Nothing short of disgusting. If I could give no stars then I would! Entered via a filthy main entrance covered in grime and cigarette ends - is it too much to ask that a major Hospital in our capital city at least looks clean and welcoming upon arrival? Perhaps spend some of the funds that paid for the most confusing lift system ever on cleaning? Finally found my Father in Law as he had been moved but no one informed us and even better no one knew where he was. Eventually located where he was and was greeted by the most ignorant and uncaring sister that one could ever wish to meet. Luckily there was a really helpful nurse who did assist us. He was in a room with 3 others in a ward that was akin to a sauna with no ventilation and no fans etc. the bathroom was dirty and had old tissue and clothing on the floor. The toilet had not been flushed in awhile and we had to call staff to deal with a man in distress in the bed opposite. When they eventually responded to the buzzer they just pulled a sheet over him and left. My father in laws name was not even over his bed as the previous patient's name was still there so God forbid if anyone did not check before administering any drugs etc. All in all a terrible experience and needs a lot of care and attention. Managers here need to get their ***** in gear and sort it out.

This is one of the greatest hospitals of all time. The place is clean and tidy. It looks great. The ambiance is alright. The price of food from the cafeteria in the building is outrageous however it is all organised well. There are signs inside which help you easily locate what ever it is you are looking for. The staff members here are polite with great etiquette. The building has lifts which take you to the clinics and also have stairs which are not so tedious. I have been to this hospital on many occasions and have never once witnessed anything negative.

Horrible hospital , and unprofessional staffs! I’ve been waiting 7 hours just to have gave some my blood for test . After that , nobody visit me again or gave me the result . I waited I total 7 hours from 1.30 am to 8 am . The first doctor told me : you going to be the next one soon , 1hour and half later still nobody called me . I asked about some news regards my turn to an another doctor , He said that If I wasn’t die I could still wait there … after more then 7 hours of waiting hearing that isn’t not really nice .. I left . And this guy(doctor ) was happy about my leaving . Never again here , I would prefer to die in the street instead of coming here again ! Thanks for you “amazing “service , royal free hospital If someone goes to emergency sector there will be a reason ! Check out all your employees please !

I was an inpatient here for seven days after having major surgery. I consider myself a very resilient person however my experience at this hospital has left me completely broken. As a patient, particularly when you're so vulnerable, you expect to be treated with kindness, dignity and respect which did not happen. Not only does nobody tell you what is being done to your body and why but consent is ignored. For example, I did not want to receive a bed bath because I was very tired and expressed this to the nurse. She ignored me and started aggressively undressing and washing me. I kept saying no and crying but she kept hurting me and holding me down. It was a humiliating experience. I will also never forget the night another patient was crying and howling in pain and the nurses at the station were laughing and making jokes about her instead of helping. When I raised concerns I was treated like a 'difficult' patient and not taken seriously. On another occasion a doctor came in while I was still half asleep and and told me that I needed an intimate examination and swab and proceeded to lift the covers and examine me without explaining what it was for or obtaining consent. I still don't know why this was carried out or the result of the swabs that were taken. Please avoid this hospital if you can as there seems to be zero accountability for abusive staff. How you are treated seems to depend on whether you're lucky enough to be placed on a ward with kind and caring staff and this simply isn't good enough.

The worst nhs hospital I’ve ever attended. As soon as I entered the emergency department I was greeted by an extremely unprofessional and rude receptionist. The hospital clearly states that 1 family member per patients allowed. 111 had also advised us that my partner should wait with me. Just for my partner to be told that she should go home (2.5 hours away) or wait outside in an extremely condescending tone, no sympathy at all. When confronted about said tone, the second receptionist replied “that’s just how she talks” and snickered as I was walking away. Then went on to wait over 8 hours in excruciating pain. The cleanliness is also disgusting. Clear dividers in the Emergency room being covered in what looks like splatters of vomit / mucus. Toilet check sheets that haven’t been signed in weeks. Staff eating McDonald’s in-front of patients that have been waiting 10 hours or more with no access to vending machine food or other. All in all no professionalism or sympathy for patients at all.

If you are going Private through this Hospital i suggest you think very hard before doing so. The nurses are the worst , they have no compassion and are extremely rude . My daughter was in a lot of pain and rang the buzzer several times , it took 35 minutes for a nurse to attend and then then tells her ' we heard you the first time '. After she complained the next injection was a bit force full and painful . I have also seen the responses from the hospital to al the other negative comments and to be honest they are poor and pathetic and almost repetitive . Royal Free , you guys should hang hour heads in shame , its just not good enough and it doesn't seem like you are going to improve any time soon , such a shame . This country is broken and the money we pay for the service in the UK just doesn't measure up , we now live in a society in this country where nobody is listening and nobody cares .

Location The hospital is situated by Hampstead Heath in a nice part of town. Services All hospital services are provided here including Accident & Emergency. Parking There are lots of disabled parking spaces at the hospital but even these are not enough during peak periods Monday - Friday. There is also an ordinary car park which offers around 15 spaces and charges £3/hour. If you are traveling to the hospital alone, I strongly suggest using a minicab or public transport unless you can get someone to drop you off. Cleanliness Good cleanliness for an NHS hospital and staff are responsive to reports of situations where attention might be needed. Unfortunately the hospital is not enforcing mask wearing which I think is a risky move and some folks are wearing masks and some folks are not which puts vulnerable patients at risk - lose a star because of this. Shops There is a WH Smith onsite which has 3 self-service tills and a staff member present if needed. Additionally, there is an M&S Food outlet opposite and a small seating area. Lifts Lifts use a new "modern" system where you need to tap the floor you want to go to outside the lift in the lobby area and then the screen tells you which lift to take. E.g. to go to the 6th floor, you tap 6 and then the screen will say "Goto lift D" etc. Note that there are no numbers inside the lift so you cannot change floor when inside.

