My first time to this Southbank branch. Good food, but nothing too special. Service could be better. Came alone on a Saturday night. Outside seating was quite competitive. Had the summer evening special - Bean and barley risotto with rocket and parmesan, which was quite a unique taste. Wouldn’t recommend if you are super hungry and craving for something tasty and amazing, but would recommend if you’d always like to try something new and different :P Their baguette, however, is always good. The value for money was alright for the portion. Service could be improved though.

Amazing place for Sunday brunch. My partner and I were looking for a quick bite but ended up having a really lovely meal. We each had one of the brunch meals - less than £13 each for a pastry, boiled egg, bread, coffee, a peach Bellini, yogurt with granola, and some smoked salmon. Was absolutely delicious and such good value we will definitely be back. Interior is gorgeous and a lot bigger than it seems from the outside, so don't worry if it looks busy as you're walking past!

It used to be one of my fav place in London for 10yrs and doesnt matter which shop i visit, the quality of foods and service were 5 stars. Unfortunately, since they reopened after the Covid, the quality of foods dropped massively. Service has been extremely slow. Very disappointed. Ordered the bakers basket and this is what i received… i asked the staff and they said - since the Covid this is only what we are getting…

This place is somewhere I’ve only ever been for breakfast or lunch at, never dinner. It has a beautiful French feel with rustic bread, basic but perfect scrambled eggs, and a richness to their food that still feels healthy. We loved the options for breakfast and for lunch. The coffee is average, I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here just for coffee. Try the buttered croissants warmed up, spreading more salted French butter on it with each bite. Delicious!

Nice place. Brunch set menu very good value and tasty. One between 2 of us enough with an extra pastry and hot drink. Only disappointment was they'd run out of peach juice so no Bellini though alternatives offered. Would visit again.

Good organic stew and terrines. Friendly and helpful service but place is understaffed so service is slow. Chicken stew was hearty and carrot cake was a tad too sweet for me. Lovely fresh mint tea.

Went to have Brunch, over on SouthBank (not far from where I live) I had been to the 'Le Pain' in 'New York' a couple of times and loved it, so I was looking forward to coming here. I'm very disappointed! Now it was really busy, so I can understand it being a little slow, however.. we were sat down and they took our order after 10mins, then we waited nearly 45mins for the food. We were sat together on a shared table with plenty of room on each side, yet when the waitress finally bought the food, she almost dropped it when she came to the right hand side of my partner and when she put the first plate down, she slid one across to me instead of coming around to my left and didn't say anything. We both ordered the 'Avocado on toast with Poached egg and bacon' Somehow, the poached egg was very over cooked, while the bacon was very under cooked and the whole dish came stone cold and while it was somewhat edible, it did not taste great. The service was very slow. Not a great experience. Avoid!

I came across this little place accidentally while visiting London and wanting a coffee and cake with the family. It's actually larger than expeted with the basement tables; the theme is great! The food and drink arrived quickly and the waitress was really friendly. Hopefully by leaving a review I'll find this place again the next time I'm in London. It's a gem!

Ok food for a reasonable price but service wasn't great. We each had a coffee and a meal for £13 each which was good value but our coffees were not very hot, although they were otherwise tasty. Both of our mains were nice and good serving sizes. In terms of service we were left without menus after sitting down for around 15 minutes, and struggled to get the attention of the servers to get one. Once they took our order they delivered the wrong main for one of us. They were however quick to rectify this. On receipt of our (tepid) coffees I asked for some sugar which never materialised. They weren't particularly busy so I'm not sure why the staff were having a hard time serving us. They were all very friendly however. I wouldn't recommend this place and I wouldn't visit again due to the average food and sub-par service.

Delicious options to eat here, from breakfast to dinner. We ate here for lunch, with good gluten free and vegetarian options. Spacious and well-located. I arrived 30 mins early and was left alone to wait for my lunch date so that was nice too. Definitely recommended!

The Le Pain offers a very fast paced, and optimistic setting in the heartbeat of the Southbank. The decor is complementary to the dark, old London style 1888. Food is good, and coffee is very well made. Eccentric presentation. Overall staff can be a little calm, but they have a good rhythm of ensuring that everyone is content.

Nice cafe. Friendly staff. Nice interior design and atmosphere with cooler area downstairs, inside, to sit during hot summer days. We had a few bites. All good quality and tasty. Pastries are good, not much variety though, specially for vegans.

Got the brunch set which came w a huge variety of food: breads, smoked salmon, soft boiled egg, yoghurt and choice of 2 drinks! Got the hot chocolate and orange juice. My friend had the lunch set. Noticed a few people working w laptops, would say it's a cozy corner to chill w friends / get work done. Their tables also have hooks for your bags!

It wasn't particularly busy, yet we were sat down for over 10 minutes before our order was taken. We only ordered 2 coffees and 4 pastries, the pastries took about 10 minutes and the coffees eventually arrived about 5 minutes later. Nice food and drinks but service was terrible. I don't blame the staff but they were definitely under staffed to manage the size of the café

We had a wonderful breakfast made special by Luca who looked after us like family. I ordered the baked eggs which were delicious though the eggs yolks were over cooked and the whites raw. He came to check on us and immediately offered me another breakfast as I told him about the runny whites. He quickly sorted out for me another delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon breakfast and gave me a discount. Outstanding service and care. We will return. Coffee was excellent too. Best spot in the world for people watching. We were not hurried from our table and made to feel very welcome.

