Delicious. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and were seated outside straight away. The staff are really friendly, welcoming and attentive. You can tell it’s an old place with staff that care about the customers. We had some fish and some chicken with chips. The chips are so tasty. Just as you get them by the sea. The fish was great, really nice batter, not too thick and overpowering. The chicken goujons were really tasty, again the batter wasn’t too thick and they were nice and juicy. It is pricey but it didn’t add up to more than you would expect in the area or more than you would expect for some good fish and chips. The atmosphere is lovely, especially outside. I would definitely recommend.

I really liked the fish from here! The batter was light and crunchy and you could eat their generous portion without feeling sick. The tartar sauce is amazing and so were all the sides. I especially liked the coleslaw. We also got the calamari and prawns as a starter and again, perfectly battered. I wasn’t a fan of the chips but only because I like skinny and crunchy French fries. None the less, I still ate them. We visited based on a recommendation from a friend who grew up in London (thanks John!) and we’d recommend the same to anyone else!

A Londoner friend recommended this place, about 5 minutes walk from Covent Garden market. The fish and chips was really good, service was prompt and courteous and the food price was reasonable. We came around 3.00pm and there were only a few tables available so I think at peak hours, you probably have to wait a bit to get a table as the restaurant seems to be quite popular. As usual, avoid the busy hours.

Interior of the place and service are nice. I ordered fish and chips (lemon sole fish) and of course it was fatty but fish was tasty. Also I tried a chicken & mushrooms pie and can’t say it’s good. Be aware that 12,5% service charge is included in the bill. As for me the place is a bit overpriced.

Picturesque little fish shop a stones throw from Tottenham Court Road tube station. Menu that has classic fish and chip options, we samples the Cod Loin and the chicken and mushroom pie, both delicious, the fish was soft and flaky in a tasty batter that was too thick. The pie had a delightful filling and excellent pastry and was notably fresh. Chips were of the same standard, thick cut with the right amount of crispness. I little high priced for me personally, but worth it as a once off for a great meal.

In a word: overrated. I decided to try this restaurant because the advertising was so good. All of the information was so enticing and well written regarding how the restaurant started. The information stated that they had the “best fish and chips in Britain.” I ordered the fish and chips cod style and the coleslaw. The fish was very bland, dry, overcooked and chewy. Not good! However, I thought the coleslaw and chips were good and the tarter sauce was also very good! If you like under seasoned fish and chips, then this restaurant is perfect for you!

Fish and chips weren’t good and the chips were dry and cold. Couldn’t even bite it as it was too hard. Told the staffs and said would checked with chef but did nothing/no follow up. Minimal service rendered and no tap water served until we asked. Disappointing food and service. Ordered the combination platter but the onion rings were like few and small pieces. Not worth

I had the best fish and chips in London at this place! The crispy batter and tender fish were absolutely delicious. The portion size was generous, and the service was top-notch. If you're in London and craving some classic British fare, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Fresh and extremely tasty fish and chips in the heart of London. For me, one of the best places for fish and chips. The prices are comparatively high. But the portions are huge and the food is of high quality. The team was very friendly. The ambience has more of a bistro character. I recommend making a reservation, especially in the evening. It gets crowded quickly.

I found this place bc my cab driver recommended it as amazing... the food is OK. Quite oily and fatty. Even for comfort food. That said, the service is fantastic. They seem greek? Either way, the food is not completely authentic and the French fries are more potatoe than fry, but the service is quite attentive and deferring. The cost is not cheap. I would recommend this spot but I think there is easier, cheaper and more authentic fish and chips in the area you may also want to check out...

This is the oldest Fish and Chips restaurant in London. It was a very cute place to take the family. We ate outside and had fish and chips. We also had an order of chicken. All of it was deep fried and wonderful. The chips were also amazing. When we arrived, shortly after 5pm, the place was already packed. They also do a very brisk take-out business, so there is a lot of activity out front. The servers were amazing, and she took care of all our needs. Food arrived quickly and exactly as ordered and we all had a wonderful dinner. It was really a great representation of British Fish and Chips. I would most definitely go back.

Great fish and chips and dining experience Despite being very busy with a constant queue we were seated near immediately The food came out quickly with good flavor, perfectly cooked (cod fish and chips). The tarter sauce portion was a bit small The sticky toffee pudding here is absolutely excellent as well and not too sweet with good texture Wait staff was very attentive and helpful Would highly recommend!

What can I say ? - The personal was very friendly and helpful. - When you see the restaurant you say “Oh that’s pretty small !” but you have an hidden room next to the principal, quiet and clean ! As for the fish : The cod loin has plenty of flesh, and the tartare sauce on the side was the perfect mixture with it. If you want a real fish and chips, you should go there. 👌

After doing some research the Rock and Sole was identified as a good spot for traditional style British fish and chips. We did order both a cod and Haddock option. Both were decent and very similar tasting. The cod did have a thick layer of skin inside the batter that I would have passed on. If going be clear if you want tap water vs bottles water. The assumption if you ask for flat that you want bottled. Staff were friendly. The tartar sauce that was served with the fish was good.

Such a lovely Fish and Chips restaurant! Crispy but melty fish and best-match chips were the best harmony! It may have a queue but would be able to have a seat shortly thanks to good customer circulation.

Such a wonderful experience and the rare joy of a place exceeding the best online reviews. So much to love here—small tables, shoulder to shoulder dining, a kitchen and chefs you could see as they cooked to order, a bright corner block with windows onto the street for lots of people watching, the pleasant level of noise that gives you energy but doesn’t make you shout to be heard. And the food! Everyone here agreed this was the best fish and chips we’ve had. Nothing experimental. Nothing that asks anything but to enjoy. The basics are done so incredibly well that you need nothing more. True ingredients, no camouflage in trying to hide anything—quality from beginning to end. Thank you!

Dined at the oldest Fish & Chips spot in London, Rock and Sole Plaice, established in 1871. Its basement once served as a meeting hub for community volunteers during WW II. We tried the classic fish & chips—fresh, crisply battered, and satisfying. Also ventured into a British-style delight, the battered sausage; a first for me, quite interesting. Beyond its rich history, it might not be extraordinary, but definitely worth a visit.

A large portion of fish and chips is enough to share between two. Got the cod, which was solid. Chips are plentiful. For sides, the gravy was great.

Rock & Sole Plaice delights with its exceptional fish and chips, a true taste of London's culinary heritage. Fresh, sustainable seafood paired with a fine selection of beers. Staff are wonderfully welcoming, enhancing the cozy, classic ambiance. A must-visit!

We wanted to try fish and chips that was walkable, and came here on recommendation from our concierge, and they did not disappoint! This place was very busy, and I highly recommend reserving a table. Our concierge called ahead, so we didn't need to wait too long to be seated. Their portions are large, so come hungry! Service was quick and pleasant. There's a list of fish to choose from, and I went with cod. The breading was crunchy, while the fish was soft and fluffy and cooked well. Overall, the meal was delicious. Just remember that you're in Covent Garden, so expect to pay more than you normally would anywhere else.