Visited A&E here 10 times over a 6 month period. Every time with terrible pain in my right abdomen and shoulder blades. Told me it was nothing every time and even sent me home twice with iv still in my arm. Had to go to another hospital where a trainy doctor diagnosed a very painful gallbladder condition. Very scary hospital full of incompetent staff who could have cost me my life. Never will I go near here again.no wonder they reset all their reviews.

The dirtiest hospital I’ve ever been in. And I’ve been to hospital in India and more. Trash all over the floors, filthy toilets, just a disgrace. This should be a public outcry, the least you’d expect from a hospital is cleanliness. During the procedure - a cannula being inserted, so a very sterile procedure - a cleaner came and swept under the bed. During the procedure. Just completely insane. The state of this hospital is symptomatic of Britain as a whole. Unloved, no care taken, and arrogant. There are staff members trying to do great work here. But the system and the way they are paid and treated is failing all of us. Wait time - we had been referred here by our GP for a severe case of food poisoning, leaving my partner shivering, vomiting, etc etc - we spent over 5.5hrs in the hospital. There is no urgency to be seen in the Emergency department. At one point we got seen quicker because I asked about pain relief, and went through to the Dr section to find 5 medical staff members sitting around chatting.

My grandfather was shifted from the Wellington hospital to the 12th floor (private rooms) of the royal free hospital and we couldn’t be happier to be here. The nurses and doctors here were extremely helpful and caring. Through the toughest times it was a blessing to be surrounded by nurses who treated him as family and were extremely understanding with him. I’d highly recommend the Royal Free Hospital and rest assured he/she will be well taken care off

Someone urinated in the coffee machine and not recently. It smells stagnant. I can't understand how in a hospital it hasn't been cleaned or removed. The receptionist says that it's not the hospital coffee machine... OK so should they not be contacting the company to have the dirty thing removed or cleaned since (inside a hospital) it poses a serious health hazard? Also no hand sanitizer. No cups for the drinking water. We arrived at 9pm with 7 in the waiting room at midnight there was still 3 of us waiting. 4 patients were seen in 3 hours in urgent treatment centre. When we actually got inside there was so many staff on duty. It seems they are taking it in their stride and having a really lovely relaxing time behind the doors

Awful experience at the Emergency department at Royal Free Hospital. Took my daughter, as instructed by 111 service, after she had passed out in pain. She was told that I HAD to stay with her throughout, yet staff told me this wasn't allowed when we arrived and said NHS 111 service were liars. Eventually managed to get them to agree for me to be with her, but the nurse just asked her for a urine sample, told her she didn't know what the problem was and to go home and take Paracetamol! As if she hadn't already been doing this for the past week!! No blood tests, no scans, no observations at all. Absolutely useless! We are no further forward in finding out what the problem is and my daughter is still in excruciating pain. I don't know if the staff there aren't qualified or just don't care about patient's health. Either way, There's no point having an Emergency department there at all. All the main doors are locked, there is no signage for the Emergency department, so, if like us, you are disabled or in extreme pain, you are left wandering about the hospital grounds in the dark, trying to ask for directions. Disabled parking is on ground level, yet Emergency department is the level below, which is only accessible by several flights of stairs. Honestly, they couldn't make it any more difficult or non user-friendly if they tried.

First of all, I would like to thank all the staff, they showed a lot of professionalism, friendliness, an atmosphere that I can't forget. I had a very pleasant experience. I want to especially thank Natasha and Sara for all the professionalism and time dedicated to me, thanks to them I gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby girl and I felt so good and safe in their hands. Congratulations to all the hospital staff, you are doing an excellent job

After an EIGHT HOUR wait at A&E and then a further TWO HOUR wait just to recieve urine and blood test results, a nurse wearing blue on the ward, responded sarcastically, "Greeeaaat!", when i politely informed him we were still waiting. Never, ever again Royal Free. What a disgraceful way to respond to a sick patient whose taxes pay for NHS salaries!

15 years ago, I had an accident that needed plastic surgery and they operated on me here. I’d love to know the name of the doctor who operated on me, he was an American gentleman. The care I received here was excellent, the nurses were very caring and professional. 15 years later and I’m graduating from medical school in 2 months (God willing). If someone can help me find out the name of that plastic surgeon that would be great!

Waited for less than half an hour in children A&e was seen by the Dr , then in the xray the wait was a bit longer since there were lots of people before us. In general the service has improved a lot since my last visit but the bleach smell is veryyyy strong in the children section which really gave me a headache

Had an ultrasound scan this afternoon and after being prodded for a very long time, I was mistreated by their staff. I will be making an official complaint as well. I don’t trust the measurements they took of my baby and they’ve lost my respect due to how they treated me towards the end of the appointment. Another issue I have with this hospital is the smoking area right next to the entrance. Pregnant and sick people use that entrance every day smelling cigarette smoke each time.

Today I went for a blood test. In and out in 15 mins. Very well organised. Covid safe. This is also the hospital where I gave birth to my son (9 years ago!) and where I had my appendix removed. Each time the staff were wonderful, professional and caring. All the love for our wonderful NHS. May the Tories fail in their plan to destroy it.

The building is ugly, on a hill, you get lost in it but the staff are absolutely fantastic! Although A&E was the usual wait, the level of care and the day after (a Sunday) was great. Specialist stitching was needed and extra care was given beyond that to other injuries that gave us so much confidence that the healing process was on the best path. It was great to see so much training too.

