Another one of those hidden London gems that has a fascinating story to tell about Pre Great Fire London - and a dainty 15th century memorial brass. The hospital courtyard and museum well worth a visit too

To stand in the oldest existing place of worship in London, regardless of your own beliefs, is a rare treat of an experience. Quaintly hidden behind the medieval walls of St Barts hospital, this is a history buff's bucket-lister. Make a donation to keep it open.

St Bartholomew the Less was church of St Bartholomew's Hospital and an Anglican parish. Now it's considered a chapel of ease, which means a church for those who cannot easily attend the main parish church. The church's interior is small and fairly simple. The interior is however surprisingly light and airy, due to the use of high lunette windows, with the ceiling forming an octagonal Gothic. Other than that, there aren;t that many interesting features. Don't go out of the way to see it unless you in the area e.g. visiting the hospital museum.

Lovely little church has a peaceful feeling as soon as you walk in. In grounds of Barts hospital. Open most of day. I always visit and stay awhile for prayer and reflection when I go to Barts. Has a book for prayer requests you can write in. It is lovely to find a church open for prayer - a rarity these days There is a donation slot in wall as you go in (not easily seen) and from what I've read church relies heavily on these so please help if you can when you visit.

Interesting to see this local church and hospital chapel with all the memorials to surgeons. Outside on the walk to St Bartholomew the Great there are various memorials to famous executions.

A small rebuilt over the centuries from its original in the mid 1500s. A chapel to the hospital of St Bartholomew from when it was a monastic endeavour. The church is the parish church to the chapel and chapel of ease to the former priory church of St Bartholomew the great. The in her plaques recall its support to the hospital through various surgeons nurses and other clinical persons and administrators. It has two war memorials in the form of stainglass windows. The east window was replaced due to war damage. It is a quiter church then its near by counterpart and has reqular Anglican services and a weekly catholic Mass. A very beautiful and simplistic church. Worthy of a visit.

A very old London church near to Smithfield market. Went there to see the Joglaresa Christmas concert. Medieval and other music played in a very atmospheric surroundings. Plenty of pubs nearby if you need refreshment.

The photo is of the nearby ST BARTHOLOMEW THE GREAT not St Bartholomew the Less! The latter is to the south, through an archway into the hospital. Note the statue of King Henry VIII above the archway: it is the only statue of this king in London. While in St Barts Hospital, don't miss the Hogarth Ceiling and the Museum.

A wonderful place of Quiet Reflection & Prayer & I have often prayed the Rosary here Infront of the wonderful stained glass image of Our Blessed Mother and the Holy Child. I haven't yet met any of the chaplains or ministry team, but I'm greatly appreciative of it being there for me in my times of need.
