It
is
a
radio
tower
located
in
Fitzrovia
area
of
London,
UK,
owned
by
British
Telecom.
The
Tower
has
also
been
known
as
the
Post
Office
Tower
and
London
Telecom
Tower.
Notably,
the
tower
is
not
the
BT
Centre,
the
headquarters
of
the
BT
group.
To
the
outside
world,
the
inside
of
the
BT
tower
is
a
mystery.
As
an
important
relay
station
for
microwave
communications,
the
BT
Tower
is
not
even
marked
on
the
Maps
of
the
UK
Land
Survey
Department.
The
Bt
Tower
opened
to
the
public
in
1965.
In
response
to
security
threats,
from
the
early
1970s
the
BT
tower
was
closed
to
the
public
for
most
of
the
time
and
used
only
for
internal
company
entertainment.
The
bt
Tower
restaurant
closed
in
1980
and
was
then
invitation-only.
To
coincide
with
the
Open
House
event,
which
begins
on
September
19,
2010.
The
BT
Tower
opened
to
the
public
in
September,
the
first
time
the
London
landmark
has
been
open
to
the
public
in
nearly
30
years.