I went for a blood test on Friday 22 December. The nurse told me in a small talk that she is having Covid right now and 7 nurses are already off-sick, so they are extremely short of staff. 4-5 of them have to take the whole amount of patients. She was saying it when the needle was already in my arm and I was too late to get out of there. It’s Monday now and I’m positive for Covid. I have a massive headache, high 40 degrees temperature and I’m completely sick. This is absolutely unacceptable!

My wife was in the emergency department, and i came after her,i was so worry for her situation, i asked the receptionist lady ,if can go inside or not,(very simple question, the answer must be yes, or no) and she asked me millions of question about my wife and i answered at the end she said me no.I do not have problem to wait outside. If it s rule i m happy to follow. But why she s asking me lots of questions and then say me no.It s very rude.

I had a blood test last week. When I contacted my GP, they advised me to contact to Royal Free Hospital reason being my GP doesnt get results straight away from them. I called the hospital on 21th of this month around 2:30pm. One of the receptionist answered the phone. I tried to explain why I am calling. However, she asked a few consecutive questions and didn’t let me talk. When I asked her nicely to listen to me and understand my situation she shut the phone on my face. I called them back straight away. Same lady picked the phone and pretended like the rude person wasn’t her. It was a clever trick. After I called them second time she was polite and we sorted the problem out. I would advise them to learn how to behave a human and then do whatever job they do.

The cancer unit are absolutely appalling. My partner has had so many appointments cancelled and now 1hr 30 mins before her biopsy on her breast, which she was informed was high risk, a lady has called informing her the biopsy is cancelled as they did not have the correct staff to carry out this important procedure. My partner is now in tears and has been told to report for an appointment on Friday. I have all her appointment letters and will be taking this further and also reporting this to the papers. APPALLING, given 1 star only so I can post this but definitely not worth that star!!!!

Really friendly and efficient service. Granted, it took 3.5h to be out again but my problem wasn't exactly life threatening and involved various x-rays and waiting to see the nurse three times. Everybody was really friendly, got treatment I needed, hospital is clean and modern. Long life the NHS.

I had a very negative experience when having a blood test today at the Royal Free hospital. I am a disabled patient in a wheelchair, the staff member that took my blood test, was extremely rude and had no customer care. The staff member did not carry out a risk assessment of the wheelchair and left me at the edge of the cubicle with the curtain half opened and was very rude to my daughter. Also when queueing up to have the blood test it is extremely confusing for patients that have appointments and for patient that are emergency walkins they all have to queue in the same queue and this it is not clearly communicated to patients which can cause conflict in the queue between patients. It would be really positive if the patient experience team could observe this area and work with the team to engaged with the staff to improve communication and reasonable adjustments for patients with disabilities.

Fell from stairs. And I suffered of head injury with open wound and big laceration. The ambulance did not show up so had to call a cab.. but the hospital was amazing. For how much short of staff they are. They all are doing their best. Wanna say out loud the name of a wonderful doctor.. Hillary Connor. Hope I spelled it right. She was like a mom for me. Was great.. from her way of communicating and taking care of me!! Hope she will get the recognition for all her hard work. Thanks for everything today

Years ago I've had a surgery and I can highly recommend Royal Free Hospital team! I was very nervous about the surgery and the anaesthetist, this was my first surgery. I was so afraid that I will not wake up or some horrible thing will happen but the doctor was so nice, he talked to me very patiently and calm, he assured me that everything will be fine and he explained everything about my surgery, the steps and that it will take around 30 minutes so nothing to worry about. I remember that they gently asked me before the surgery that can the anaesthetist come? And I nodded yes but silently cried a bit as I saw that the liquid is coming into my vein. I was terrified but everyone was so nice and smiling and I woke up suddenly and I didn't even open my eyes yet but the kind nurse realized that I'm awake now and she quickly told me with calming nice voice that '"Oh, you are awake!" and she was sitting next to me. They brought me to a room where people were after surgeries and my husband was waiting there and they gave me a very delicious sandwich and a yogurt. And after around 10 minutes the doctor came and explained that everything went well and what I will need to do with the wound and what we need to keep an eye of. I was so happy and all the team were so nice, smiling, patient, respectful and professional. I highly recommend Royal Free Hospital to everyone! This wasn't my first great experience with this hospital, but my first surgery. Sorry if I write the names wrong but it was a long time ago, I would like to thank you to Senewiatra Ramaswani, Hammad and Miss Bosch!

First of all someone from 111 sending me quick private car and taken me in hospital and I really appreciate your help then I was a patient RF,royal free hospital last night arrive 15/08/2023around 1:00pm at night with lots of different pain/ the reception very dry typical lady which I saw when I arrived and wasn’t even look like want to lesson to me and I can describe it as mature black lady I think with glasses then door Then I wait in other waiting area which the shutter was close then and sat there for long time then British lady comes up to me and said I need to go back there again to sight in and all that time I was feeling sick and just want it to be checked out and even I seen another black lady from receptionist again then I felt again that she wasn’t to keen to lessen my need, Please would be great if you can give this receptionist a little train or give someone else a job there who’s willing to help and lessons to patient need, The lady Asian doctor I saw very great lady and lesson to me well, The lady took my blood super perfectly lady as even I have phobia with taking my blood and don’t really do it but she convinced me and done her job perfectly ❤️ Only the small problem was I couldn’t get my prescription by then and been told to come back there again and after I explain that this place quit far and not well to travel around she agreed to send it to my local doctor which I seen today but unfortunately my doctor said never received any prescriptions and I’m in pain but hopefully will get it soon. Thank you for all hard worker NHS doctors which there to help 🩷

