First time in London and WOW!!! Was visiting for only 24 hours from Chicago. I wanted to hit up a few local spots while I was here and this was the first on my list. I did some searching online and on Google and this seemed like a spot I would love, so I headed that way! The two ladies working were so friendly and helpful. They really made the experience even more enjoyable for me. I asked them to choose what I should get and I loved everything they suggested. It was my first time trying eel like that and they let me sample it as I was about to head out. They also recommended I try a local drink called the Sarsaparilla, so I gave it a try and it really just made my London experience that much more enjoyable. I can’t wait to come back to London soon and I will definitely be stopping by again!

Delicious pie and mash! Remember to get liquor with it -- it's traditional and it tastes better. The jellied eels are also very tasty and you buy an entire plateful which is good for sharing. I liked using their hot chili vinegar on the jellied eels and the mash. It added a lot more flavour! Drench it if you can, as the food is not that seasoned in the first place. The pies are nice and reasonably salty though.

It's really difficult to rate, because if you're not a local or a regular customer - and there were plenty of those coming in while I was there, which is always a good sign - then Manze's is as much a museum exhibit or an experience as a restaurant. I didn't get to go to Manze's in the 50s, 60s and 70s, but my parents and their families did, and they tell me that it hasn't changed. They didn't get to go in the 1920s, but I doubt it had changed much then either. Original tiles, bench seats with no individual tables, traditional hand made pies and decent liquor, all as it used to be. So what you get is decent, honest food, at incredible prices, that's an exact replica of the experience of just over a hundred years ago.

Walked here from London bridge under a heavy rain, but we got compensated by their delicious pie and mash! Two plates and 2 soft drinks: 15£80! Wonderful

Definitely an experience, worth the trip. Super friendly staff, even gave me a free eel to try. The pie is crispy and well baked, superb mash. The eel was akin to tuna and not bad honestly. The liquor is just not my jam but add chili vinegar and it was a great meal.

Visited this pie and mash establishment as I’ve heard many people speak highly of it over the years. However as a visitor to many pie and mash shops monthly over a year, I thought this was okay but nothing special which was the impression I’d been given. Inside was nice and traditional however the food didn’t have that X factor and tastiness that some have, the mash was good though. The ice cream on offer was quite poor quality too. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and parking was easy and it was open on a Sunday ( many aren’t).

We unexpectedly bumped into M.Manze. Here you’ll find THE BEST PIE’S of London. I never tasted something so good. And: very affordable prices. We also loved the friendly staff!. Much love from The Netherlands, guys.

I have longed to come here ! My first experience was absolutely the way I would expect it. Lovely, friendly staff and so welcoming. I went there today with my husband (newlyweds yesterday) and ordered pie, mash, liquor and gravy with jellied eels.. best ever! We are coming back here tomorrow. This place has so much history I am so fascinated. Best traditional pie and mash. Thank you for having us 😊

I think this would be my second time eating in as I remember having pies and mash here years ago when I was about 14 at the time and I'm 37 now! Haha! :D The pies are very tasty indeed! I love the meat (lamb?) and gravy inside the pies as it is absolutely delicious! One single mash is enough as it's quite filling! When we arrived though there were two members of staff chatting away amongst themselves which I found to be unprofessional especially in front of customers and seemed a bit distracted when taking my mums order. She nearly charged us for two mash instead of one. I found the inside of the shop a bit dated as they still have those old fashioned tables, chairs, tiles (A few of them needed renewed as they seemed a bit cracked in places) I suppose it's all part of the old fashion tradition of a pie and mash shop. It's still nice though but could do with a bit of a make over. Very clean shop. More soap in the toilet was needed while we were there! The shop wasn't that busy while we dined in today and there were a few range of different cultures which was interesting because years ago you would mostly see English people eating the old pie and mash. Haha. How times have changed where we now live in a very open and very modern society! :) Overall, we definitely enjoyed our experience! And will definitely come back again! :) Thanks again! :)

Came here especially with my husband as he wanted to experience London Pie, Mash, Liquor and stewed eels! This place didn't disappoint. Great girls who worked there and customer service. Husband says it's the best pie he has ever tasted! Even bought the baby bib for our little one.

Fantastic place for jellied eels, pie and mash! I enjoyed all the flavours and the friendly staff :) Lots of benches to sit inside (we found one around 11:45am) and one bathroom upstairs.

Old-fashioned pie and mash shop. Really enjoyed the food here, and the service was just impossibly friendly and homey. My wife and I felt so at-home and welcomed by the two kind ladies behind the counter. We probably would have stayed and chatted longer if not for such a busy schedule. She told us to flip the pies upside down and add the vinegar, a good touch for sure. The pie and mash were both delicious, and the sarsaparilla was worth a try too!

Was in London with my son for the first time and we wanted to try this classic. We were welcomed by two wonderful gals and given a brief history of pies in London. My son loved the mince pie and mash which was a surprise as he is quite picky most times. We also enjoyed the ambience of the place with the wooden benches - all around a thumbs up from us. We will hopefully be back at some point! Greetings from Germany

Overall Experience 1. Pie and mash and liquor - pie didn’t specify what’s inside. It’s mushy and tasteless. Liquor is a bit blend and watery. Mash could be smoother. 2. Jellied eel - once in a lifetime experience. Too fishy for me 3. Service - very friendly staff 4. Serving time - 15 mins 5. Affordability - affordable 5. Atmosphere - clean

The worst food experience in London! The gravy tastes like snot with starch. Mash potato was absolutely dry and tasteless. The pie was fatty, and the filling is not made of meat, but of some kind of cartilage and lard. I wasn’t able to eat it.

A well preserved time capsule, with food and a taste from another time. It’s amazing and valuable that this culture gets preserved. But Is it good? For me, it was bland and stodgy. Then again, I’m still super glad I went and would encourage anyone who’s curious to give it a try for themselves. An experience, hope they stay open for many more decades to come.

Incredible dining experience that takes you back to a world 100 years ago. The room, the staff uniforms and food choice are all totally authentic. Sit and soak up the atmosphere! Make sure to give the eels a try! For first timers, start with stewed eel, and then progress to jellied eels! A fabulous institution!

Lovely service, in this classic traditional pie and mash shop. I felt the food lacked seasoning, but maybe my taste buds are getting old! However, there was salt, pepper, and an excellent chilli vinegar on the tables. All in all, a must when visiting London.

Had double pie and mash with liquor. It was excellent. The food was hot and tasty, just the thing on a freezing day. The staff were lovely and, my food was served very quickly. Would definitely recommend.

If you like pie and mash, this is for you. Still going well over 100 years after opening and keep the food real. If you haven't tried pie and mash, give it a go, very reasonable price, and you might be a convert.

Oldest surviving pie house in London. Double pie and mash is always the order of the day. If you have not been, get yourself and everyone you know down there treat yourself.

I’d never tried Manzes before as my family are avid Arments lovers! So when I found myself in the area, I had to pop in. The pies here are delicious. Eat here for piping hot liquor poured over crispy filled pies and smooth mash. Proper comfort food. Don’t forget your Sasparilla!
