My partner and I visited The Spread Eagle for our first meal out after lockdown and had an incredible vegan Sunday roast - I had the nut roast and my partner had the pot roast, and we also split the cauliflower cheese and a sticky toffee pudding - all super tasty and we ate every morsel! They have managed to keep traditional flavors and dishes while making them vegan, which is amazing! Staff were super friendly and attentive with good service, and we sat outside in the lovely little garden area which was socially distanced from other tables and had a great ambiance with plants and sunlight in the early afternoon. Also they had an excellent drinks list. Wonderful experience overall and can't wait to visit again.

The best roast of my life. Dessert was great too. Inventive and substantial all-vegan food, with traditional flavours in mind. The gravy was incredible and the roast potatoes just perfect. Clean space and funky decor. The drinks looked beautiful and sounded very well thought through, hopefully they will add a more consistent mocktail section in the future. Service was attentive and friendly. I wish there was a place like this in West London! Well done to the whole team, showing that plant based doesn’t mean tasteless or boring is a real feat. I will be back to try the third Sunday roast option AND the weekly menu! Thank you for a truly great experience

Bar staff was ok and drinks too. But karaoke DJ WAS REALLY BAD. I have put some songs hoping to sing few for the 3hours I spent there. But no luck. Just 1 song. DJ just messed up mine and my friend requests. HE LOST OUT DUET SONG AND GAVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE, ALTHOUGH WE ORDERED IT MORE THAN 1H BEFORE THE OTHER PERSON. I WILL ABSOLUTELY NEVER COME BACK! I WILL ABSOLUTELY TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TO DON'T BOTHER COMING. A TOTAL WASTE OF MY TIME. 👎👎👎

Came here with a group and enjoyed the drinks, food, vibe and service. Great vegan cocktails like espresso martini and hazelnut white Russian, which are usually non-vegan at other places. The pie I ordered was tasty and a great portion. Delicious!

It was my first time visiting this pub. I attended on Friday which was a karaoke night - the vibe was awesome. The staff were lovely and there was a really nice mix of people of all ages! Really enjoyed it. Shout-out to the guy behind the bar with the glasses (I’m sorry I forgot your name) you’re the coolest!

Came here for my birthday dinner and was thoroughly impressed! A really beautiful vegan menu and cocktail selection. I had the Korean burger and it was absolutely delicious, what amazing things you can do with mushrooms! I was also delighted to see a butter bean and red pepper stew on the menu - I wonder if it was inspired by Rachel Ama!

I'm truly at a loss for words to convey the sheer wonder of my time at Spread Eagle – undoubtedly one of my cherished gems in the UK. Amid the enchanting aura of the Christmas season, my visit has etched an enduring mark in my memories; I find myself constantly reminiscing about it. For those who seek a leisurely atmosphere, Spread Eagle offers a pool table, perfect for unwinding with drinks in hand. Now, onto the culinary marvels that unfolded before us. The Sticky Toffee Pudding, an absolute must-try, I enjoyed every single bite, made with dates and topped with a rich toffee sauce, it’s a classic British dessert with a vegan twist. Let’s not forget about the main dish, Roast with Beet Wellington showcases the versatility of plant-based ingredients a true UK highlight. And let us not forget the star of the show: their house beer. Refreshing and delectable, it complements the menu to perfection, a choice fit for those who seek both refreshment and a vegan-friendly option. Whether sipped solo or harmoniously paired with your meal (much like we did), the house beer stands as a testament to Spread Eagle's commitment to excellence. In sum, I wholeheartedly endorse Spread Eagle. Highly recommend. A visit here is not just a dining experience, but an extraordinary journey of flavors and sensations that's simply beyond compare.