Manjinder the Micromanager, if I could give a minus 1 for working with Manjinder I would. For the entirety of my 6 months of working at The Royal Free Charity (RFC), Manjinder bullied and micro managed me. As a result I had to leave, in my opinion she is not mentally fit to work in any team. She was an expert at playing mind games, she always wanted control or to control YOU. If this did not happen, she would get into a state of rage and would proceed to play mind games. My experience of working at RFC was horrific due to her micro managing behaviour, on my last day of working at the RFC Manjinder pulled me into a room and proceeded to tell me my work was no good. On a separate occasion, I notified RFC about 2 or 3 weeks into my contract starting, I was dyslexic. Manjinders response was, you can actually be dismissed for notifying us in the first instance. She discriminates against those who are at a disadvantage in society and at the charity, she is not fit to work for a Charity. She does not display any signs of sympathy for anyone, and is a kingpin at controlling and driving anyone she does not like out of RFC. To say the RFC is Disability Confident, is untrue, due to Manjinders actions. She does not support anyone with any kind of disability or mental health illness. She does not support development or anything she cannot control. On a lighter note. The people are absolutely amazing (especially the communications team) they were a joy to work, genuinely loved working with them. Other members in my team were absolutely amazing. I left due to Manjinder relentlessly displaying serious signs of Narcissism, she would call me all the time and ask where I was (although I would call back within 1 mins of missing her call). Control is her purpose without it, she gets into a state of rage. I was constantly anxious and left feeling drained. Towards the end, I could not sleep or eat properly, ultimately, I left feeling scared and terrified. Manjinder harassed me whilst I worked for the RFC. After I had left the RFC, Manjinder proceeded to harass me and accused me of locking a phone on purpose. She then put a letter together and said she was going to take £100 from my wages, when she had not emailed to notify she was trying to gain access to the work phone I was given. She did not follow process to try and contact me. RFC should investigate Manjinders behaviour. It is only now after almost a year I fully recovered from Manjinders behaviour towards to speak up. I would not recommend anyone work in the HR department at the RFC, it is not safe! She is extremely clever at putting on a persona so that other assume she is fine. Hopefully, this does not happen to anyone else. Just someone is knowledgeable, does not give them the right harass and bully you. I can now say, her behaviour was not OK.

I feel sorry for the dedicated people who work at this hospital - the problem lies with those who are just there to do a "job". The role of the "nurse" in traditional medical care was one that earned a lot of respect in British society. Nurse Blessing on Ward 7 North seems, single-handedly, to be setting-out to destroy that reputation - she clearly has no prior nursing experience, or is learning the job as she goes along... And there are others at this hospital who give the same impression. Alarming and Disgraceful is how I would describe this hospital !!!

I am very happy with this hospital. I am a patient in Breast clinic and always been seen by a doctor including lockdown period. When during lockdown something worrying showed on my mammogram immediately I was called for investigation. Had all tests and scans to check what is happening. Very professional staff and I know I can rely on them.

This is a very good hospital, but the blood test department is a mess. It is so busy yet they do not have enough space for patients to wait. The spacing for Covid is non existent in the waiting area with so many people wanting to book in. The staff try to help but are a bit Curt. Covid is going no where, so redesign the waiting area or it is a breeding ground for viruses to spread.

I was very anxious because I’ve never been in this hospital before. I had a PCR test before, they were nice and professional. Today I’ve met a wonderful team who performed an endoscopy. I would like to thank all of them to take good care of me. Very caring and professional team including the gastroenterologist lady❤️ After that I had the weirdest blood test in my life. First of all in bay 9 the guy was having a party, singing with the radio he had on. After my long morning I asked him to have this done as quickly as possible. But he continued extend the time with me which obviously made the whole experience unpleasant I’ve never been asked by my personal life nor about my preference in men. I also found the question absurd if I am rich or I am looking for a rich partner. My other half were sitting outside but I wish he’d come inside with me bc this humiliating situation would’ve not happened.

The medical care is excellent. However their administration for outpatient appointments has become increasing shoddy. They notify changes of appointment by letter which of course don't turn up. Then having told me that the next appointment would be by telephone rather than face-to-face due to their mix up, they fail to call . When I call two hours after the due time to follow up, they have marked me down as a no -show. Unacceptable.

Words are not enough how I’m grateful for visiting you. My Lead Clinician Deborah gives me the strength to overcome stress and fear, to solve health problems, to regain trust in people. It helps me to forget the traumas of life and be able to live a healthy and quiet life. She is professional, very careful, attentive and understanding. Sorry, for all my stressful visits. I’m so grateful for you. Love Tea

I probably had my most thorough check-up ever here. The consultant was very professional, friendly, informative and (no pun) patient. Two junior doctors saw me first and were also completely professional and thorough. So: 4 stars. There would be 5, but the staff who saw me before and after the doctors were unpleasant. They barked out orders and one of them misread my blood pressure. I was told "Your blood pressure is high!" Then the right reading was taken, with no apology for the error. The other one just "processed" me during a blood test and hardly spoke. There was no evidence that those two were working under stress. Fortunately the doctors are the ones who really matter.

