Once upon a time used to be one of the best shopping centres in South London. Now this place is in a dire state. So many shops such as JD Sports, Top Man, H&M have all closed down. Feels like a ghost town every time you walk through

The Centre gets a lot of bad press Inc high car park charges. I think these are being reviewed. I went by public transport. Whitgift is work in progress so not very lively. Visited Camden Coffee which was very friendly and coffee ok. Went over to Centrale which was lively with nice Christmas lights..also nice decorations in Whitgift. Costa located in Next. House of Fraser very well set up with lots of LED Christmas 🎄 lighting.

For such a beautiful space ,very little was happening. The centre has good transport links which makes the Mall easily accessible, however the flow through of shoppers was minimal. Croydon Council should try to spark new life into the centre before the chain stores back up and leave!!!

It's what I'd imagine a shopping centre looks like after an apocalypse. Growing up, Whitgift Centre was so exciting with great shops, lots going on and all the hustle and bustle. Now? Naff shops selling cheap tat, scaffolding everywhere, leaky roof, stinks of urine and somewhere I pass through as quickly as possible without stopping. River Island, M&S and Boots are about the only shops worth going there for

Superdry? More like super wet. Like something out of a zombie film, however you can make a game out of dodging the buckets they use to collect water, as you won't be doing any actual shopping. Now with Sainsbury's going they just need to level the place and start again, Westfield or no Westfield!

New pop up shop on 2nd Floor. The Windrush Generation Legacy Association unit is a tribute to the Windrush community and there is lots of information, a re-creation of living quarters as well great staff who are bursting with information. Worth a visit!!

Whitgift Centre itself has lots of leaky ceilings and vacant shops but there is still a good vibe. It feels like it is waiting for the changes that keep being promised but aren't being delivered on. We went to see some of the art installations and these and the shops that were supporting our young Croydon artists are inspiring and hint at a brighter future.

The nice center of the city is a place where you can find many attractions and activities to enjoy. You can visit the museums, the parks, the shops, and the restaurants that offer a variety of cuisines and flavors. The nice center is also well-connected by public transportation, making it easy to explore other parts of the city as well. Whether you are looking for culture, entertainment, or relaxation, the nice center has something for everyone.

See Security guards, here & there. See cleaners here & there, quietly doing their jobs. So one feels confident, to shop around safe, clean place. It has a Public toilet upstairs - it's clean & well looked after. Thank-you.

The once glorious shopping centre now looks as if it belongs in an area that is in the midst of conflict. Most of the units are closed whilst those that remain open are full of tat. There is absolutely no reason to come to the Whitgift to shop. Croydon Council need to do something really imaginative to regenerate the area - probably something that has nothing to do with retail.

This place was a busy vibrant shopping centre in 1993. Now visiting in 2023, so many shop units are empty and the place lacks atmosphere. Where has it gone, along with Alders? Clean, tidy and quiet. Parking is onsite for a charge. Buses and tram links are nearby also.

A decade ago when I first went to Whitgift Centre, it was still clean and full of life (many shops are open). And now, it’s muggy and sad. There’s still shops though but majority were closed, looks like it’s going to closed soon?! I don’t know, That kind of feel when you walk in the bldg. and the tunnel footpath is very filthy and There’s people sleeping over there with their sleeping bags and tent. But nobody stopped them, 🤷‍♀️ It just gives a bad impression for the Centre.

Not as busy as it has been in past years. Many shops having closed down due to austerity, COVID etc. Some good places to eat and clothing shops but centre needs rejuvenating and more big name businesses to return. Croydon council, lower your rates, bring in business, help the town prosper!

You can get almost anything you need in one place. Parking is available but not so cheap. There is good bus and train links too. Personally I find some of the workers in that building to be quite rude, maybe because they have a lot of customers, dunno?

Croydon has changed over the years, the Whitgift centre is a bit run down with a lot of big name shops having moved away. Car park is filthy and i felt unsafe as it was quite dark. I will go to Crawley in future.

