This one was on my bucket list for years, and finally got to see it. If you are well-prepared and know what you are going to attend, it will be a memorable experience. First of all, buy your tickets in advance! Even if you have just arrived to the parking lot, buy your tickets on the phone, so you don't have to queue at the ticket office, and you can spend your waiting time meaningfully. The surroundings are beautiful, there is a self-service restaurant, souvenir shops, you can visit the Vivarium (if you have bought a combined ticket), anything is better than waiting in an endless line. You can enter the cave no earlier than 15 minutes before your time shown on your ticket. The cave itself is well lit, you arrive by a train, the walk is relatively easy, even elderly can do the tour. The sights are phenomenal, you get some basic information from your tour guide (available in several languages, or you can choose to rent a personal audio guide in many more languages), there is even a souvenir shop and a toilet at the end of your route (within the cave). The whole experience is like going to a Disneyland, with its pros and cons (well maintained place with good infrastructure, everything happens like clockwork, but with lots of people on busy days). Make sure you wear the proper outfit for the tour, which means waterproof clothing and dressed up for 10 degrees Celsius. The train ride is a little windier, the walk itself will keep you a bit warmer. Make sure you follow the etiquette (shown by the Caveman), and enjoy the tour! And don't forget to visit Skocjan cave too, which is less crowded, and you spend more time in the nature.

If possible find time to come and visit. It is worth the money and the time to go underground and the whole tour. You will ride on a train! Underground! It is amazing and you will love it! Besides the cave being enormous, picturesque and unbelievable, the organization is great, many audio guide options to choose from (I recommend getting one). Pictures cannot do it justice, you need to go and experience it for yourself. There is a gift shop available in the cave as a last stop before exiting. Around the area is everything you need - restaurants, coffee places, ice cream parlour. You can spend the whole day here. Don't forget to bring some extra clothes, it is cold inside (12°C) and it can get wet (it's a cave after all). Purchase tickets on the website, you can get a deal with entry to the Predjama Castle as well. Only negative is the parking - you can pay only CASH and there is an ATM only at the information/ticket center. (7euro per day if I remember correctly)

The Postojna Caves offer a mesmerizing underground adventure that captivates from the moment you step inside. The vast caverns, adorned with stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations, create a surreal landscape that feels like entering another world. The guided tour seamlessly combines informative narration with the thrill of exploring this natural wonder. The unique train ride provides a comfortable and efficient way to navigate the extensive cave system. The ethereal beauty of formations like the Brilliant, the Spaghetti Hall, and the Concert Hall leave an indelible impression. Despite the crowds, the caves are well-managed, enhancing the overall experience. You can also send a post card from the only post office in the world that is on an underground cave. Postojna Caves truly stands as a testament to the breathtaking beauty hidden beneath the earth's surface.

(Translated by Google) The visit to the cave is divided into three parts: the first section is covered on board the train, as well as the third (the latter backwards), while the second, the richer and more interesting one, develops along a path not dissimilar to typology from that present in the caves of San Canziano, but decidedly less dizzying. Along this part the scenarios alternate in a surprising way and present a truly remarkable variety. To better appreciate the various areas, it is advisable to take the pocket guide with you, which is very useful. The organization is excellent, however the management of the many groups of people appears a bit hasty, certainly due to the large influx of visitors. The arrival at the "concert hall" concludes the part on foot and includes the obligatory passage through the inevitable souvenir shop. Apart from this, a visit to the cave is absolutely worthwhile, perhaps in combination with the nearby Castel Lueghi, which is only 9 km away.

Absolutely stunning cave. It's long, but for the most of the publicly accessible paths it's available to disabled persons, too. Some parts might require a little help from an able bodied friend, though. Live Christmas show was greatly appreciated by both children and adults.

Well worth a visit! The whole area felt clean and modern with lots of choice to eat and drink during your visit. The train journey into the cafe was smooth and lasted between 5-10 minutes. After this you walk through the cafe with a large group of approx 50 people stopping ever 10 minutes for a talk from the guide. The caves are vast and feel like they go on for eternity, you could easily loose you bearings inside but the smooth pathways help guide you along. Be aware of some steep walks up and down which may not be suitable for some visitors.