We visited the spread eagle for a Sunday roast, we booked ahead which was easy to do by phone. We were quickly seated. The service was a little slow and relaxed but that was ok there were a couple of times we were waiting around. The atmosphere of the venue was lovely, music, people talking, and it seems like a popular place. We chose this pub/restaurant because everything on the menu was vegan! The food itself looked great and tasted great and just about the right portion sizes for the price we paid. The only feedback I had regarding the menu is that the meal itself wasn't hot when it arrived at the table it was more lukewarm! Which quickly became cold. It was surly sitting under the lamp for some time. But over happy with the experience

Love this vegan pub! Great cocktails and love the Sunday roasts! Usually have the Beet Wellington (still my fave) but fancied a change today so went for the nut roast. Great plate of food - good size portions, fresh veg, lots of roasties and a pretty decent Yorkie! If I was being super picky, I'd like them to thicken up the gravy a tad. Always look forward to going - highly recommend!

I had the beet wellington roast and sticky toffee pudding, both delicious. The roast is well priced in comparison to other places that serve vegan roasts, especially when you get a Yorkshire pudding! Staff were really friendly. Looking forward to eating here again.

When I walked in I was welcomed by a really nice guy who was chatty and polite, cracking jokes and looking after my friend and I. However when we Sat at the table joined to the bar it took 10 minutes to attempt to order a drink from the grumpy shaved head manager at the bar. When my friend and I asked her for a drink she walked up to us didn't say anything then walked away. 5 minutes later our guy came up to us and said his manager would need our IDs, she didn't even ask us to our faces for them. When we wanted a second drink, the manager was doing nothing behind the bar just standing there so I politely waved and smiled at her and she looked me straight in the eyes and walked off. My friend and I were shocked at how rude she was being to us and she ruined our time at the pub. She had some kind of grudge against us for some reason, we did nothing wrong. Could've been really nice but she ruined it, we were going to stay for food but got out of there. I don't understand how you can have a manager as rude as her.

We went to have Sunday Roast and we ordered one of each. The walnut and cashew nut roast was okay better than the celeriac one that I had. However, the pudding was small and rather dry. The fact that we waited almost an hour for the food, we expected the food to be top-notch. Hence the 3 stars.

Club Mexicana is an all vegan Mexican street food stall that trades in Camden and Shoreditch. It now has a residency (from Thursday to Sunday) in the Spread Eagle in Homerton which became London’s first entirely vegan pub in January this year! The Spread Eagle is a gorgeous pub – the bar sits in the middle and the decor is very quirky with beautiful artwork mixing with a day of the dead type shrine but it really works. When we visited it was busy but not overcrowded and had a great atmosphere. The music was right up our street too and we felt relaxed and comfortable there. Spread Eagle First Vegan Pub in London Spread Eagle First Vegan Pub in London Spread Eagle First Vegan Pub in London Oh wow the food – a vegans dream! We started with some tacos, the Carnitas: jackfruit in mojo de ajo with pico de gallo & salsa verde and Carne Asada: marinated seitan, pink onions, salsa verde, arbol chilli sauce & coriander. Both were so delicious and full of flavour! Spread Eagle First Vegan Pub in London This was followed by the Deep Fried Cheeze, the Chick’n Wings and the Chorizo Quesadilla. The deep fried cheeze was delicious, filled with luscious vegan cheese which oozed out of its fried casing it was indulgent and gorgeous. The chick’n wings were crispy and herby and went great with the salsa verde. The quesadilla was really flavoursome and packed an almighty punch! It was too much for my wimpy mouth but it did taste great. Then we tried the burger to end all burgers – The MFC (Mexican Fried Chicken): Mexico City’s answer to the fried chicken burger, annatto glazed fried chick’n with mustard mayo, pickled cabbage & dill. Oh my gosh…this burger was heavenly, with crispy fried chick’n topped with the pickled cabbage and dill it was a taste sensation – I could eat it every day until I die! The Spread Eagle serves up delicious lagers and ales to match the food but true to myself I stuck to prosecco! My friend tried a lovely Camden Hells lager when the Quesadilla got too much for her and she really enjoyed it. I will be back – an amazing pub with fun staff and incredible vegan food. I can’t sing their praises enough!