Feels a bit empty and dull, the curry place next to the escalators brilliant... If know what u want go grab it, is good for that, oh and don't let me even start about the stairs to the car park... 😑

There is a great game the car park wants everyone to play. You drive straight in as there is no barrier, you park, shop eat whatever you do in Croydon and then return to your car. Although there are cameras to monitor when you come in and when you leave the best part of the game is that the machine asks you how long you have been there and pay that amount. The hilarious part of the game is that if you get that wrong and you do not pay enough, they send you a fine in the post for £100. Haha my sides are still split😂😂. Then😂😂 they send you the photos of actually good long you did park and could have told you that all along 😅😅😅😅😅 jeez I have wet myself.

it is one of the shopping centre, more accessible, fair price, massive choice,,excellent security system, marvellous decoration and the ground floor,it is one of the best masterpiece of design.it is also very good for the back way in,because that's of a subway you can have easy and fast access if you need to reach the pavements main road, full of shops and all the fun you are looking for.in Croydon it is one of the most extraordinary and fully step forward, for any kind of people, young, disables, elders and what else,it deserve to be visited for see all the engineering work has been done and stylish.......wow have a go you will never regret it.

So so gone downhill since I first started shopping and drinking here (remember the Forum) in the late 70's. Hardly any shoppers around there now even on Saturdays and so many empty units, mind you Centrale and the rest of Croydon is the same. Sad really but if Westfield ever comes to fruition it may pick up again 🤔

I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean this place is! The floors, toilets etc. A good collection of shops and small cafes tucked away offer healthy meals at quite reasonable prices. The Open Air Car park is a great place to park for very competitive prices. Overall a good experience.

This shopping mall is huge covering most of the brand's like superdry, superdrug, boots, Clarks, perfumes, hair dresser, stationary and many more. Toilet are available on ground floor and on level 3. A few shops like EE, O2 and Curry's had moved from this place.

Once a upon a time this was the place to go for all your shopping, food and social needs. It was the heartbeat of Croydon town centre. Now it is a shadow of it's former self. Almost dying right in front of our eyes. A lot of units have closed, only big companies remain. Not the feel good place it once was.

Such a shame Croydon used to be the place to shop. Old or young you could see them all busy doing their thing. Now only half the shops are open and the center is run down. Leaking roof everywhere you look. The Christmas decorations have been used for over 5 years. Two toy shops. Two card shops. Two chemists. Sainsbury's, marks and Spencer and that's about your lot. A few little shops but nothing like it used to be. If it wasn't for Primark being just down the road I don't know how much shopping would be done in whitgift. Most people now go to Bromley as it has much more of a selection.

I used to live in croydon just over ten years ago and needed to pop back this weekend and was really disappointed to see what The Whitgift Centre has become. So many shops I remember are closed, some filled with much worse offerings but many more left completely empty. The place was dead. We attended a workshop put on by centrale/whitgift which was really great but the centre itself was looking run into the ground. Large areas of the central concourse are fenced off for ‘improvement works’ which makes it quite difficult to move around. We parked in the car park which was an ok price, the good thing was there were a lot of spaces available because nobody else was visiting this shopping centre!

An enormous shopping centre in the heart of Croydon, however it almost feels too big as there seems to be so much empty space. A fair few retail units appeared to be shut or closed down, and the whole centre had a stuck-in-the-past vibe to it. One cool thing that I did notice is that some of the escalators have glass side panels to them so you can see the mechanical goings-on of how they work! Overall though, the centre was a bit of a disappointment, and in need of a regeneration.

