Beautiful historical building with many unique details, informative exhibitions, some a bit dated, but being renovated at the moment. Helpful staff and dog friendly. A great place to take your family for some quality time.

Architecture of the building itself is exquisite. The museum exhibitions are worth seeing.

The History Museum has a rich collection of works. I am visiting for the permanent exhibition of ancient Egypt. Once you walk into the history museum, you can see a richer collection of minerals, animal kingdoms, and primitive life on the second floor. Recommended👍👍👍👍👍

Learnt so much about Slovenia as well as natural history. Almost all text has English translation. We paid 17 euros for a family ticket to visit both the cultural and the natural museums and it was worth it. The information is too much for one time visit, it deserves a second visit but we wont have time this time, hopefully someday in the future.

There were two museums in this building. I went to the natural History museum which was pretty interesting. There was a lot of taxidermy and lots of interesting information about the animals and the natural environment in Slovenia. There were also a few exhibits about geology. The second museum which is in this building which I did not visit was about Slovenian history from prehistoric days to the medieval era

The stuff at the front desk was extremely friendly and amicable. But honestly speaking, the architecture of the museum is worth attention more than the items inside. I would discourage anyone to visit it UNLESS you are interested in Roman history and have good command of Latin. They have a lapidarium and many engraved tombstones there.

Big and beautiful museum. I entered with a student discount only paying 6€ and I had access to both the natural museum and the national museum. It is full of beautiful samples and interactive activities perfect for kids and adults. I loved the memory I spent 20 minutes playing and it was so fun.

Great collection of artifacts from prehistory onwards. The information and contrxt about the periods are also presented in a simple-to-understand manner. It's attractive for children and adults alike.

Came back after 20 years and was thrilled by "new" specimen of a whale! New technologies also allow additional presentations of exponats, but here's a place for a lot of improvements. It's nice that they have interactive exhibits for the kids and those young in heart.

Solid museum. Sadly not that much to experience and much text. Still worth a visit.

The national museum was decent, but nothing more. As a history buff and archaeology student I found the displays here very useful and engaging. The museum was perfect for information on the prehistory of Slovenia, but not so good for those looking for information on their Yugoslav past. The Egyptian mummy display was great. I would even say that the format behind this was the most memorable part of the museum. Having said that, the flute was amazing, to gaze upon the oldest instrument currently known to man-kind was an invigorating experience.

Visited the museum as part of an organized event. I was so positively surprised with the exhibits and overall experience. Absolutely amazing, many interesting unique pieces, wonderfully explained, you can use the audio guide or guided tour (many languages available) but all of the panels are also in English so it's no issue to walk around on your own. Time flew by very quickly, it was a blast. There is also a part on the outside and an exhibit behind the museum. As it's located very central, it is very easy to find and come by by foot. There is a vending machine inside available with drinks and even coffee (not great not terrible). Everyone was super nice and all the staff speak English. Besides the building as such being architecturally interesting and beautiful on its own ;), I definitely recommend as a must visit when in the city.

An enlightening insight into human history, nature, culture...monuments, mummy, mammut bones, golden statuette, precious stones, everything educational, valuable. It gives us a sence of wonder and makes us curious to know more about the past. Apropriate for every age.

Extremely varied and nicely organized. Natural history, archeology, geology... all separated and well organized! There are plenty of activities for children, with educative games. The exhibits have a significant interest for every age (you can even see the first musical instrument ever created - by the Neanderthals). One of the best small museums I've ever visited!

It's a small museum. It's divided in natural and national museum. You can see everything in about 1h. The permanent Egyptian exhibition is worth it, showing the mummy of a priest.

A really interesting, well laid out introduction to local anthropology stretching over millenia. The bone flute was rather lovely! It would be easy to fill a couple of half days here.

  • 5/5 Krister H. 8 months ago on Google
Very interesting display of the Slovenian history as well as the natural history in the two separate museums. Interesting to see what might be the oldest flute in the world. Worth giving it a couple of hours when you visit Ljubljana.

Small museum that packs a punch. Great collection taking you through prehistory to present day. Lots of information and some interactive bits for children. All in all, a great museum and would thoroughly recommend

Worth to see... It pretty nice and full with interesting exhibitions.

Pleasant staff, we were the only guests, nice and interesting exhibitions (especially for kids) but a bit small overall. You'll be done in an hour and a half for sure, but the price is great for the experience. Would recommend for a rainy day.

Beautiful architecture, but it didn't have many exhibits and truth is that I wasn't so impressed with what I saw. If you really want to go I recommend going on the first Sunday of a month that the tickets are free (although ask because maybe that will change).

Loved the new permanent exhibition, especially the part from the paleolithic era till Roman time. Also loved the parts for the kids. :)

Great student discount, magnificent natural history exposition. The permanent exposition was also great, we saw the 60,000 year old bear flute with music playing of a musician who played a replicated version.