Very poor from start to finish. Departments are never available via the phones, voicemails are never answered or calls returned, emails are ignored. The switchboard routinely puts calls through to the wrong numbers, or transfer me to the same voicemails I ask them not to put me through to. The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is never available and hasn't answered several emails over the last few months. The one call I did get was from an arrogant consultant surgeon. I was on another (work) call when he rang so I asked when was a good time to call him back, and he answered "never". I pointed out that, as a taxpayer, I funded his salary and generous pension so he eventually agreed he'd call me back at a set time. That call never came. CQC rates this hospital as needing improvement. I think they are being generous.

Was bitten by a random dog (very minor) but advised to go to urgent treatment by a 111 doctor for a tetanus jab and maybe some antibiotics. Attended and was in an out in two hours despite high demand. I got my jab and antibiotics from a lovely doctor. The nurse who triaged me also reassured me immediately that it did not look infected (which was my concern). Great services and compassion shown despite presenting with a very minor issue! I've had appalling treatment from my local hospital so skipped attending there. The extra bus ride was very much worth it. Thank you Royal Free. Definitely have some low level anxiety around hospitals due to previous experiences but felt so comfortable today.

Absolute nightmare!! Came into A&E on a Tuesday night and though they stated 1 hour wait time, I was seen by a nurse after about 2½ hours, and that's just to check vitals. Then I'm told bloods need to be taken and it'll take about 5 hours to see a doctor. When I arrived at the next department, the wait time stated 7½ hours! Nurse tells me that the hospital doesn't have space for patients because they don't discharge the patients that don't need to be there, so unless you want to spend what feels like days here, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I could not be more grateful. The medical and non medical staff has been thoughtful, patient, kind and I have been really taken care of (despite how busy they were). I feel so privileged because there is no privilege here: whoever you are, whatever your social background is, you have access to very good health care.

Me and my 76 year old mum had blood tests at Royal Free Hospital about a month ago as we live in Dagenham and could not find anywhere an open or bookable Blood Test Center. A month later and no results sent to our GP. The contempt for human life by such a laid back attitude from NHS and particularly from Royal Free Hospital is plainly disgusting. They do not have any email to contact them for any problems. We need those results as maybe our lives could be in danger from a progressing disease. We don't matter for them. We are just the sheeps which are paying their salaries with our taxes, yet we became their mockery. Outrageous services! Never clap for NHS again!

If you are planning to drive to the Royal Free for any reason, unless you are picking up there and then (not waiting) or have a disabled badge, you cannot park there. Most of the parking in the area is residents only which operates until 6.30pm - may vary further away. I drove around for 30 minutes and found only one street (Fleet Road) close by with paid parking (Ringo) about 5p a minute.

On the downside the M&S breakfast / Cafe is pretty disgusting (dirty tables and overpriced soggy inedible sandwiches). #royalfreehospital.

Negligence on an unprecedented scale. People aren't getting the help they deserve anymore. It just seems like year after year everything is getting worse. An entire system of methods is now in place that make it look like you're getting help, when it's all a trick. Sometimes they send you home when you're still sick. There is so much more that can easily be done. I'm not taking it anymore. Neither should you...everyone speak up! Shape the future. Shape your future! Demand a better world. Do it today!

This magnificent, comprehensive hospital, Pond Street, Hampstead, pretty much caters for all your health needs. Any hospital that works under the restraint and budget cuts to our National Health Service should be applauded. I have witnessed first hand, how hard the nurse's and paricularly the care workers work to look after patients and make them as comfortable as possible. Today, in orthopaedics, I was seen by an excellent, caring consultant who had a very sympathetic manner. He also shook my hand and introduced himself before starting my consultation. The hospital has lots of signs to help you find your department, plus 'helpers' (at the front entrance) who, if they see you looking unsure or lost, will help send you in the right direction. The porters are friendly and introduce themselves to patients needing their assistance. To the handful of people, who have only given this hospital one star, you need to look at and consider the outstanding service you are given free of charge. This hospital can be reached by several bus services ( C11, 168, 46) and Hampstead Heath overground trains. There is a great cafe / health shop, right by the entrance and further cafes inside. All departments accessible by lifts. Five big healthy stars. ?????

I was the only one from there with children after me.. and only I waited so long so long time to give only 2 signatures..when I asked them Why they are keeping me so Long time only for 2 signatures.. they didn’t know what to tell me. Two days ago I was to A& E pregnant and bleeding heavy. Nurse from A&E took me very quickly.. and she send me to 5th floor for a scan and to see me a doctor. I was there at 11am with 2 children’s after Me.They took me to scan only at 4 pm because I didn’t had appointment And priorities has the women with appointment. Don't know about the entire hospital, but day surgery on 3rd floor is shocking. I had both breast surgery due to cancer, which is very distressing itself, ward was cold, messy, loud, no beds for patients, everyone waits in the general waiting area, they drag you around, first surgeon asks questions, then anaesthetist asks you questions, then you speak to nurse in a different room who asks more questions, then you go into grubby and cold changing room , and on top of all that you wait for at least 5 hours.