The Whitgift Center offers a premium shopping experience nestled within a dynamic urban setting. Boasting an impressive array of high-end brand shops including Sainsbury's, Boots, Superdrug, and a variety of coffee shops, it caters to discerning shoppers seeking quality and convenience. Its collection of prestigious retailers creates a sophisticated ambiance, drawing in fashion enthusiasts, beauty aficionados, and those with refined tastes. The availability of renowned brands like Sainsbury's and Boots ensures that visitors have access to a diverse range of products, from groceries to health and beauty essentials. The Center's strategic layout maximizes accessibility and ease of navigation, contributing to a seamless shopping journey. Shoppers can indulge in retail therapy, punctuated by delightful breaks at the inviting coffee shops that provide a moment of relaxation amidst the shopping hustle. While the allure of high-end brands certainly attracts attention, it's the fusion of upscale shopping and comfortable amenities that truly sets the Whitgift Center apart. This shopping haven successfully merges luxury with practicality, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a refined and enjoyable shopping excursion.

Croydon...sigh. this place should be closed down. Not croydon generally but Whitgift. It's depressing. Don't get me started on the car park and the urine smell. Avoid it and you will be happier for doing so.

Really nice shop. Lots to look at worth popping in best place to buy my jeans from. Worth extra Bob or two as jeans last more than primark. My goto place for my jeans .Like fact New Look also do short leg and petite sizes which is very helpful and also the teenage range. Just teenage range needs to be bit bigger as children are not all one size tbh. Hopefully New Look won't shift or go from Croydon.

Unfortunately, the centre has lost most of its appeal. To many shop closures and the lack of incentive to buy is sad. There are only a handful of shops worth visiting in there. The atmosphere is just sad, dark and depressing. Croydon needs to encourage new business opportunities, to revitalise the area. It’s really sad to see what has happened to some great stores in Croydon.

Whitgift is like the land mark shopping centre for Croydon. I remember shopping there in 2002, and I'm happy to be back 2023. And it's still there. So many good shopping memories.

Although some stores have closed which is a shame, it is a nice shopping centre with different stores inside. Which is good cause if it rains outside, you dont have the burden of getting wet going from store to store

Very run down shopping centre lots of empty or closed shops. I parked in old allders car park not a pleasant experience no lights felt unsafe walking through by myself couldn't wait to leave. I used to regularly shop there but not anymore very sad how council has let Croydon become so run down. Such a shame.

  • 1/5 David M. 2 years ago on Google
The Whitgift Centre used to be a slightly outdated and tired shopping centre. Due to the poor management, and subsequent cancellation, of the proposed Westfield Centre many shops now lay empty. As a result it is now a very run down and much less enticing place to visit with the added bonus of some of the highest car park fees you can find. Not to mention the urine soaked car park hallways and gloomy, poorly lit, walkways into the centre. They may only be a few yards or so but it is discomforting and unpleasant I feel uncomfortable visiting it and so I don't.

  • 1/5 Lillian L. 2 years ago on Google
The only good place in there is Marks and Spencer. But even that is jaded. More empty shops than open. A great shopping centre in its time, but now we'll past its sell by date.

  • 2/5 Susannah P. 2 years ago on Google
This shopping centre used to be bright vibrant and busy with a great atmosphere....that was not too long ago either, it was a great place to do xmas shopping. Now its just become a ghost town with the vast majority of the shops now empty or void of reopening. Its like walking into an abandoned mall. A few shops remain open but dont bargain on getting a good experience here unless you want a bare boring day... such a shame too.

  • 2/5 Ris A. 2 years ago on Google
Such a shame that its in Croydon High Street. You can't go there without being accosted. You have people asking you to sign up for everything or asking you for money. Awful experience. I only went to the centre because my child was at a nearby birthday party so I went to Clarks Shoe Shop. Never again!

Don't live in a nearby area anymore. However, whenever go there for any other purposes try to visit back again. Very spacious and massive shopping centre in such a busy place. The paid parking area is additional hassle-free support. Many of the main brands are available. Highly recommended for a visit.