Actual caves are 5 stars - really spectacular but hard to get to. Loved the train that takes you through it. There was a guided tour but it was pretty hard to hear and they walked very fast, so we just looked at the caves. Quite hard to get to if you're a tourist without a car. We took the bus from Ljubljana. The bus got us in the town where the caves are but we had to walk 10 minutes to the caves. Did the caves - was great. On the way back we thought we'd try to get the train. Went to the train station (up a big hill) and there wasn't any staff to buy tickets. So we walked all the way back down to the bus and there wasn't one for an hour. When we finally got on there weren't many spots left and some people were left behind to wait another hour. If I were to do this again I would get a tour on trip advisor to get a van or something to take us there and back.

(Translated by Google) A sort of journey to the center of the earth. Simply wonderful! There are many caves, the long beautiful route, the exceptionally organized guides for all the main languages, the average temperature 8 ° C, no queues with online tickets. Outside, there is a large parking lot, public toilets, spacious restaurant-bar facilities, beautiful minerals in souvenir shops. If the price seems high before entering, it won't be once you leave. Nothing is missing for the perfect trip.

This was a great experience and a must go for anyone new in Ljubljana, specifically in Postojna. Starting with the train ride, full of excitement and fun. And then the guided tour. You can choose an audio guide, where you will get an audio device that will describe the history, geography and science of the cave and its diverse species. Else you will follow a representative from them (you have all the options for languages) who will passionately describe and explain the history and science of the cave. I really love the energy by which they were explaining everything and responding to all our stupids questions. Also, I was really impressed by the knowledge they possessed about that cave. Moreover, you should consider visiting the cave if you are nearby and of course do consider buying online tickets beforehand. Note: when buying tickets you can buy the combo ticket of the cave and castle. And the bus ride from this cave to castle is free.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Firstly, you go few minutes by a specially design train to the start of the tour and the ride itself is pretty nice. The complex is really vast and it takes about 1,5 hours to go through it all. The views are truly magnificent and at the end there is even a possibility to see some of the cave animals (even with the most basic ticket). I would also recommend buying audio guide since the information were quite interesting and it enhanced the overall experience. They even offer it in lots of different languages.

This is the cave with the longest walking route in the world at 5.3 km. The cave is one of the most beautiful in the whole world. Travel three kilometers by train. A fun and unforgettable experience. And at the same time extremely beautiful. Uniqueness in every respect. Don't forget when you visit Slovenia that this is in your top destinations. Worth!

Very worth place to visit. Amazing lighting all around shares with you all corners of Cave visiting routes and gives you a lot of pleasure. Audio guide is free with lots of language options, nice small and easy to use device. Temperature is 10°C degree, you will stay about 1.5h underground, get correct clothing. Mini zoo is not bad, Cave history is interesting too. Paid parking, no free parking around.

We are five friends who visited Postojna Cave and we had an amazing time. The cave is beautiful and the train ride was a lot of fun. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the experience even better. We took a combined ticket which included Postojna Cave + Predjama Castle + Vivarium + Butterflies Exhibition. The cave system is around 24 km long. It’s recommended to wear a sweater or a coat since the temperature inside the cave is around 10 degrees Celsius. I would definitely recommend visiting Postojna Cave if you’re in Slovenia!

This is the best cave I have ever seen. The whole trip was super well organized. Everyone was very nice. Inside the cave it is a bit wet so good shoes and a rain jacket. It is really the most impressive cave I have seen. The formations were amazing and it was so big. Really super experience.

We enjoyed the living nativity in the cave. This was so beautiful and amazing to see. The caves are spectacular but the performance added another level. To attend on Christmas had such special meaning and will hold great memories from our trip to Slovenia to see friends.

The place is easy find and well sign posted. One of the biggest caves in Europe open for public visit. It's situated in the town Postojna. There's a coach parking and big car park just a few minutes walk from the cave entrance. If coming with a group book in advance a time slot. Better to wear something warm inside as it's cold. Closed shoes are recommended. From the entrance you take a little train deep inside then walking. The ground is flat and smooth all the way. The guides are nice not rushing but keep in mind you have to keep up with your group. Souvenir shops at the end of the walking tour. Outside the cave are restaurants, souvenir shops, coffee places, free toillets and a hotel with private parking.