Back in London and had to make the journey across town for a vegan roast! 🍽 I had the Nut Roast and also tried the Beet Wellington, with Leek Gratin sides. The Beet Wellington was my fave, tasted amazing. Nut roast was a 3.5-4/5 (its cooked in a cabbage leaf so it's more of steamed nut roast). Thicker gravy please, would be 👌🏾 I recommend the sticky toffee pudding vs the crumble🥄 Service was great, did not rush us and very friendly! 🌱

We had our Christmas meal here, and the team were able to cater such a large group (15) incredibly well on a busy Saturday. First of all the pub is gorgeous, the decorations are innovative and the whole place retains such a cosy feel, with lovely little outdoor space. The staff were all amazing, so friendly! They were also really dog friendly and provided a water bowl for our pup Now the food... I'll just say that our non vegan friends in the group, who were often reluctant to try anything vegan, said it was one of the best Christmas meals they had ever had, anf they couldn't believe that faux grois tasted exactly like it. And for the vegans, we all felt this was top-tier delicious food, easily the best in London! The three courses were all fantastic, and we will be back booking in for next year. Thank you Spread Eagle :D

We visited the Spreadeagle for the Sunday roast and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. We ordered the Beet Wellington which was incredibly dry, served with flavourless potato and veg, and an incredibly watery gravy (it is practically water). It's a real shame as vegan food is incredible and this roast doesn't do it justice. A simple use of herbs like thyme, rosemary, sage, (salt & pepper)and garlic would help elevate the potatoes and vegetables but there was no use of fresh herbs or spices for any of the dishes or at least you couldn't taste anything. The texture of the potatoes was ok but again no flavour. The only thing that was tasty were the cheesy leeks. I'd also argue that the portions are quite small for what you're paying - you get a very small portion of Wellington. On a more positive note, the desserts are incredible and the service was excellent. All the staff are super friendly and helpful.

WOW. A plant-based pub that would please non-vegans and vegans. Must have the beet Wellington and the sticky toffee pudding 💖 the server even ordered extra sauce for us to try. I went last Sunday and I’m excited to come back again this Sunday. The portion was big too.

Had high expectations on this one, came with my omnivore friends to show them how vegan food can be banging. Ordered the pie and was told this one would take 25 min. Fair enough, challenge accepted. 70 min and a couple drink later, still nothing. we canceled and left and were told in a blaming way that it would have been just another 2 min and that the food was “on its way”... 3 stars for the initiative of going full vegan. Total fail tho

Great food, we had the ploughman's board, carrot and fluffy rice, mushroom styled toast and to finish it all off with a cheese board. Although service charge wasn't mentioned (12.5%) on the menu, it was well deserved. Hope it goes to the staff 😊

Known as London's first 100% vegan pub. It was my first time at The Spread Eagle in Homerton. Great pub, friendly staff, Very good efficient service, and very good vegan food with a variety of options that hits the spot nicely! Good drinks selections. Portions could be a bit bigger but overall a very satisfied customer that would highly recommend a visit here for anyone that appreciates good quality vegan food.

Sadly didn't had the chance to taste my main as it took over an hour to get it (even though it was a salad!) and was not hungry by that time! The manager was not helpful and insisted that she just wanted for us to finish our started before sending the main even though we asked to receive everything together... We waited 45min between our started and the main we never received. I feel really disappointed as I was really looking forward trying out this 100% vegan pub!

  • 5/5 Rose G. 5 years ago on Google
I may be biased as this is right around the corner from me, but this is a delightful pub with a great range of craft beers on tap. Went for the vegan Mexican food which was delicious - got all 5 tacos of the moment, my top 3 were 'chorizo', 'bacon' and tofish. Don't be fooled, menu is 100% vegan, but 100% tasty for vegans and non vegans alike. You may want to reserve a table as more than half the pub was reserved or occupied at 7pm. A little slow to get served but may have been due to being a Tuesday, staff themselves were lovely.

