Joking and exploiting costumers in difficulty. My girlfriend subscribed 4 months ago, while starting university. In the first period she attended regularly, but unfortunately because of her financial situation she cannot afford to go to this gym anymore. She is paying full universities fees as overseas, and she couldn't find a job to afford this not-necessary expenses. This company should be mentioned as poor example of costumer service. My girlfriend tried in any possible way to stop her subscription, saying that unfortunately she really cannot afford it. They are keeping charging her monthly, and once per month they copy paste the same answer saying that she needs to demonstrate that she lost her job. Which job? They are basically taking her the money she needs to eat. Are these people really caring about costumers? She feels so mortified by them that she even stop using the service. A complete disaster, shame on Bannatyne!

If I could rate zero, I would rate ZERO to this gym. There was a physical assault that happened to my partner against another gym member. Initially, we already reported this gym member due to his behaviour and the management completely ignored our verbal report. When the gym member initiated the physical assault against my partner, we called the police. Unfortunately, the CCTVs were only for DISPLAY and not actually working nor recording. We informed the management of our disappointment, and there was no response regarding the situation at all. What has happened had greatly affected our mental health and our confidence in our safety in that gym. We never returned there again. Do not ever subscribe to this gym, it’s small and crowded. Pools are also are not cleaned regularly, there were lots of dirt at the bottom of the pool. Apart from that, Staff are also in a relationship with each other and display too much in the gym area, very unprofessional in their place of work.

I wouldn't recommend this gym especially if you like going to classes. During my time as a member, classes would often be cancelled without explanation or because there "wasn't an instructor around". The gym is small and expensive for what is on offer. The staff are friendly but service doesn't match the high price. There are way better (and cheaper!) gyms in the area that offer a higher quality of service.

I was a member of Bannatyne for a year and never had any trouble using the gym, which offered everything I needed – though the classes were of varying quality. The reason for the poor rating, however, is the maddening process I had to go through to cancel my membership when I moved away from the area. Three days before moving, I went into the gym in person and closed down my membership. I was told it was all done and that once the 12 months I had signed up for had come to an end (ca 8 weeks later), I would no longer be charged. I was also told that I may qualify for early cancellation (i.e. before the end of my contract) if I could demonstrate that there would be no Bannatyne within a 15 mile radius of my new address. Over the next month or so, I called the office three times to enquire about this, but was always told to call back later as the person I would need to speak to wasn't in. In the end, I gave up and resigned myself to the idea that I would have to pay for the last two months. Imagine my surprise when I then discovered that Bannatyne had continued charging me past the end date of my contract! When I called to rectify this, I was told they didn't have a completed cancellation form on file, so the membership hadn't been cancelled. This was the first I heard of such a form, despite coming in to cancel in person and subsequently calling the office three times. As I've been trying to rectify this, Bannatyne has been neither clear nor forthcoming at all, and it has left me very frustrated. They have refused to refund the £44 they charged after the end of my contract. Can't believe the lack of customer service!

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT. Only interest they have on you is your money. They play you with cancellation. Every day different person comes forward acting as deputy manager. Most of the time dirty premises. They close pool unnecessarily and sauna to save money. If they had zero star I would prefer to chose that one. Every day getting worse and worse. You sign a contract for a fixed amount and you will receive emails on regular basis to notify you they increased your fee. Due to technical errors they say, direct debits duplicates. You have to wait for your own money a month to get it back if you are not aware you can request indemnity form with your bank. Awful experience.

Good everyday gym, swimming pool and SPA with 2 Jacuzzi's! Very friendly staff and wide variety classes! My favourite is Zumba, Body Pump, Pilates, Body Combat! They have excellent personal trainers! It's worth a try!

This is often disappointing compared to other fitness clubs. There are problems with the management of the cleanliness of the facilities. The showers work poorly and many people enter the pool without rinsing themselves or go directly from the sauna to the pool. Drinking water is not pleasantly cold. However, the minimum facilities are adequate. There is no Jacuzzi, many lockers in the changing rooms are broken and sometimes there is a strange smell in the shower rooms.

I have joined Bannatyne Maida Vale 3 months ago and I am very happy with it. The gym has everything I need to excersice. There is a big room of free weight, and also a lot of tread mills and bicycles. They have a lot of different and very good classes with nice and professional teachers. All the staff is very nice and also the people that trains here. I usually go during the morning and the gym is never full, so you can use all the equipment you want. They have renovated the dressing rooms and are very good now. I definitely recommend this gym!

