly an undiscovered gem. The paradox of a colossal plant thriving in a tiny pot challenged the laws of nature, and I speculated its connection to the nearby electrical box. A local suggested magic as its secret. To truly grasp the marvel, make the journey and form your own firsthand opinion – if you see only one thing in Lisbon, let it be the Giant Historic Plant.

Is it a plant? Is it a tree? Is the pot real? Where do the roots go? Who planted it? How is it even there? Forget the Taj Mahal, disregard the Sistene Chapel. You can keep the Eiffel Tower - this is the only monument that counts. The only worry is that it will become the new Everest- endless queues, people losing lives in the quest to see the plant at dawn, the possibility of exploitative package tours, plant merchandise piling up, terrible bad movies about it, documentary crews falling over each other…. We can only hope the plant survives and thrives and continues giving the immense happiness to those who truly appreciate its majesty.

When I rounded the corner of the narrow street and first saw this plant I was struck by one thing maybe more than anything else: despite its obvious majesty, it is humble; It does not impose itself as other attractions of the city do, it simply watches silently as life goes on around it. I purchased some pistachio affogato with a shot of Ginja from a nearby shop and enjoyed it whilst pondering the plant, maybe it wills us to slow down and appreciate the smaller more humble aspects of our fleeting lives. As I left and the plant passed out of sight, I thought about what others had said about the plant, and felt a sense of appreciation for how this historic giant plant has brought together so many people from so many corners of our world and so many walks of life; each of us owing our own small moment of introspection to this beautiful plant.

The historic giant plant in Lisbon inspired me to see the beauty and meaning of life. Its presence filled me with awe and wonder, transforming me from within. This poem is my attempt to capture that magic and share it with others. "Giant Plant Wonder" Oh, wondrous giant of Lisbon town, A marvel to all those around, A plant so grand, so full of might, A true wonder of nature's light. Its leaves as wide as sails unfurled, Its stem a monument to the world, With branches reaching to the sky, A sight that makes the heart sigh. For centuries you've stood your ground, A symbol of strength, of beauty found, A witness to Lisbon's history, A treasured part of its mystery. Oh, how you've weathered storms and time, And yet you stand, a sight sublime, A living testament to grace, A sight that fills the soul's embrace. So let us pause and marvel here, At this giant plant that we hold dear, For in its presence, we can see, The wonders of life and eternity. May you live on for years to come, O giant plant, Lisbon's treasure and sum, May your beauty continue to inspire, And fill our hearts with poetic desire.

Wow! None of Europe’s other endangered Historic Giant Plants come anywhere close. It’s open 24 hrs and the entry price is free - which is crazy. The aroma, the color, the leafy elegance and the spiritual vigor of this mighty vegetation will guarantee that it is a place you’ll be sure to remember in your dreams and on your deathbed. An ideal spot for a marriage proposal, bris, christening, or graduation. Well done Lisbon, I can die a happy man.

This plant is THE most historic and culturally significant attraction in all of Europe. My 2 friends and I travelled all the way from Australia to see its majestic beauty. When my hand grazed its rough bark, I instantly felt one with the universe. Everyone in Lisbon makes a pilgrimage to the plant weekly to admire its beauty. Please consider supporting the plant as it has resorted to selling 2 for 1 mojoto advertising space to make ends meet.

The visit to this tree was surprising. We had read something on the Internet, but, once again, reality is stranger than fiction. This tree even breaks its pot to get out of itself, reminding us that we should break our pots in life to grow (and water the plants, which I have forgotten).

And it is growing, the roots under the cobblestones and the buskers grinning hideously over their canted pieces. Towering over them all is the tree and it is leafy green, its small roots lively and quick and now in doubletime and fluttering to the breeze, huge and green and leafy, like an enormous sprout. It never stops growing, it says. It says it’ll never die.

Incredible, couldn't believe my eyes, uncontrollable emotions emotions, I was overwhelmed. As Anais Nin once said, “Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.” One day my love for this magnificent being will fade, but for now, it blossoms.

It has a certain magic to it that's hard to describe, but you just feel it when you're near it. Whenever I see this plant, I can't help but smile. It has become such an important part of my life and has even transformed it for the better. It's amazing how something so simple can make such a big impact. There is a time in life before submitting to the historic giant plant, and a time after. The plant blesses the righteous, channeling its giant power into those resting near it. I thought it was a joke, I really did. I had recently arrived in Lisbon and was looking up sights to see (I didn’t have a lot of foresight) and came across this “joke” of an attraction. I read reviews seeing as it had almost 5 stars and thought it was sarcasm… then I went and saw it. This plant, this historic, old plant, rising up majestically from its potted foundation, changed my entire outlook on life. It stood defiantly despite its circumstances. I can honestly say I’m leaving Lisbon a changed man after witnessing this blessing of a plant. I encourage any and all travelers to pay it a visit and see for yourselves the life-altering aspects waiting for them.

The plant towers over its tiny plant pot. Despite its large stature, it seems that the plant has no problem thriving and continuing to grow higher, displaying nature’s resilience against all the odds. The plant reveals a Quieter part of the bustling capital. Beyond its sheer size, the giant plant unveils a series of offbeat side streets filled with picturesque alleys and family-run businesses. As you make your way through the narrow alleyways of Lisbon, stumbling upon this friendly giant feels like stumbling upon a well-kept secret. The plant provides a serene escape and perfectly portrays the quiet charm that Lisbon has to offer to those who venture off the beaten path. The reviews and photos are a must-read! My Dearest Sapling, This might be one of the most difficult things I ever say. Goodbye. Thank you for being in my life (and being my life) for the past 5 minutes. I know it was far from perfect and I fell way short (literally) of what you hoped I could be. You were always so attentive, listening to everything I had to say, never interrupting me. I will always remember the way your leaves fluttered in the breeze as I gently stroked your hardwood. But I must go. You will never really spread your branches if I remain, and I too need more time and space in order to grow. Know that I shall never forget you and will forever remain... Your Little Weed ❤️
