We
had
been
looking
forward
to
afternoon
tea
at
the
Savoy
for
a
weeks,
meeting
with
friends
from
the
US
for
a
“typical
English
occasion”.
We
were
so
disappointed!
After
being
sat
at
our
table
we
were
quickly
brought
our
sandwiches
and
glasses
of
sparkling
wine.
After
half
an
hour
spent
trying
to
attract
our
waiter’s
attention,
I
had
to
walk
to
the
kitchen
service
area
to
stand
and
wait
for
him
to
emerge
to
remind
him
that
he
still
needed
to
take
our
tea
order
and
bring
the
non-alcoholic
drink
one
of
our
party
had
ordered.
Once
ordered,
the
tea
arrived
quite
quickly
and
we
started
to
eat
the
very
tasty
sandwiches
we
had
ordered.
A
little
while
later,
before
we
had
finished
our
sandwiches,
our
scones
and
cakes
were
brought
out.
Unlike
most
other
places
we
have
had
afternoon
tea,
we
were
not
offered
the
opportunity
to
have
more
sandwiches
before
our
cakes.
The
scones
were
lovely,
the
lemon
curd
speciality
was
really
good,
but
we
were
disappointed
by
the
cakes
which
seemed
to
about
the
look
rather
than
the
flavours.
Not
bad,
but
not
up
to
the
standard
I
would
have
hoped
for.
But
what
really
did
annoy
me
was
when
our
waiter
came
over
to
us
and
told
us
we
needed
to
vacate
our
table
for
the
next
sitting.
Having
kept
us
waiting
for
so
long
at
the
start
of
our
booking
to
take
our
tea
order,
it
was
not
nice
to
be
rushed
out.
The
environment
is
lovely,
the
setting
splendid.
I
don’t
know
if
the
Thames
Foyer
was
short
staffed
the
day
we
visited
or
whether
service
is
normally
this
functional,
but
we
were
made
to
feel
like
we
were
just
payments
on
a
conveyor
belt
to
be
shunted
in
and
shunted
out
for
the
next
payment
to
take
their
place
at
the
table.
In
summary,
don’t
have
Afternoon
Tea
at
the
Savoy.
Rather
go
to
the
Dorchester,
the
Ritz
or
even
the
Swan
by
the
Globe
Theatre.
Our
experience
even
put
me
off
staying
at
the
Savoy
if
this
was
typical
of
their
way
of
looking
after
their
customers.
So
sad.