I like this place. Very relaxing with the nice staff and really good coctails, salads and pastry. Just the sticky tables are not nice.

Pleasant, healthy, speedy, busy. Reasonable prices for the location, staff efficient and effective, mostly tourists eating

  • 3/5 The R. 2 years ago on Google
I see a lot of people commenting about the prices, but as this place falls amongst the tourists traps on the south bank you can hardly expect to find ‘bargains’ here. Nice coffee, decent cakes, try the £7 hot drink and cake special.

Overview - good selection of food, interesting menu and great for warming winter food. The staff were attentive. Location is beautiful and convenient. Pricing is fair for the location. Food is good quality for the price and location. I did like it here. You will find authentic French food inside a tunnel! The food is hearty, tasty and yet also healthy but it isn't health food. I had the croque tarte and my companion had some avocado toast. The presentation of our food was flawless. The portion sizes are substantial. The flavour of my food was good and the same for my companion, we both would have rated our food around a 3/5. We went on quite a busy day and I think the staff were doing their best. They were friendly and their attentiveness was around a 3/5, we had to ask for our bill and at least one of us prefers to have these things noticed. I am usually quite happy to wait for a bill. I most liked the addition of grey salt on our table. The salt and pepper shakers added a sexy little touch of class to a sandwich place and the rustic vibe was also very much appreciated. It had great ambience. I would recommend it for a quick lunch if you are out in London or perhaps a long lunch or business meeting. While we were there there was a family having a family type lunch on a really long table which added a lovely continental atmosphere to the whole place.

I enjoyed my coffee, the atmosphere, the pleasant staff and studied the menu with interest for my next visit. Howver I was disappointed in the accounting which calculated a 10% service charge on my £7.00 bill as £0.71. That is a clear and deliberate error which should not happen.

I had one of my dates here and all went very well. This place kept us well fed, so I decided to return when I was in the area again. I have ordered a mouth watering chicken salad baguette to go to help me stroll along the river. I stated twice I did not want chicken club and that they should be careful not to make a mistake. Staff agreed as if they understood. What I got was exactly chicken club baguette. Then manager, a thin brunette woman with a bob, claimed they don't do chicken salad baguette and no apology or refund was offered to me. She was too confident for a poor customer service I received so probably she got away with a lot of bad things in her work. Eventually, they stuffed a white baguette with things which were pretty tasteless, completely ignoring the original recipe and overall presentation. Hot chocolate was so watery even though I requested a full-fat milk. They must be diluting it with plenty of water. Highly disappointing experience. £10.00 take-away food sold to me had a value of £2.00. I will never return again.

Food was good( although soup was cold, so had to hand back). They were very under staffed and the staff that were there were not observant enough to see that many were asking for assistance. Although once they did finally serve us , they were friendly. For a restaurant in this good a location, you’d expect better!

Terrible experience at this particular cafe! Worst service! Went in with a friend & ordered 2 coffees & brioche sandwich buns. Firstly, one always have to make their own way to the tables as most of the staff are either busy talking or pretending to be busy (despite going in at off peak timings - less busy afternoons). This time as well, same story, had to seat ourselves & then wait endlessly to catch the eye of the waiting staff, despite, informing them about our exact table location & expecting them to come to ours within a few mins. Having made eye contact with a particular server(lady) she chose to ignore our table & on top of that ended up serving another set of new entrants (belonged to south bank center staff) maybe were acquaintances. Waiting game still strong, had to especially go in to remind staff (who were genuinely serving) & finally we got our order. To Top it all, I received my coffee in a stained unclean cup & saucer! Highly disappointing! considering all other patrons have experienced similar service. (visited 5th Aug late afternoon)

This place is so badly run. Firstly it wasn't too busy and lots of staff hanging around talking. We showed up and no one seemed to want to show us to a table. When I got the attention of someone to seat us they were not polite at all. When we sat down it took ages to get someone to serve us even though lots of staff chatting. When ordering I decided not to get a large dish as we were now running a bit short on time because how long it has already taken . I just ordered toast and tea. Weirdly I was asked if I wanted my toast toasting??? The toast came burnt on one side and not toasted at all on the other side. It it was me I would not have served this toast but I ate it anyway but unimpressed. I am not sure if it comes with spreads but no spreads were offered with the toast or option made aware of. In past spreads did come with toast. Then just after toast arrived we were told the tea we ordered was not available so we changed to a different tea..we waited and waited and this never came . It was hard to get attention of the chatting staff to see what happened to the tea. When we did it was too late and I asked to not get the tea anymore. That also took time as the waiter had to speak to the manager. After all that we were charged for the burnt toast . This place is a real mess and needs sorting out

The bread was amazing. You can tell that they allow the dough time to prove to really get the very best flavour. Highly recommend.

Ive been here before and liked it but his time the food was awful and seemed to come straight from a too-cold fridge. Bread was like condensed chipboard. Coffee was good, and manager was gracious about the food complaints.