Magnificent place one of the most beautiful things that I have ever seen in my entire life. Worth it to visit is a bit expensive but definitely is worth it. Bring the most Confortable shoes with grip because the floor is wet. In the caves is cold around 10 degrees, is not flat you must walk up and down…. The train takes you 70% of the length of the caves.them the last part is walking. There is not toilets over there so be ready in advance the tour take over 1 hour.

It has been years if not decades since I have visited that place. The surrounding of the cave has improved in recent years however the cave is still as it was... beautiful, amazing, on of a kind! The train in to the cave has been modernised, the lights have been improved and I really loved the new Proteus spotting area.

Hidden gem!! This was not a planned visit at all. Someone told us and what a treat fellas! I have been to many caves in US and nothing comes close to this one. A train ride inside the cave!!!!! Hike by foot is perfectly planned for kids without tiring them out. Loved it. Recommend this to everyone. I will be telling about this to all my friends in US and Europe.

So amazing!!! Nature is really wonderful, what an incredible underground world! The train part can be a bit chilly, so a light jacket is advisable even in summer months, but the walking part was fine, and it's very safe (the floor isn't slippery and it's flat, in the sense there's nothing to trip on). The guide explains everything really well and the outdoors are also beautiful. You can't miss it when in Slovenia!

The caves are very cool and totally worth it! We went at the first time slot (9am) so it wasn’t very full. We got a bus from Ljubljana bus station to go and to come back and it was 6€pp each way, much cheaper then the tours. The zoo thing wasn’t that worth it though, if we were to go again we would buy the tickets for castle and caves only.

So wonderful , a wonder and beauty of nature. Very well kept and maintained by the local authorities. Before reaching the core of the cave you 'll ride 5km with a small train which goes straight through the cave, amazing journey with the train!

A very-worth place to visit. You have an allocated time slot to enter the cave. Tours are guided in English or other languages. You are taken through the first part of the cave in a train for 1.5 km (if I remember correctly). The second part, you walk through this simply majestic route to admire the beauty of nature. It is cool inside the cave so thicker clothes are required. Simply awesome and worth the time and money to spend about 2 hours here.

Postojna Caves was my absolute favourite place to visit in Slovenia! I’ve never seen anything like it. We went in the morning to skip the lineups. I was recommended to wear long pants, a warm sweater and good walking shoes. It’s quite cold in the cave, and yes lots of walking. I highly recommend you see this.

It's beautiful, it's huge, it's interesting but it's also quite expensive (for some probably even overpriced). They took us by train to the main cave, then we spent around 1 hour walking through the cave. There is also a museum and "zoo" on the premises (and souvenir shops, of course) but I have a feeling that it's there mostly to justify the price. The museum and the zoo are interesting but I would rather pay half the price to be able to visit the cave only... I don't understand why the parking (6€) is not included in the entry (40€).

We recently visited the mesmerizing Postojna Cave in Slovenia, and it left us in awe of nature's wonders. The cave's immense size and intricate formations took my breath away. The guided tour was informative and well-organized, allowing me to fully appreciate the cave's geological marvels. The highlight was the underground train ride, adding a touch of adventure to the experience. Despite being a popular attraction, the cave's preservation efforts were commendable, ensuring its beauty for future generations. A must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and anyone seeking a truly unique experience.

(Translated by Google) What to say! It was very interesting to know these majestic caves, they are organized in rooms based on the diversity of stalactites and stalagmites. They are rich in history and very ancient, in fact the guides have been very exhaustive and have been able to enhance their charm. A super positive thing: at the entrance there were several signs for the collection points different for languages it was very useful, certainly a little more pampering than other tourist destinations, in these points the guide who introduced the route was introduced and small rules to be respected. Then you take a train and the magic begins! The path is easy for both children and people not too young, but it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties and therefore prams or crutches, or maybe children in strollers. (Original) Che dire!

Last year we visited two caves in Greece, and they were the first I had ever been in. The first part of this one here felt a bit funny, like entering a Disney ride, but truly once you start walking and get the guided tour it turns into a whole new thing. Beyond extraordinary, beyond majestic, a definite five star.