I know we tend to write a review when angry or disappointed so often low scores, but I am pretty angry right now. Without going into the catalogue of errors which have followed one after another at this hospital, including rupturing my daughters spleen and almost killing her, then saying to 'put her on the ward until next morning' as she was dying in front of my eyes, all as the result of a supposedly 'safe, low risk' operation, my daughter, Alice, who is now minus a spleen and has had two nephrectomies and a kidney transplant, plus has pancreas problems as well as other, went to A&E last night 21/1/20 since her pancreas has been causing her great pain for some days. She has also been sick and unable to keep fluids down. Also due to ongoing iron/haemoglobin problems she is so tired she barely stays awake. The past few days have been pretty bad for her. Our main concern was that of dehydration as we know her new kidney likes lots of water to function well. The nurses told my daughter that it was hard to find a vein as she was so dehyrdrated. BUT the renal Dr on call this night would not give her fluids and was pretty dismissive of all legitimate concerns. His response when trying to explain problems was 'Yes, I've read your notes', I guess reading some notes makes him god then? He even told her that she was sleeping due to pain medication. Laughable as she is taking far less these days than she has in the past, and yet she still never slept like this before EVER! His idea of examining her kidney/stomach area was to simply place his hand on the middle of her stomach OVER her pyjamas and dressing gown. Something she had never heard or seen of before. Quite bizarre! Due to his unique idea of an 'examination' he missed seeing that her hernia had turned purple, spotted by her GP 2 days later who showed great concern. Had the Renal Dr spotted it this it may have explained some of the raised markers in my daughters blood and possibly her sickness. He actually suggested she took more anti sickness pills in the day without even establishing the cause of her sickness. I am a lay person, but can some-one explain the sense in this? He then booked her for a kidney scan despite the pain being in and radiating through her back where she has known pancreas problems, most likely cysts. Again, since I am a lay person, can some-one explain the logic? Her kidney function has dropped to 30% as it does when she is dehydrated but he would give her no fluids knowing she cannot keep water down. Again, as a lay person, can some-one explain this to me please? Are cuts so bad now that the Drs are directed from above not to give fluids when necessary? If this is the case, should they even be Dr's? So my daughter is still very sick and struggling to stay awake and still can't keep any fluids down. Her visit to A&E solved nothing! Dehyrdration is dangerous to anyone, especially those with compromised health. If saving money means letting people die for the sake of the cost of a bag of fluid, then humanity in the UK is over! This is not the 1st time. She was given fluids once before when another Dr came and stopped it. What is the point of giving some-one a kidney transplant if you are going to let it fail after all that for the sake of a bag of fluids? I am fuming and had enough now! A human is a complete organic being, you may specialise in one field, such as the kidneys, but if you see an organ disconnected from the rest of the body, you aren't seeing life at all! We, the supposed ignorant and unworthy have had enough. As a mother , my daughters life is every bit as valuable as yours. Status, kudos, education, are attainable to everyone under the right circumstances, Do not misjudge, belittle nor underestimate humanity. As that is when you will lose yours. And we know what this is about. Destroy to create. In this case to create a private system. If you stand by and allow this, you have blood on your hands. We have already seen it in mental health. Makes me ask, why do Drs wish to become Drs anymore? £££ss?????

Extremely disappointed with the early pregnancy and gynae unit… staff lack compassion and the inability to deliver sensitive information with empathy. I am in the medical profession myself and I purposely did not disclose any of this to them to see how they would treat me. It was disgusting After going for my first scan - the Nurse laughed and said your fibroids are bigger than your baby… what is funny about that. This was my first pregnancy and No one asked what do I know so far and provided any education . Dr Google was my best friend… the Nurses do not look like they enjoy their jobs and often looking stressed out or apathetic …, this really needs to be looked at. If you want to improve work on compassion which the Nurses are lacking if they don’t like their jobs they would not make an effort and they should also leave

I been to the children’s department in A&E ,it was the most bad experience there , my 2 years old child was treated in racist way, and I felt insulted, so I asked to get him out of the hospital to move him to another hospital and I was shocked by the report written by the doctor, She accuses a two-year-old child of violence and said that I was very angry with her ،really this did not happen. I spoke to them very politely and calmly inside the department, but when I went out and read her report, I came back angry to the security man to explain what happened, no one will accept to be treated His child by this way, they have no experience how to treat a very active child . I regret that I been there , I never will back there again . Shame on that doctor she should to be honest and the nurses .

I took my daughter to A&E on Friday, and our experience there was excellent. From the receptionist to the doctor. Everyone was helpful and kind. We arrived at 8pm and left at 11.30pm. The doctor explained everything well. We had already been to another hospital on Monday and again on Tuesday. The experience we had was horrible, this was Northwick Park Hospital and we left with no explanation to why my daughter had pains. The pains got worse to the point that she couldn't walk properly, so a friend of mine recommended the Royal Free, and I'm so glad we went. Thank you again for all your help.

Been to A&E sent by 111 services. Although it took about 20 mins to be checked in at the door, and another 15 or so to be seen by the first nurse, then everything went really smoothly. Been seen by nurse, then doctor, then ECG, then bloods and Covid test, X ray and another nurse awaited with the IV drip ready as soon as I got out from the X ray. The doctor and the nurses were very very kind and helpful with any question / requirements I had, very professional. All the results came together within an hour and then waited for the doctor just a few minutes to explain the diagnostic and to be discharged once the IV was finished and canulla removed. The doctor couldn't stress enough they were there to help and I should have come earlier and to not ever hesitate again, come straight away. Extremely pleased this time around.

Shockingly bad. Embarrassingly terrible service. Clueless, rude staff (one of which was barely understandable). Insanely long wait time. Zero care or urgency from medical staff; arrogant, untrained security; disorganised, dirty facilities. Someone needs to explain to these people what "emergency" means. I will add, however, that after finally being seen, the doctor was superb. Excellent doctor being let down by other members of the team and the system.

Received very good care in ER, each clinician was very professional and knowledgeable. Everyone was calm and giving best care to all people waiting. Although person in reception seemed annoyed and extremely slow.

