Great memorial. Edith Louisa Cavell (/ˈkævəl/; 4 December 1865 – 12 October 1915) was a British nurse. She is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides without discrimination and in helping some 200 Alliedsoldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during the First World War, for which she was arrested. She was accused of treason, found guilty by a court-martial and sentenced to death. Despite international pressure for mercy, she was shot by a German firing squad. Her execution received worldwide condemnation and extensive press coverage.

A dignified memorial to a heroine of the First World War. Not a likely candidate to be pulled down soon.

Nicely done monument, which makes some of us check up who Edith Cavell was. Mostly though it gets used as some free seating

An Edith Cavell Memorial Service is held each year on October 12th and it is a morning service which usually starts around 10.30 am. Edith Cavell was a Nurse who was shot by firing squad in the First World War by the Germans. This year the Ambassador for Belgium, representative from the American Red Cross, Lord Mayor of London and Armed Forces all turned up. Go every year to remember a remarkable woman who was shot, but treated ALL soldiers whichever side they were on.

Wonderful area to sit and relax as well as to learn more about history. It is important to see more and more monuments and statues made for women and the profound part they’ve played in history and the betterment of society. Access to other attractions, as well as to the transit system and Trafalgar Square, is easy from here.

Main reason for my visit was that I read about her in Dale Carnegie book. It was on November 11, a coincidence: Yes, coz we met a veteran who appreciated paying our respect to Edith and she gifted me a poppy