It is definitely the best cave I have ever been because of its accessibility, size and the variety of stalactites and stalagmites. I joined other visitors to take the train, followed by an hour walk in the underground wonder led by a cave tour guide. The footpaths were wide, well-lit and step free. We were shown the "baby dragons" in a tank. The souvenir shop at the end of the walking tour had a fantastic selection of fridge magnets, of which a lot were made in Slovenia. We then boarded the train to complete the visit, surprisingly passing an underground river.

Honestly, coming from a country where we have some decent caving experiences and tours. This by far was over prices and not really interesting… audio guides, no pictures in areas. Expensive post shop. A train ride that takes up most of the tour. I was expecting a lot more for the price. Don’t get me wrong it’s interesting and magnificent but not worth €40 each to see.

Staying in the cave is pleasant. It's not too cold. The group was big, but the guide was patient and waited for everyone. The tour lasts just long enough that it is also suitable for smaller children. I definitely recommend it.

Excellent experience. The train is a great addition to see more without having to walk more. Our guide said the walk would be about 25 minutes. She was hustling and some of us fell behind a bit as we took photos. The places the guide stopped weren't necessarily the prettiest for photos. But in between were great opportunities. The walk is paved but it does have steep incline and decline. They said it was 1.5 km. Our guide was fantastic offering to answer questions.

One of the biggest and most beautiful places I have ever been to! You start with a 10 minute train drive through caverns that most caves would be jealous of to arrive in a massive 10s of meters tall cave, there is an official wedding place and a concert hall. For another hour you do not stop being amazed! The parking is reasonably priced and the food was good as well (stir-fry noodles and amazing cakes). Really worth visiting.

  • 5/5 Francesco B. 7 months ago on Google
Amazing cave! The train trips in and out are awesome, then there's the 45 minutes guided walk inside the cave complex which is just as good. The walk is easy and even children won't have any problem doing it. The temperature inside is around 10°C/50°F, so during the summer bring something to pull on. All in all it is expensive but still definitely worth it. I would strongly advise to buy the tickets online in advance.

Definitely worth the visit. 2.5km with train and 1.5km on foot really got me get familiar with the caves and its attractiveness. There's something to see on every single corner of the caves. The place also offers you audio guides about the cave and its history. Outside the cave you can find different restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops. This place is a must-go when you travel around Slovenia.

Magnificent!! Must visit when in Slovenia:) Be there a minimum of 30 min before the entry time, every hour. The first visit starts at 12:30. Cold inside, it's 10°all year round. I did wear a Kashmir pool over and I light jacket, Sommer trousers, snickers. It was just right for me:) If you are traveling by public transport, organise your time, buses, shuttles and trains departing not often.

Impressive, large cave system, with timed tours, each with 100+ tourist, shepherded by cave tour guides. We went with the 10 am tour - and it’s a huge group - the train took 100 of us into the cave system. The train ride is quite fun and lasts about 10 min. On arrival, with the surge of the crowd and the darkness in the cave, we lost sight of our cave tour guide. We only found our tour guide again, when she spoke - far into the cave system, past other places of interest. All in all, I think she only spoke three times. The walk is around 1 hour, at a brisk pace. There is really no time to dawdle - you stop to take pictures, and then run to catch up with the rest of the group. There is no stairs in the cave system, just up and down, wet concrete pathways.

Amazing natural beauty with astonishing formations. The ticketing system works great for getting you into the caves by train. Once in the views are spectacular. The only issue is returning. Multiple tour groups converge on the final cave with a mass free-for-all scrum to get onto the return train. Totally crazy and very poorly planned.

Absolutely outstanding tour. My group ended up there on a whim on our way to another place, and I am so happy we did. The tour is very in-depth. When you start the tour, you get on a train into the cave. After ~3 km, they let you out and you can tour maybe 2 km semi-freely. Well worth it, and the restaurants outside are a perfect lunch after you wander around under ground for two hours

hard to describe how large and beautiful this cave system is. 15 minute electric train ride in, about an hour of walking through with an audio guide, then 15 minute train ride back out. 98% humidity and 50 F° year-round. Some climbs and descents inside, but there are railing and paved floors and stairs.

Beautiful cave system. You buy a ticket ahead of time for your hourly slot and then you follow your tour guide first through an underground train, followed by an hour long walk once you’re deep in the cave. You walk in a group which can feel a bit like a queue at first but eventually people shuffle around and it becomes much more relaxing. We went during the off season in September so it wasn’t too busy but it’s probably a good idea to buy tickets ahead of time if you’re here in a more busy period.