The staff are really nice and I really like this gym in general. The free weights equipment is ok. Not the best but it's enough. The main issue in the gym for me is that the pool is full of sand and grit on one side. There's a lot of it. It's been there since I joined about 3 months ago. The male changing room *showers* also smell pretty bad - like the pipes have a lot of stale water. Overall would definitely recommend.

Terrible customer service, avoid! Plenty better gyms in area this one is not worth your time. Bannatyne Gym in Maida Vale is possibly the worst gym I’ve used in London and the uk. Facilities are also lacking in free weights and the quality for the money is felt with the underwhelming gym as soon as you enter. It feels too small and lacking in equipment.

Well I recently joined, but I haven't checked the gym before going there. The staff are friendly but I think they should have like an introductory session as I had to discover things on my own. The gym is quite divided into multiple small parts but I think all the machines you would are available. The times for opening and closing are bit tight as 9 pm doesn't allow me to go on working days but all in all its good for the price and recommended

The manager Shane is completely unprofessional and bad mannered. The rest of the staff and facilities are very good. It’s just unfortunate that he works there. The previous manager was much more friendly and helpful towards members.

The gym is very dirty. I could barely fit in the shower. The only good thing is the gym was very quite when I went so I could use any equipment. I personally wouldn’t go there again.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I joined this place and said to them that I will be away for the month of October and that if they could cancel that month for me, which they did and even gave me a receipt. They deducted £60 from me for Oct and I’ve been emailing them for 2 WEEKS yet I get the same reply from Alvin (marketing manager) and the rest of the team stating someone will get back to me. They only care about your money - avoid this place at all cost. Disgraceful.

I just joined but so far things have been great. All the staff have been friendly and helpful, place is small but everything you need is there. The classes are great and instructors knowledgable and motivating. Pool is small but if I need to swim lengths I'll just do 2 instead of 1. There are all the required machines including a rowing machine etc.. though some music would be nice on the gym floor for when I'm not on a treadmill etc.. Love the wristband log in and locker use but would welcome a locker refurbishment as they are the most dated part of the health club. All in all I am very pleased with my membership so far and look forward to being a regular user here.

Don't bother, I tried twice to join this gym. My boyfriend has been a member for many years purely for the convenient location. I thought I would try it out so came along with him... I didn't want to pay the £15 for a trial if I was going to also pay the £20 joining fee(which isn't by any means negotiable, after having asked the first time I went around) but there was no manager on site to authorise this, after having waited aimlessly for 20minutes(for his return)I gave up and left! Zero flexibility or customer service so I'll be going elsewhere... You are clearly not in need of new members!!!! How you still in business I don't know.

Excellent value for money small private gym has everything anyone would want including swimming pool steam room n sauna to relax in after your workout, really friendly staff, but for some who don't have the patience or know how to share equipment or only workout at busy times, small means - you gotta learn how to share or avoid busy times! And huge range of shops &restaurants n bars in high street.

Good facilities. Management needs to invest in abdominal gym equipment please. The clientele have gone down hill after COVID, possibly due to reduced price club packages. Generally good experiences apart for a few odd- bods that think it's ok to perve on women in the steam room. Members should be reminded of club etiquette especially the male members in their interactions with the opposite sex inside confined spaces.

we went here on Friday as our local gym at Chingford had closed their pool. We are keen swimmers and we were quite surprised how small the pool was. Only 8 strokes end to end. Not really ideal for us. Convenient for what we needed at the time but I doubt we'll go back.

I was not satisfied with this club at all. I used this club only 4 times. But they forced me to pay for two months. Even though I had asked them to cancel my membership a month ago. And in the beginning, they did not give any explanation about the cancellation. It is too small and busy.

Didn’t realise how awful this gym actually was until I joined another one for similar price. Small studio for classes, poor communication when classes get cancelled, dark swimming pool, water fountain in ladies was almost always broken and just not a great gym at all.

Dirty Gym and Changing area. I previously reported this to head office and heard nothing back. Also raised issues with management and again no action taken. After leaving, i'm now plagued with emails and calls on a daily basis to chase me for another months payment after giving the notice that i was advised by their staff to give. Awful Customer Service and Management.

Dirty, they clean sauna middle of the day when people are sitting. They should do it before opening. And then it would be left with harsh chemical smell which gave me allergy. And the manager was not professional, I asked if I can bring a guest he said it’s 15£. I asked receptionist next day she said first two times are free. Unprofessional management. Canceled my membership.