I live round the corner from this pub and had only heard good things about it! I entered with a healthy dose of scepticism about how good a vegan version of festive favourites like ‘camembert’ would be. However, I needn’t have been so cynical as the food, drinks and service were absolutely A+++!! There was a small hick up when it came to the bill but this was very easily sorted and the staff were a real credit to the establishment! I hope things improve for you and the hospitality industry next year as I will certainly be returning at the nearest available opportunity. All the best, Charlie x

Great 100% vegan pub with really good food and a nice atmosphere. The only reason I’m giving it 4* is because even though the food is great, the portion size is too small for the price. I’m happy to pay a bit more for good vegan food but I like to finish my meal feeling full. If they up their portions, I’ll up my rating to 5*!

Went there on my own for lunch for the first time and I felt as if I was at home. Staff was friendly, took my order with reasonable waiting time, food and drink came quickly and overall it was an enjoyable lunch. Famous “hens of the woods” burger was delicious however it made realised that the blue cheese mayo is too strong for my taste buds. Chickpeas chips were 100% great, nevertheless, not too many for a price of 6£... I regretted not trying a desert, may be on the next visit. Overall I recommend this beautiful local place for its decor, staff friendliness and food too. :)

The pub is a lovely space, there are a few really clear things that could be done to make it a 5* experience: Food quality for price seems to come up o here several times and have to agree. We got “buffalo” burgers and really like hen of the woods, which was decent, but the burger felt cheap with the one bit of lettuce and pale tomato slice. The bun was cold and a bit hard and the ratio of filling to burger meant it was very bready. Not much else and basically a plain vegan chicken burger nothing buffalo about it. For a tenner it also didn’t come with chips or anything else so that was a let down and kind of killed the meal tbh. Pudding was decent; good helping of sticky toffee, that cheered the meal up a bit and made us not cry over the bill. Overall I’d come back for the ambience and a drink but not food.

I've had two really wonderful evenings here recently, one for my partner's 30th. The ambience is warm, welcoming, the food is delicious, the staff are very attentive and beyond friendly. Leah in particular looked after our party tirelessly and kind of made us feel like old friends. I was sad to see the previous tex-mex menu go, but the new menu has filled its shoes nicely. Pie, mash & liquor highly recommended, as is the chicken burger. We'll be back time and time again.

Such a nice atmosphere and yummy food! Vegan "must visit" spot, for sure! Definitely, recommend the fried plantain and chickpea "omelet" small plates! My only suggestions are to maybe chop the dried cranberries in the chickpea dish side salad more finely and maybe serve the delicious sticky toffee with syrup on the side so guests could go nuts pouring that over the ice cream?.. :)

Couldn't recommend this venue more for an event. Great communication with Tom from the start and he answered any questions I had. The venue is beautiful, I am ashamed to say out of all the times I visited the pub I had never been seen the function room. It is the perfect size for my 35 guests and it was gorgeous. Particularly love the cool neon sign! I pre ordered drinks which were already stored and chilled in the fridge. Table was already decked out with glasses and cutlery. And the food arrived on time and was delicious. Attentive staff throughout and couldn't do enough to help. It was drawn to the event location because they had such a reasonable booking charge compared most venues across London. Big thank you Tom and the Spread Eagle team for making it such a successful night. We will be returning for future functions !

Great all vegan pub! We went on new years eve & really appreciated being squeezed in without a booking. Service is friendly and attentive. Try the cocktail menu. On Sundays they do 3 variations of a roast and the beet wellington is the best vegan roast I have had!