  • 5/5 Eva-Maria K. 2 years ago on Google

Beautiful and massive cave. Our guide was super nice and funny, lots of interesting information was given. And the train ride is amazing and so much fun 🚂 Dress warm, the temperature is 10 degrees all year round 🥶 Book your ticket in advance, the entries are timed. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the zoo and other parts the combined tickets let you in because we didn’t check the opening times and we did the cave tour first and by the time we finished the others were closed. But I would love to come back and check out the castle too.

A must see when in Slovenia. Do bring along a jacket or windbreaker when riding the underground train. The temperature is a cool 10°C and windy riding on the train...exhilarating ride..only about 5km is accessible and 3 5km by train and 1.5km distant on foot. This cave is one of the longest karst cave and worth a visit.

We had a lovely time visiting Postojna Cave. It is the best thing you can do in Slovenia on a rainy day! Children friendly, my 6 year old loved the ride on the train and exploring the cave, we walked for 1.5km (you are not allowed to touch stalagmites). The guide was very knowledgeable, and we really enjoyed the tour around the cave, which took around 90 minutes. The only thing is that on the website said you have to arrive 30 minutes before the admission time, but we did not enter the cave before it, so we were waiting for 30 minutes outside (on a rainy day).

An absolutely amazing experience. Great views and feelings. A must visit point during your vacation in Slovenia. Parking costs € 5 per departure. Please plan your visit carefully, as the time of rebooking is additionally charged 5 € for each ticket.

Spectacular trip around one of the largest cave systems in Europe. A 15 minute train journey followed by a well designed three mile walk around the caves with frequent stops to appreciate the settings as well as the stalagmites and stalagmites. There is commentary over a loudspeaker system so you always feel well informed. At the end of the trip you exit via the large underground hall to the train. Temperatures in the cave are not particularly low but it can feel quite chilly on the train.

Big queues in peak season. Definitely pre-book unless you plan to wait two hours in a restaurant. Parking is charged per day so even if you park, try to visit but you didn't have time to wait 2 hours and had to leave, you still have to pay. Once in the cave, very cool!

The caves of Postojna are the most spectacular caves I have ever been to. The cave system is about 20+ km total length, the tunnels are usually of a size that trains could easily pass. Even people afraid of narrow rooms should feel fine there. The dripstone formations and decorations are incredible beautiful, some dripstones reaching several m height. Although many tourists are there, this is a very good site to go.

For old and young. Driving the 3km by train through this different world is overwhelming in itself. The walk with a verbal guide in your hand teaches you a lot. This is a must.

It was a not to miss experience! We would not recommend doing this with a push car and a baby, but instead like us go for the baby bag type of carriage. Again amazing, let the pictures speak for itself.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent as always! I had visited them years ago but I went back for the live nativity show. Congratulations, very beautiful. The ticket price is worth the show you will visit. Parking 5 € / day. Several souvenirs and restaurants to stop at. You should definitely try it especially in the Christmas atmosphere, perhaps visiting the city of Ljubljana and their markets in the morning. (Original) Magnifiche come sempre!

(Translated by Google) Spectacular ancient caves, also here beautiful and particular nature. Good organization, we had booked tickets online for a set time, so we had a queue for pickup only. When there is little at the entrance you are divided into nationalities (for a question of the language of the guide). Then the show starts, first the ride with the train to get to the depths, continue on foot with the explanation of the guide and finally go up again with the train. Good experience. Bella esperienza.

It's a whole new world indeed. Beautiful and full of amazement. Biggest cave system in europe and one to remember. The train is a nice start and since it was late February there wasn't many people visiting. The variation of colors and formations is not evident as in other cave systems like Han in Belgium but the sheer amount of miles to admire totally makes for it.

We visited at the end of October, amazing experience both for adults and children. I felt a little minus thing about the guided tour, it was such a rush, we couldn't really enjoy the view and the echo was too big so we couldn't understand much. This is why I recommend the audio guide. The mini train ride was much fun ! It is not cheap at all, we took the cave+vivarium+butterfly museum conbined ticket for 101.8 € ( 2 adult, 2 kids). Parking for the day is 5 €, be aware, only cash !