Surely you pay a little bit extra to be a member of the gym, but I am not disappointed as it is a way to make me go more often as a first time gym-goer/subscriber. Been a member since October, and the gym has what I need: a spa & a pool + very friendly staff who made me overcome the fear of using the different machines upstairs through the induction, I now have fun going there from 10 min to an hour time spent. I attended a class, which I really want to attend again too, - that was a big step for me but the trainer remove all the pressure I had in trying to attend (thought I was of a too low level). The swimming pool is either too relaxed & quiet or too wavy & loud close to the Aerobic classes so when I want to swim lengths in there it may be a bit awkward but it is already good to have such a feature at the closest gym to where I live.

One star for teachers! Yoga, philates teachers were so nice. Otherwise your got 0. I registered as monthly contract which is more expensive than usual. And Manager said I can cancel my membership whenever I want. So I paid more only for this. But when I noticed that I will stop my membership, they are still sending me the email for paying. Why?! And also, they didn't tell me about lately fee. But they will get your money more when you paid late. They just care about your money. Not your health or service for member:)

  • 1/5 Mirza D. 4 years ago on Google
Avoid, their customer service is even poorer than the worm filled facilities. I wanted to have a session on the 1st of Feb at their Russel Square club and asked for the membership options and never got told about the option for a day pass so I went with the monthly. I only got told by a friend afterwards that they do day passes too, which came as a surprise to me. One month later, on the 1st of March my direct debit got my membership renewed and considering that I have only used the facility once before and did not intend to use it in March at all either, I asked for a refund of the March fees I prepaid for. Haven't heard back after sending multiple emails. Later when calling the head office they told me that even though I have only used the facility once over 5 weeks and that they never informed me of the option for a day pass, they will refuse to give a refund as the T&C states I need to give a month's notice. At the end as an extra, Edwin Bance, their GM even accused me that I didn't ask the receptionist about the day pass option (which I did), despite him not knowing about how our conversation with the receptionist went. I do understand that this stands up legally, but fails on many levels of doing fair business: not telling the customer about the membership options, not replying to the refund request emails for 9 days and refusing to give a refund for a service that I prepaid for and do not intend to use. Stay away from these facilities, a poorly equipped gym without hot water and worms in the showers is not worth the hassle.

I like what Bannatyne stands for in charity, but when you don't pay the gym fees they bring sarcastic solicitors and to many legal problems your way. For a gym that's not worth it at all, the ladies lockers and changing areas are dirty and it's not all that luxurious, parking is a nightmare and very expensive. I may try David Lloyd.

I was staying at the Marriott and I had to go with my son to the pool because they don't allow kids under 18 to swim without a go parent or guardian. Seriously folks? It's safer in a weight room for a 12 year old then the pool? The "kid" is an open water certified diver so clearly he knows how to be safe in a mere pool. That aside, weight room was adequate for free weights. The rest is machines and cardio. Given the countries obsession w carbs and clean proteins being unheard of, cardio would be a must to stay under obese.

The staff and gym members are really friendly and the classes are good. Monday 4th March, I supposed to try the BOXING CLASS on this gym for the first time, run late for 7mins. I apologised for running late but the instructor dismissed me straight away and told me I cannot go to the class anymore as there’s no more space for me. But I explained to him that I booked in advance. He still insisted that there’s no more room and actually give my space to someone else. He called it “+1” told me to go to the reception area. I’ve seen and experienced for the past years of being a member of Bannatyne, that most of the instructors still let the members go in as long as it’s not too late, most of them understands that almost all of the members (specially the evening class) GO TO WORK and that’s the ONLY time that they can go to the gym “That we pay every Month” The first time in years since I joined Bannatyne that an instructor actually was rude about not letting me in because I was 7mins late and while they still doing the warm up stage. I ended up in doing the next class which I think was much better instructor and good vibes. The Boxing class that I’ve notice by the door (warming up stage) before I went inside and talk to the instructor was different from the normal Bannatyne gym that I go to in Chingford. I’m still gonna choose Chingford Bannatyne gym in terms of Boxing Classes. It’s more fun and have more interaction not only from instructor to gym members but also from gym members to gym members inside the class.

Staff dont seem to understand the membership fees. They renew your contract with towel included (been a member for 13 years( later send someone else to phone you to say they will charge you £15.00 extra for a towel when the towel was already included in your renewal. When you tey to explain this to the person calling they ignore what yiu are saying! They want to make up the money they spent on refurbishment by breaking existing contracts! Not recommended

Unfortunately, this club forces customers to pay extra money. The terms of cancellation and registration are designed in such a way that it works like a trap and you cannot cancel easily and you have to pay for the contract and registration against your inner desire. They made me pay extra money even after cancelling

Read the contract, then choose a different gym. Cancellations are a nightmare, where they charge you at every step. This means you are stuck with a poorly equipped and maintained gym.