Really refreshing to finally be able to go to a vegan pub and have a Sunday roast. Beet Wellington and nut roast very tasty! And yum Yorkshire puddings without any fear of goose fat! Potatoes and gravy a little disappointing; gravy tasted like it came from a packet and potatoes tasted like they were deep fried and then oven baked until tough outside. Bit of work and it could be excellent

We went for the Christmas feast and it was absolutely fantastic from the vibe to the decor to the service and of course the food! Many places serving vegan food can be underwhelming bit the chef in this pub is a gem! The menu is creative and absolutely tasty, zero disappointment ! I have added this gem to my list of favourite place and will be back for more! Keep going you all rock!!!

I had my birthday lunch at the Spread Eagle, the food was delicious, also my non vegan friends appreciated the variety and taste. Really nice atmosphere, the service was good and friendly. It's all a pub should be!

What an awful vegan roast - do not waste your time coming here. Unattentive staff and a hard, flavourless OVERPRICED meal. I think they are banking on the fact that they are the “only vegan pub” in London to get bookings, because anyone who knows good food wouldn’t waste their time. It’s not 1995 anymore so people expect a good vegan meal these days - I can’t imagine them staying open for business much longer with this abysmal food.

Beautiful place, incredible food and fantastic service! I celebrated my bday with more than 20 guests, only two vegan counting me but everyone was obsessed with the food. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I will certainly be back! Thanks Emma, Sherri and the others! 🤗

All vegan pub with tasty Sunday roast menu for all eating habits. The staff are very nice, the food was good (the caulifower chese was underwhelming, but the sticky toffe pudding was great!), and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Be sure to make a reservation in advance as it can get busy. I’d recommend this place for vegans and non-vegans.

Great vegan course menu and mom alcoholic beer on tap! Had a lovely soup, followed by but roast and the plum custard. Will be back!

I'd highly recommend coming here for lovely cocktails, service and ambiance. The Sunday Roast was average, we got all three varieties on our table and we were not overly satisfied. The Yorkshire Puddings were almost cake like. The ice cream was lovely but tart, not so great. I would definitely recommend the cocktails.

Visited last Sunday to catch up with friends, everything was incredible from start to finish! Such a nice vibe and great staff. The roast was outstanding, best in a while. Being a meat eater I had my doubts but really delish! Can’t wait to be back.

A friendly welcoming unpretentious pub with a great karaoke on a Friday and Saturday night. Great staff but please note they only take cards.

Staff were very unfriendly. Zero atmosphere for a Friday night. Cocktails were not that good either.

Outstanding food and really lovely staff. Amazing vegan pub. Chicken of the wood burger was brilliant

Nice pub, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Full vegan menu, but one of the places we go with meat eating parents because they do a solid selection of stuff! A selection of craft beers, including their own lager. Well worth a trip.

Karaoke, alcohol and good vibes sum this place up. Nothing heavy handed about the security and a well spirited crowd, which isn't as easy to find as you'd think. Just a bit of a shame that, like almost everything else in Shoreditch, it closes at 2am!

Signed up for karaoke and waited for over an hour, and in the end the karaoke organized just shrugged and said there’s no time left. We came to this pub specifically for karaoke, so I was really disappointed as we could have gone somewhere else.

They have a pub crawl turn up on Saturdays who take priority, which is unfair given that they clearly advertise that priority isn’t taken. If you’re looking to actually sing then I would avoid

The only vegan pub in London! Delicious food with good coffee and vegan Sunday roast. Superb interior with a garden. Highly recommend!

I can't say enough about the Sunday Roast and Beet Wellington! The food was mesmerizing and you'll leave stuffed. I'm still trying to figure out how the beet wellington was made. That gravy is special. I will have to work on that one too.

This place is incredible. At a loss as to why it’s not closer to 4.8 or 4.9 stars. Amazing food (doesn’t matter if you’re meaty, veggie or vegan - it’s delicious!) great beers and lovely atmosphere. Has a cool pool table area and cosy seating. Is this my new favourite pub in London?!
