An oasis of calm in Haggerston, just off Kingsland Road, Hackney. An independent charity running this inner city garden; growing and selling plants, vegetables, honey and home-made preserves at reasonable prices. Open Monday to Friday, admission free. Professionally staffed and supports, through Occupational Health, volunteers with learning difficulties. Had the pleasure of volunteering here one Friday as part of my employer’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme - gardening, building closhes, clearing rubbish etc. - so great to see the employees and volunteers in action. A great place to visit and a local charity worthy of support.

Theme On Silence held at At St Mary's Secret Garden. It's a real community centre and garden. Lots of ideas on growing herbs, vegetables and flowers. There is a library in one of the sheds and bags of ideas for you to adapt for your own garden. There is a small kitchen and washroom facilities. It's a great place to hold an event such as a theme on Silence or Environmental issues. It's a living community with a heart and vision

This garden is absolutely beautiful! Most of the plants are for sale, other than for decoration, which is actually a good thing. Too bad is only open during the week. Make sure you smell the roses, they have the most amazing smell.

Excellent community facility that had eluded me when I lived there a while back. If I am being picky they aren't looking after some of the planting that we'll but as it's been the driest July for many years it's not a surprise. If you're in the Haggerston area find this for yourself.

This is a beautiful and comfortable garden, used and tended by many special needs adults and their carers. It has many corners to explore and is a lovely riot of flowers especially in summer. There are also vegetable and wooded areas and lots of things to talk to kids about. And there are plenty of plants for sale, refreshments, and helpful staff (All volunteers I think)

Great green hide away with everything a local resident or gardener might want at a fraction of the price in major nationals. Peace n quiet, wildlife, floral smells, homemade produce and very helpful volunteers and staff. Well worth a visit n take your plastic too.

Fantastic local garden, providing support to people with disabilities, long term health conditions & those with dementia. Sells great plants too at bargain prices - grown & nurtured by the people to raise funds for the charity & provide wellbeing activities.

Lovely unexpected find just down the road from the much better-known Geffrye Museum (aka Museum of the Home). Inspiring undisciplined planting, places to sit around, lots of affordable indoor and outdoor plants for sale.

We visited the secret garden as part of the London open gardens. It was a tranquil garden, where a gentleman was playing a guitar softly, which enhanced the peaceful environment.

This is a community driven project in Hoxton that is used to grow vegetables and flowers. It is used to encourage and help those with long term health issues. Near Hoxton Overground station.

I actually did my NVQ in Horticulture at this beautiful hidden gem. Tucked away among the concrete jungle of Haggerston is the Oasis of calm that is St. Mary's Secret Garden. Wandering pathways lead you through the intense planting. Find the sensory garden to experience the fragrances and touch of inspired planting in raised beds. They also have plants for sale and locally produced honey. Well worth a visit.