Had operation 2/2/22 on my ear done by Dr Sabbagh and his team. From the referral to Dr Sabbagh to the actual operation was only three weeks and has hopefully solved a long term problem. Thanks to ALL of his team down to the nurses on the ward for their work. TP

I had my leg plastered today, by an absolute legend (I think his name was John and his lovely assistant!) Dispite the fact I was in pain he was laughing and joking with me all the way through it. Such a super lovely guy! Loving my purple glittery cast! Thank you 👍🏽 Royal free would it be possible to have some wheel chairs by the main entrance?? , getting to the plaster unit was a nightmare!!

Emergency Dept just left me on a trolley shivering for hours with blood dripping from a head wound. I would understand if it was busy but there were only 2 patients in there. I asked for a blanket. Response: “We don’t have any.” I knew I needed glueing when I arrived. It took 4hrs to achieve. Staff standing around chatting. Why so cruel?

Royal Free Hospital is the best. I'm from Ukraine, they saved my life. What I thought was impossible here for Ukrainian visitors. I had a big problem with my liver due to Wilson Konovalov syndrome. I needed an emergency liver transplant, which they did to me without any problems. I am grateful to the doctors, coordinators and nurses for my life. I will never forget your faith in me. I love everyone who has been associated with me.

A depressing Hospital & the last place I would want to go if unwell. The blood test area is shockingly bad with a very rude "gentleman " on reception who just barks orders at you, no customer service skills whatsoever. I wish I could at least praise the Doctors here but during my most recent appointment..which was an hour after my appointment time (trust me,this is fast for the Royal Free)..the Doctor started texting on his phone & not looking at me as I was trying to explain a sensitive matter. I get very anxious at medical appointments & this rude behaviour made me feel deflated. I feel like an hour in this hospital adds a year to my age it is so grim. I'm sure there are good staff here, unfortunately I haven't met them.

Awful A&E experience. One star is enough for this emergency department. I have been there 5 hours and they had to take my blood test twice in 3 different points of my hand/harm and they literally killed me. The first time there was not enough blood, never heard something like that in my whole life. When I left they haven’t even took off the needle from my arm, I had to ask x that. They haven’t released neither a discharge letter with medications inside. Nurses and doctor wee terrible, without willingness to work, annoyed and incompetent. I felt very uncomfortable and treated like an object to don’t use another word. No humanity at all. Never go there.

God Bless all care workers in a very demanding job - it must be challenging maintaining a positive approach to your work.Great doctors nurses and all other staff have been brilliant with me for well over 20 years they have truly looked after me in so many ways unimaginably saved my life several times over aswell and I would say like another family to me in a way if I could but I wouldn't fault them in any way as its hard to find good bunch of people that look after us do well. Keep up the good work, even when you feel the strain!God bless you all🙏🏻grateful forever🙏

The worst emergency hospital I had been. The nurse was very rude! I waited for more than three hours with no results, so I was told to wait at least six hours! Tell me to stop asking him! Are you kidding me? Is that how you treat your emergency patients?

  • 1/5 A G. 1 year ago on Google
So disappointed, I barely use NHS and I waited in A and E for 5 hours (which is expected) however only to be told take pain killers due to my leg being numb thats 3 days ago and I haven't been able to sleep since, my world is falling apart. All the Dr did was do subtle leg movements no scan, no assessment s nothing. I've worked since 17 years old and contributed so much tax to this system, but when you need them they're not there. I feel betrayed

Exceptional RFH pharmacy staff. They are working with hours of queuing patients and they remain polite and courteous to everyone. It must be incredibly stressful as the demand for the service is so high, but they patiently explained the process to every patient and the way to take the drugs dispensed. Patients tried to queue jump and they politely redirected them. I was so impressed. The hospital is just so busy, they need a bigger pharmacy and more staff, but if that's not possible, those staff they have are doing an excellent job.

Visited RFH early morning on the 26/05/23 as my partner had been bleeding severely after a tooth extraction. In particular, I want to thank the male nurse who was working from midnight to early morning, as he went above and beyond, not just for me and my partner, but all the patients who were waiting in the hospital. He was always concerned and cared for all the patients, helping patients call other clinics, helping elderly patients with their bags, being available whenever anyone needed him. We waited around 6 hours to see the doctor, and without this nurse, it would have been 6 hours of torture, so thank you for doing an amazing job, and just know that all the patients which you help really appreciate it! I wish I had asked for his name, as he really was a genuinely good and caring person and deserves to be applauded for what he does! 10/10.

Exceptional care given to my dad in the Urology department. Made him feel very comfortable through a very anxious time. Thank you so much to the whole team that dealt with him during his procedure.

Just had my ultrasound done. The staff attended to me has no business working with sick and vulnerable people. Cold, unprofessional, waste of space. Long story short, her services were appalling, probably hate her job and herself but doesnt know when to not to take it out on her patient. Ridiculous!

It's a hospital in North London. I had to attend an eye examination. Everything was good. Not crowded. Nice helpful staff in reception. Only five minutes walk from Belsize Park station. I'm also glad to report that I didn't have to walk through a cloud of stinking cigarette smoke from the disgusting people who puff away outside the hospital entrance. They are made to stand away from the entrance. Good riddance. I look forward to the day that smoking is banned in Britain in all public places outside in the street. Sadly there are so many younger people who smoke cannabis in the street as if it's just a normal thing to do. You can't walk on a London street without getting a whiff of pungent cannabis.

First the Ambulance crew (Emma and her colleague) were helpful, pleasant and easy to talk to. They explained all the procedures they were carrying out and outcome to my husband (who was ill) and their calm professionalism put us at ease. At the Hospital, we were seen promptly. The Doctors and Nurses were excellent and highly professional especially Dr. Zhiyuan and the Nurses that attended to us. I don't often write reviews but I feel I have to do this to show my gratitude. Many thanks to all the staff members. Before I forget, the environment was cleaner too.