Place is falling apart barely any shops left inside. Roofs under repair work makes the place look even worse than it is, genuine opinion, move all the shops to centrale with good rates. Close whitgift for a full refurbishment

Since there was talk of Westfield bringing Croydon a lovely new modern shopping centre, lots of company's have left Whitgift. So a few empty shops, but those that are still there are worth a visit, there's lots of choice along with friendly helpful staff. Hopefully Croydon will get the shopping centre it deserves.

Its old outdated. Many of the shops have moved on and closed. The centre not what it used to be not sure why it is still opened. There is nothing exciting or good about the centre anymore. Say compared to the glaze, or westfields. I only go there for basic things and I'm gone after an hour or less. If I'm going to shop and enjoy the day then I would avoid Whitgift shopping centre the council has let it die a slow and painful decline in anything good

Whitgift Centre is old but it is nice. Many shops having closed down due to austerity, or COVID etc The shopping centre is spacious and houses M&S and Sainsbury's. There are two floors which are accessible from the street level. worth visiting if you are in the area.

Good place, many shops and thay have a play are coffee for kids. The only down is that sometimes the parking machine is not working. If you have the app "pay by phone" its much easy and fast to pay for your parking space.

Where shopping goes to die! All decent shops closing and tacky cheap shops popping up. Lots of begging and homelessness. Lots of charity workers asking for donations. Young people trying to sell things such as cds mags they've made etc... All in all not the greatest shopping experience here I'm afraid

  • 3/5 Andrew J. 1 year ago on Google
Whitgift centre sadly is no longer the shopping destination for South London. owing to the pandemic lots of businesses have closed and the shopping centre is clearly on its last legs. Needs an urgent overhaul to attract shoppers to this once jewel in the crown for shopping in South London.

Nothing much to see. It's a ghost town but with Zombies. People just wondering around looking lost & confused. This was me as I don't understand what is happening with the area anymore. The stores look like they sell reject items. The quality and display of things have dropped, the standards have gone right down even more so with the closure of many stores. Might be a good location to film a sci fi movie or any movie if they need a dreary story line this location is perfect.. lol

Best place to go for the weekly and day to day shopping under one roof. In Croydon this is one of the most visited shopping centre. 50+ shops, including 2 department store and fashion stores, only one place who have samsung support center for mobile and tablets, Samsung support center have good staff and very helpful staff One of the best shopping malls have been in Croydon. But not many food choices around there available.

I have never seen the Whitgift so devoid of shops and people. Maybe, 1/2 of the shops were shut. I remember in the 2000s when it was bustling. I can only speculate that this situation is due to Covid-19 and or recession. I bought a pair of shoes from Clarkes. The shop assistant who served me was excellent

Was Very Big Crowd when I last visited but its understandable because was before Christmas,Other than that I can't complain at all. Reasonable parking charge, the same as to park on the street the only downside of the parking is that you have to drive like 12 full circles untill you get to it and you might have a headache once on the top. I am happy with ot overall 8 out of 10 points !

For someone who doesn't like shopping, this is the perfect shopping centre because it doesn't have any shops (well, hardly any left open). You can exercise by walking through it briskly if it's raining. Croydon town centre in general is almost post-apocalyptic, full of boarded up shops, piles of rubbish, homeless people, drunks, the stench of urine and a general atmosphere of urban decay. I recommend West Croydon train station highly as a way of getting out of Croydon double fast.

  • 2/5 J E. 1 year ago on Google
Croydon Town Centre and the Whitgift Centre are very run down. Lots of empty units and pop up shops throughout. Shops closing. Unrecognisable. Definitely needs some love. Only go to Croydon Town Centre now when meeting friends for lunch that work there. Would not choose as a place to shop.

  • 2/5 Andy H. 2 years ago on Google
The parts I had to walk through seemed almost abandoned, and there were hardly any people in there at 4.30 in the afternoon. Other sections might have been more like what you would expect a shopping centre to be, but the entrance from the main dual carriageway side was like a ghost town.