Absolute worth the €25 entry fee. Amazing cave and well maintained tour. * 1.5 -2 hours long trip * Has open trains inside the cave for dropping off at walking path and picking up back from walking end point * Guided trip and has audio guides in different languages * nicely illuminated and maintained paths * Naturally beautiful and amazing structures and rock formations from the old age * Some amazing narrow and wide areas with out of the world rock shapes and colors

Amazing tour. I enjoyed very much. I had preferred to have more time to visit alone and not with a big group. It’s a bit too much touristic. Maybe the company could offer tours specifically dedicated to smaller groups and not only to amateurs

One of the most amazing gems that God created on earth Stalactite cave so big and spectacular. The visit is conducted professionally, with each visitor who wants to be given a training device with the language he chooses The explanations are clear. The stalactite cave is very impressive and beautiful and can easily be included with the wonders of the world

Beautiful cave with some fantastic sites and information. We visited the cave on a 30+°c day, so that we didn't melt. It was lovely and cool (around 8 degrees) in the cave, so if you're prone to a chill, put a jumper on at least. The inside of the cave is marvellous, as is the history. The introduction to the ecosystem is pretty impressive too! Outside the cave is very touristy, as would be expected and expect to pay tourist prices for refreshments etc. Worth a visit.

You HAVE to go for it. AMAZING experience. Get warm clothes if you find 10 degrees cold :D You will see millions of years of nature's work! And the train ride is absolutely great and fun!

You can’t skip a visit to the cave when you are in any area close to Postonja. Really impressive, 100% organized. You just need to wear proper clothes (10 degrees and humidity).

Super wonderful cave. We visited on a rainy day, but the inside of the cave was quite comfortable. The temperature is stable at about 10 degree Celsius all the time. When you come during summer, you should bring a coat with you. With that said, it is highly recommended to come in all seasons. Please be noted that you can enter the cave only as a guided tour and the start time depends on the season.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful. The visit lasting about an hour and a half is well managed and the guide is nice. Given the temperature 10 ° C is the internal humidity and it is advisable to cover yourself adequately. It is preferable to buy the ticket online. Recommended. (Original) Bellissime. (Translated by Google) Splendid caves, immensely large and well-structured path. Part of the tour includes a ride aboard a small train and then continue on foot to explore with the guide. Tours organized in different languages, somewhat numerous groups. It is recommended to buy the ticket which also includes a visit to the castle (Original) Splendide grotte, immensamente grandi e percorso ben strutturato. (Translated by Google) Beautiful, you know. Third visit for me, after 18 years. Everything renovated except what is perfect: inside. For me, who have knee problems, doing 1.5 km at a good pace was hard but it was worth it. The train is also exciting for adults, also because it is partially excavated in the rock and goes fast! Buy tickets online otherwise there is a queue. Outside the numerous bars and takeaways and ice cream parlors offer a wide choice. Souvenir shops too. Little Italian is spoken but English is spoken, or by gesticulating ... The Slavs are friendly and brilliantly intelligent, they understand each other easily in every way. (Original) Splendide, si sa. Terza visita x me, a distanza di 18 anni. Fuori i numerosi bar e rosticcerie e gelaterie offrono ampia scelta.

I had a great time visiting it. It was beautiful during Christmas (they had a special decoration inside with songs, lights and a Christmas tree) Buy your ticket in advance if you don’t want to wait for a long time. It's great for a family activity. They also have exhibitions to learn more about the Grotte di Postumia and plenty of souvenirs to buy (expensive though...). PS : Make a cute face when entering because they take a picture of you which you can buy at the end ^^

Wow! Very impressive, very busy, very well organised. Its cool inside but we were comfortable enough in our t shirts. You can hire coats or take a lightweight jacket if you're not sure. The entry into the cave is on a surprisingly fast moving train which is open to the top and sides. After that you walk a circuitous footpath through the stunning cave system and then exit via the train. Try counting the wow moments on your trip. Outside there are cafes and shops and some pleasant garden areas for a stroll or picnic.

Very nice historical cave. Accessible for everyone. Make sure you come here in warm clothing, it gets to less than 10degrees during summer or you can rent a coat