Most incompetent staff I have ever come across. Nurses never listen or get anything done and no one ever knows what the hell is going on. How can people with such bad personalities and attitude get jobs as nurses?! They inject you with air bubbles for fun and you can hear them make fun of patient's while giggling in the hallway. Avoid avoid avoid unless you want to play with your life.

Please for your own sake, avoid this hospital at all costs! Unless absolutely necessary. They employ some of the worst nurses and nurse assistants I've ever come across in my entire life and ive been unfortunate enough to have health issues that need constant treatments. Miserable, grumpy and definitely hate everyone and themselves. I always wondered how many deaths could have been avoided in this place if they employed real good staff that care about patients. This hospital is also complete filth, urine and stool bottles left in toilets for hours without anything anyone bothering to collect. Bins full with rubbish falling out of them, they once took 2 full hours to come and turn off the very loud beeping machine that controls IVs. I regret ever choosing this hospital for urgent care.

Very poor service no doctor in weekend’s only one doctor in hospital. Shame of this hospital in British country… it’s better to treatment in Africa’s poor villages facilities. Really this country’s medical services is very very bad go to hell of management. Ruling party also not taking interest to improving health facilities.. emergency? Emergency? Finger cut also wait for 8 hour for treatment what a service by royal free hospital. Wasting time for life in this hospital really no words if any responsible person meet me I slap swear ……..

Currently in bed for 3rd day running after I caught a nasty flu after accompanying a relative w an eye injury to A&E and we were made to wait over 5+ hours. My mum ended up with a migraine for 2 days as well. It’s completely thrown my schedule this week out. The dr who attended my relative was lovely and very experienced. The nurses were rude. Seems there are a few good eggs holding the entire broken system together. NHS really needs to do better, we do pay taxes for this service so it’s not good that the system is making us more sick. No healthy food in the vending machine despite advertising as such.

Fantastic hospital, friendly doctors and nurses cannot fault the service these amazing people provide. But I have given them one star because this hospital associate them selfs with parking eye, who are known crooks that will steal from anyone with no remorse for anyone even the hard working nhs staff, for that they deserve a 1 star in the hope this creates awareness and other’s follow suit and hopefully Royal free stop using parking eye on there hospital grounds! I will happily change this review to 5 stars

Had an appointment earlier for a scan and all the staff were so lovely and supportive making sure that I was comfortable and feeling okay throughout the whole process. Just want to thank the staff that was working today for helping me stay calm in a worrying situation, I really appreciated it. All the rooms, waiting rooms and equipment were super clean as well.

I arrived early morning in ER , 8am Tuesday 10th October and I have to say the staff, the nurses, the EDAs and Dr were so efficient and pleasant . In the space of an hour they had put in a line, scanned me and started me on treatment . It’s a difficult time to be in the front line and we should be really proud of them.

Awful experience! If I could go back I would never give birth there! A lot of nice nurses but rude once also there . The last thing you wanna hear is “Put the socks to your wife cause my hands are hurting “ “No you don’t have a contractions”(when you have) and the doctor the next day confirmed that I had contractions at that time cause I was on 4cm. Already. “You have to pee by that time otherwise we gonna put the catheter back and you not gonna like it” “You risk to give a still birth if you won’t agree on induction “ “You may not have anymore kids” “If we don’t take the baby fast out he may die and we won’t be able to wake him up anymore. “Sign this papers so we are not responsible if something happens on you or your baby” “Did you pee on me” Thanks Royal Free for the massive trauma you caused me. I was afraid of birth now I am terrified!

I recently had an outpatient appointment with the neurology department and had a very positive experience. The consultant I saw, Dr Rebecca Lui, was fantastic. She really listened to me and was very thorough with her questions/assessments. Her manner was professional but friendly. I received my summary letter very quickly afterwards. The nurses and receptionist were also very friendly. Overall, an excellent experience that continues to make me so proud of the NHS - the people who work for the NHS are superb.

I was with my 3-year-old son in the emergency. It's terrible how you go to see the doctor and there you only have one doctor for the entire children's department. I waited there for 7 hours until 4 in the morning and the doctor did not give the child anything. He was busy sleeping there and when he woke up after 30-40 minutes, he was called by a child for a visit. The nurses only talk on the phone, when you go and ask how long they will wait, they talk on the phone and when we finish the private calls, they answer. I don't know why this country invests, where the most important thing is the health service, I don't know what it has. This is how it is when it is governed by a prime minister who has caught the disease of immigration and not what I should do for this country. Too bad in GP you can't get an appointment because they always say there is no room or make a consultation by phone. My son still with hay fever 🤒 and with you go in hospital is nothing . You lose your time there and the doctor is very busy to sleep 😴. Shame for this 🤮🤮😰😰

Thank you to the A&E department for looking after me in every way possible. Special thanks to Dr Samira, you were informative, caring and always smiling. Thank you to everyone who has worked that shift !! This is to the other reviewers who complained about materials, waiting time and all the other nonsenses. A hospital is a place that saves human life’s, it’s not a restaurant nor a hotel. Be grateful!!

Had to attend the Royal Free in Hampstead after 17 years.. in that time the facilities have deteriorated significantly, cleanliness being an issue in the treatment areas (afternoon time so assuming constant use) however I give top marks (5*)to the people and team that looked after me. Both Giovanni (charge nurse) and Dr. Kai have impeccable bedside manners and a professional but friendly approach with patients. Big shout out to the lovely lady at reception for being cheerful and professional during a long day!
