Nothing
but
praise.
I
was
in
for
minor
surgery.
I
arrived
at
06.30
as
requested,
signed
a
couple
of
forms,
and
was
shown
straight
to
my
room
with
a
complimentary
newspaper
to
while
away
the
time.
I
was
visited
at
least
twice
by
nursing
staff
to
keep
me
updated,
and
again
by
my
surgeon
and
anaesthetist
to
answer
any
questions
I
had.
I
was
walked
down
to
theatre
at
09.15,
and
my
room
was
locked
-
reassuring,
as
my
phone,
wallet,
etc,
were
there.
Hardly
secure,
but
it
would
stop
random
passer-bys
from
pilfering
my
stuff.
Being
put
under
was
simple
and
pain
free
-
the
staff
seemed
to
know
what
they
were
doing,
and
were
friendly
enough
-
a
little
small
talk
went
a
long
way
to
calming
my
nerves.
Two
hours
later,
I
woke
up
in
recovery,
and
was
taken
back
to
my
room,
where
I
was
checked
every
30
minutes,
had
a
light
lunch
brought
to
me
-
a
choice
from
about
8-10
different
options
that
I'd
booked
earlier
-
and
then
left
to
snooze,
listen
to
podcasts,
and
so
on.
By
around
17.30,
I'd
been
visited
again
by
my
surgeon,
a
physio
and
a
couple
more
nurses,
been
brought
a
coffee
and
a
three
course
dinner
(tomato
and
red
pepper
soup,
pulled
beef
with
potato,
carrot
and
broccoli,
along
with
chocolate
pudding
and
custard,
in
case
you
were
wondering),
and
told
that
I
could
stay
overnight
if
|I
wanted,
or,
to
go
home
if
I'd
prefer
that.
Having
chosen
to
go
home,
I
was
given
a
bag
of
drugs
and
dressings,
given
a
discharge
letter
and
a
booklet
on
self-care,
and
a
survey,
and
allowed
to
get
dressed
and
make
my
way
to
the
nurses
station
to
leave,
where
my
hospital
ID
bracelet
was
cut
off.
I
was
then
walked
down
to
reception,
shaken
hands
with,
and
let
free.
This
isn't
a
review
of
the
surgery
itself,
obviously.
The
facilities:
easy
to
get
to
(I
got
an
Uber
in
that
morning,
but
there's
a
bus
stop
on
the
main
road,
about
a
5-10
minute
walk
up
the
drive);
car
parking
is
free
and
plentiful.
The
room
was
fine,
if
a
little
dated
in
places,
but
clean
enough.
Bathroom
was
clean,
two
towels
and
a
bath
mat
provided,
along
with
soap
and
shampoo
in
hotel-style
bottles.
TV
with
plenty
of
freeview
channels,
in
room
phone
(didn't
use).
Wifi
was
s-l-o-w
and
3G/4G
coverage
almost
non-existent.
The
staff:
I
didn't
feel
rushed,
and
every
question
was
answered.
About
50%
of
the
staff
I
came
across
didn't
have
English
as
a
first
language,
which
was
a
struggle
to
understand
when
I
just
came
round
from
surgery,
but
no
real
problems.
I
also
had
two
student
nurses
looking
after
me
as
well.
The
care:
regular
checks
by
nurses,
catering
staff
(to
deliver
food
and
remove
trays).
The
porters
were
helpful
and
friendly.
Downsides:
none,
really.
This
was
private
healthcare
managed
by
my
insurance,
so
I
didn't
get
to
see
any
bills,
so
I
can't
comment
on
accuracy
or
speed
of
that.
I
guess
the
real
question
is
would
I
choose
to
return
if
I
needed
anything
else?
Yes,
I
would,
absolutely.
